Hi, everyone.

Welcome to your fifth lesson in this unit with me, Miss Brittain, and my top partner, Cedric.

In today's lesson we'll role play the discussion to help us deepen our understanding.

We'll start off with a nursery rhyme.

Then we're going to recap our song from yesterday and then we'll role play the discussion.

For this lesson you'll need your listening ears, your super imagination and your teddy talk partner if you have one or something different if you use that.

You can pause the video now to go and get whatever items you need.

Let's start off with our nursery rhyme, which is our version of the Hokey Cokey.

♪ You list the advantages ♪ ♪ You list the disadvantages ♪ ♪ Advantages and disadvantages ♪ ♪ You think it all about ♪ ♪ You do the discussion and you work it out ♪ ♪ That's what it's all about ♪ ♪ Whoa, whoa, the discussion ♪ ♪ Whoa, the discussion ♪ ♪ Whoa, the discussion ♪ ♪ That's what it's all about ♪ ♪ You list the ♪ ♪ You list the ♪ ♪ Advantages and disadvantages ♪ ♪ You think it all about ♪ ♪ You do the discussion and you work it out ♪ ♪ That's what it's all about ♪ ♪ Whoa, the discussion ♪ ♪ Whoa, the discussion ♪ ♪ Whoa, the discussion ♪ ♪ That's what it's all about ♪ Now it's time to role play our discussion, which means imagining you are somebody else.

I can't find Cedric, and I need him to help me if we're going to do some role play.

Can you shout him for me? Cedric, come out.

Huh, a little bit louder this time.

Ah, there you are, Cedric.

Wow, look at your red cloak.

Let me guess.

Are you going to help me by being Little Red Riding Hood? Oh, great work, Cedric.

Now when we role play, it helps us to understand our characters a little bit more, and it's going to help us understand the reason for this discussion.

Why does it matter? Well, why does the discussion matter for Little Red Riding Hood? That's right, because she doesn't want to go into the forest and she's scared.

So that's why it matters for her to get her point across.

And why does it matter for mum? Why does this question matter for mum? That's right.

Because she knows grandma's sick and she's too busy.

So she needs Little Red Riding Hood to give her a helping hand.

So that's why the discussion matters to both of them.

And by doing role play, we can understand their characters a little bit more.

So what I thought we'd do, Cedric, if you don't mind helping me is role play an argument between Little Red Riding Hood and her mum.

And since your dressed as Little Red Riding Hood, you can be her and I'll be mum.

And we're going to role play the argument that Little Blue Running Shoes would hear from the kitchen.

Are you ready? We'll do it first, children, and then you can have a go with your teddy talk partner.

Little Red Riding Hood, you need to go to your grandma's house.

But that means going through the forest and I don't want to.

What do you mean you don't want to? You're old enough now to go through that forest on your own.

But it's scary and dark and I don't like it in there.

Oh, don't be ridiculous.

As long as you stick to the path and you don't stray, and you go straight to your grandmother's house, it'll be fine.

You might get lost? Oh, you won't get lost.

Grandma is sick, and somebody's got to look after her.

I've got all the cooking and all the cleaning to do, as well as looking after your little brother.

You're going to have to be responsible and help me out.

But what if I get lost, and I'm really tired? Aye, well, it's not no problem that you're really tired.

You had a late night when I told you to go to bed.

Who's going to look after your grandmother? You're poor, old grandmother? She's sick, Little Red Riding Hood.

Come on, it's time to be responsible.

You can really see clearly when you role play the two different arguments.

We could even get grandma involved.

What might grandma say? Shall we have a go and imagine we've got grandma on the phone? Grandma, you're going to have to speak to Little Red Riding Hood because she's saying she won't come and visit you with the food that I need her to bring.

Grandma wants to speak to you.

Little Red Riding Hood , please come and visit your poor, old grandma.

I'm not feeling very well at all.

But grandma, I'm feeling very scared.

I don't like to go in the forest alone.

Oh, Little Red Riding Hood, we've walked through that forest lots of times.

You've nothing to be scared of.

But what if I get lost? Oh, Little Red Riding Hood, just listen to your mother.

You could pause the video now and have a go at exploring the arguments between Little Red Riding Hood and her mother, and even maybe her grandmother.

Oh, I wonder how you found role playing the discussion.

I wonder if you got to give it a go.

Well done, if you did.

Me and Cedric were discussing that it made us understand both mum's reason and why it mattered to her and Little Red Riding Hood's reason on why it mattered to her so much because that's what the discussion is all about.

It matters to somebody.

But I wonder if it's made you change your mind about who you agree with.

I feel like I'm changing my mind every lesson, Cedric.

What about you? And it's okay if you agree with both of them like Little Blue Running Shoes as well.

He came up with a really good solution, didn't he? That she go into the forest if she was going to be safe with a woodcutter.

Now, before we go, I've got a joke all about trees.

Are you ready? What does a tree wear to the swimming baths? Oh, you know this one? Go on then, Cedric.

Swimming trunks.

Like the trunk of a tree.

Get it? See you in the next lesson, children.
