Hi, team, and welcome to today's lesson with me, Mrs Garrard.

Now today we are going to be learning about feelings.

Let me share my screen with you and we'll start our lesson.

So the first thing we're going to do today is we're going to gather some resources.

Then we're going to think about matching our feelings to different colours.

Then we'll create our feelings monsters, and then you'll get to share your creation with your family at home, and maybe even with your friends.

For this lesson, you will need your listening ears and your looking eyes.

You'll need some toilet roll tubes and glue.

You'll need some tape, some paint, some pens, and some googly eyes.

If you don't have googly eyes at home, no big deal.

You can just draw your eyes on your monsters.

Pause your video now and gather resources that you'll need for our creating later.

Come back when you're ready.

Great, now that you're back we can carry on with our lesson.

The first thing we're going to do is match our feelings to colours.

So when I feel happy, I think of the colour yellow because the sunshine, and daffodils, and fluffy ducklings are all yellow and they make me feel happy.

When I think of sad, I think of the colour blue.

I feel sad sometimes when I see it raining, and blue is the colour of tears.

You might link your feelings with different colours, and that's okay.

I'm just telling you some colours that I link my feelings to.

If you think of different colours, that's okay.

When I feel angry, I feel like an angry bull, and I associate this with the colour red.

I might like to do some stomping.

That helps me feel a little bit better when I'm feeling angry.

And sometimes when I'm feeling angry, my body feels really hot, just like a fire.

So I associate being angry with the colour red.

I associate being calm with the colour green because I think of nature, and leaves, and trees blowing in the breeze.

So I associate feeling calm with the colour green.

Hm, feeling frightened, I associate that with the colour black, like nighttime and bats.

I don't like bats.

I'm afraid of bats, and witches.

So I think of the colour black when I think of being frightened.

And when I think of the feeling love, I think of the colour pink, because that's a little bit like the pink hearts that we see and pink blossoms in the tree.

I love to see pink blossoms in springtime.

And family.

Family makes me feel the emotion love.

You might have different colours that you link with these emotions, and that's fine.

You could use those colours in your creations.

I was just giving you a few ideas about the colours that I link emotions to.

Now it's time to get ready to do our creating.

So first we'll watch the video and we'll listen carefully to the instructions that I give you.

So the first thing I'll need is my toilet roll tube.

And to make the monster shape, I'm going to use some tape to tape the top of my tube together.

Can you see how I'm trying to push the top together? Kind of makes his ears, looks like his ears at the top of his head.

So I'm pushing the top of the tube together and I'm going to put some masking tape on top.

I'm using masking tape because you can paint over the top of it.

Sellotape, the paint doesn't stick.

So I'm using masking tape.

Using my fingers to rip it into small pieces and fitting them in place.

Going to put a couple of pieces on there just to make sure it's fixed securely in place.

And because I'm feeling calm today, I'm going to paint my feelings monster green, because that's the colour I associate with feeling calm.

One more bit of tape should do it I think.

Squeeze it together.

Can you see it's made like an ear shape at the top? He has two ears.

I'm going to put my fingers in the bottom of the tube to hold it, and then paint it.

I'll hold the top.

If you don't want to get your fingers painty, you could put your fingers in the bottom of the tube so they're out of the way of the paint.

So you'll need to paint all of your tube, and then you'll have to be super patient and wait for it to dry.

Once it's dry, you can do the next part of our creating.

You'll need your googly eyes, if you have them.

and some glue to stick them in place.

If you don't have googly eyes, no big deal.

You can just draw eyes onto your creation.

You see how I'm using glue to stick his eyes on.

A little bit tricky.

And another one, 'cause we've got two eyes.

Well, sometimes monsters have more than two eyes.

If you want to give it more than two eyes, that's okay.

Now I'm going to draw some more features and give him a mouth.

Because he's feeling calm, his mouth is kind of in a neutral position.

And look, he's got two little sharp teeth, and I'm adding some little lines onto the tummy of the monster to make it look like he's furry.

And I'm giving him some really fluffy eyebrows.

Do see how I'm using zigzag motion to make the eyebrows? And there he is.

There's my green calm feelings monster.

Let me see, let me show you another picture of some more feelings monsters that I made.

I made a whole family of feelings monsters so that I can show how I'm feeling at any point in the day and any point in the week.

Because our feelings change throughout the day depending on what we're doing.

So if we're just getting ready to go to bed, we might be feeling really calm.

If something hasn't gone our way, maybe you didn't get to do something that you wanted to do, maybe you feel angry.

Our feelings change throughout the day.

So maybe you could make a whole family of feelings monsters to show how you are feeling.

Team, that's the end of our lesson today.

If you'd like to share your work with Oak National, you'll have to ask your parent or carer to share your work for you on Instagram, or Facebook, or Twitter, tagging @OakNational and #LearnwithOak.

That way, I'll get to see your creations.

Really looking forward to that.

Team, see you again soon.

Bye.
