Hello, I'm Adam and this is Panda.

And we are now on lesson 2 from unit 4 using this story, "The Three Billy Goats Gruff".

Let's see what's on the agenda today.

So the first thing on our agenda today is a warm-up to remind us of the characters in The Three Billy Goats Gruff and then after that, we're going to sing the story and we're going to map the story.

So for the mapping bit later on in the lesson, you will need a piece of paper and something to draw with.

Okay, onto the warm-up.

We've got a blue screen but Panda and I, we're over here.

So this is the word game.

We're going to give you some clues as to the character and we'd like you to guess which of the characters from The Billy Goats Gruff we are describing.

Are you ready? This character has eyes the size of Billy goat pies, teeth sharp, the colour of custard.

Its great giant jaws can bite through trees like a beast and he'll eat you with dollops of mustard.

Lives under a bridge.

It's the.

troll! The troll is the big problem in the story.

Okay, next one.

The next one is a Billy goat.

This is the Billy goat who came up with the plan.

The plan to trick the big bad troll.

Clever as a kitten.

Do you know who it is? It was the middle one.

The middle one, the clever one, who came up with the plan.

Next, the next character is as sweet as apple pie.

Cross the bridge with a trip trap trip and a wink of the eye.

It was the little Billy goat gruff.

There's only one left.

We've had the little one, the middle-sized one, we've had the troll.

So the last one must be the big Billy goat gruff who used his horns to butt the troll out to sea.

Well done! Right, I think it's time for us to learn how to sing the song.

So, I'm going to teach you "The Billy Goats Gruff" song.

And the first time you hear it, I'm going to ask you to join in with some things.

So when the Billy goats go down to the bridge, do you remember, they went trip trap trapping.

Trip trap trip.

So perhaps, you could join in with your fingers there and if you want to sing along, you can do: ♪ He went trip trap trapping ♪ ♪ Trip trap trip ♪ Brilliant! And the troll jumps out and he's going to say with a shout: ♪ I'm going to eat you up from your tail to your snout ♪ The snout is here and he's going to eat them all the way from the tail to the snout.

So, make yourself look like a big bad troll.

♪ I'm going to eat you up from your tail to your snout ♪ Could you join in with those bits? So the trip trap trapping.

And I'm going to eat you up from your tail to your snout.

Brilliant! Here we go, here comes the song of The Billy Goats Gruff.

♪ The three Billy goats ♪ ♪ The toughest you've seen ♪ ♪ Looked across the river at the grass long and green ♪ ♪ We want that grass ♪ ♪ Said The Billy Goats Gruff ♪ ♪ But the troll under the bridge is rough and tough ♪ ♪ We need a plan ♪ ♪ We need a trip trap trapping plan ♪ ♪ The little Billy goat crossed the bridge with a skip ♪ ♪ He went trip trap trapping ♪ ♪ Trip trap trip ♪ ♪ The troll leapt out and said with a shout ♪ ♪ I'm going to eat you up from your tail to your snout ♪ ♪ The little Billy goat said don't eat me ♪ ♪ My big and juicy brother's coming ♪ ♪ He's yummy ♪ ♪ That was the plan ♪ ♪ That was the trip trap trapping plan ♪ ♪ The middle-sized Billy goat ran double-quick ♪ ♪ He went trip trap trapping ♪ ♪ Trip trap trip ♪ ♪ The troll leapt out and said with a shout ♪ ♪ I'm going to eat you up from your tail to your snout ♪ ♪ The middle-sized goat said don't eat me ♪ ♪ My big and juicy brother's coming ♪ ♪ He's yummy ♪ ♪ That was the plan ♪ ♪ That was the trip trap trapping plan ♪ ♪ The big Billy goat went stamp stomp kick ♪ ♪ He went trip trap trapping ♪ ♪ Trip trap trip ♪ ♪ The troll leapt out and said with a shout ♪ ♪ I'm going to eat you up from your tail to your snout ♪ ♪ The big goat laughed ♪ ♪ You can't eat me ♪ ♪ And butted that troll right out to sea ♪ ♪ That was the plan ♪ ♪ That was the trip trap trapping plan ♪ ♪ That was the trip trap trapping plan ♪ So how was that? Did you manage to join in with the trip trap trapping? Well, we've sung the song.

Now would be a good time to map it.

Here we go.

So, we've heard the story and we've sung the story.

So Panda and I thought it'd be a good time now to draw some pictures onto a story map, so it helps us remember the story.

So, some of you may have done this before but every map, of course, is different.

That's what makes it a special story map each time.

So, we have in the story Three Billy Goats Gruff.

So we better start with that, haven't we? And each one of them, of course, has horns.

And the first one, do you remember, was a sweet one.

As sweet as apple pie and likes to skip a lot.

So there's the small one.

He has a bigger brother, so I need to show that in the picture.

And this bigger brother is the one who has the brilliant idea.

He's the one who's clever as a cat or clever as a kitten because kittens are clever too.

So there we go, it's the horns, his ears as well.

And, of course, the big brother is the big Billy goat.

The big thing here is the horns, really impressive horns.

Old, and worn, and strong, and sharp.

And they could knock any other Billy goat right out of the park.

Now, there's a problem.

The big problem, of course, is the troll.

So we'll put the troll in the middle of the map because he's always there.

So, eyes, they have quite bulbous noses.

Teeth.

Sharp teeth.

Eyes as big as Billy goat pies.

And let's give him arms. I'm going to put a big shaggy coat all around him.

Or ears.

Big feet.

Not easy drawing trolls.

Anyway, does it look ferocious enough, fierce enough? There's the troll and he lives under the bridge and that's the problem, isn't it? Because the Billy goats have to cross the bridge.

One, two, three Billy goats: a small one, a middle-sized one, and a big one.

They've got to cross the bridge, so the middle Billy goat has a plan.

We'll draw an arrow.

Can you remember who the first one to go was? Was it the big one, the middle-sized one, or the little one? It was the sweet one.

So I'm going to draw the small one again.

Do you remember the sweet, sweet one went first? As sweet as apple pie, he is.

And he skipped.

He skipped and went trip trap trip trap and the troll jumped out and said with a shout: "I'm going to eat you from your tail to your snout!" There's the tail and the snout is here at the face.

But he gives the troll a wink and before he could think, he dashes past.

And then the second Billy goat comes and he's singing.

They're all singing, that's part of the plan.

It kind of throws him.

So the little one goes first, then it's the bigger one, the clever one, the one whose idea it was in the first place.

Now he crossed double-quick with a trip trap trapping, trip trap trip and he too gave a wink.

Before the troll could think, he ran past and the big Billy goat was already singing.

♪ I'm a big Billy goat with a very furry coat.

♪ And the big one came and well, he just put his head down and he used those lovely big horns and he butted him.

He worked him with his head and sent him high into the sky.

Can you remember where he landed? He landed with a splash in the sea.

And then the three Billy goats, who, of course, they were living on a hill.

Better draw the hill.

They were living on a hillside.

Got to the other side of the hill and they were able to eat the green grass.

So that's how I would draw a story map of that story.

And the important thing is, is that you understand the map and that you recognise the pictures and it makes sense to you.

So you can't be wrong.

I'm going to pause the video now and give you a chance for you to try and draw your own story map of this story: The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Okay, when you're finished come back but now, it's time for work.

So how was that? Did you find it quite calming? Taking some time to think about the story and draw some pictures? Well remember, we at Oak Academy love to see your work.

So if you speak to your carers and teachers, they will know how to share your lovely work with us, so please do.

What have we done today? Well today, we played a word game where you had to guess the character in the story by the clues that Panda and I gave you.

Then, we sang the story and you joined in with the trip trap trapping, trip trap trip.

And then we drew the story on a story map.

So, our challenge to you is to show your story map to somebody and try and tell them what's going on in the story.

We're really looking forward to the next session because there we are going to step the story, doing actions, and we're going to start to add some detail to the storytelling.

So by lesson 5 you'll be able to tell the story, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, all by yourself.

So keep on drawing story maps and telling stories, and Panda and I, we really look forward to seeing you in the next session soon.

Until then, goodbye!.
