Hello everyone, Miss Brittain here and my talk partner, Cedric, for your third lesson of the unit.

Our learning objective today is to step and speak a story.

When we step a story, we use actions to retell and remember the really important bits.

What will we do in today's lesson then? We'll start off with a nursery rhyme which is going to help us recap the story a little bit.

Then we're going to use our maps to speak the story, like we did in the last lesson.

And then we'll step the story.

And don't worry if you haven't done this before, because we can all do it together at first.

In this lesson, you'll need your story map from the last lesson, your super memory and of course, your teddy talk partner, if you have one.

Pause the video now to go and get any items that you need.

Now it's time for our nursery rhyme.

And remember we've changed our nursery rhyme, The Wheels on the Bus, to fit with our story.

In our last lesson, we sang the nursery rhyme with the duck and the king.

So we'll do one verse each with those and then we'll add some of the other characters from the story, okay? ♪ The duck in the forest goes quack, quack, quack ♪ ♪ quack, quack, quack, quack, quack, quack ♪ ♪ The duck in the forest goes quack, quack, quack ♪ ♪ The king has got her money ♪ ♪ The king is his castle goes mine, mine, mine ♪ ♪ mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine ♪ ♪ The king is his castle goes mine, mine, mine ♪ ♪ He's stolen the ducks money ♪ Who's one of our characters who comes to help the duck? The first character, it's the ladder.

And the ladder's in the bag.

What noise might a ladder make? What noise do you think a ladder would make? Oh great noise, you can use those ones if you'd like.

I'm going to say clang, clang, clang.

Are we ready? The ladder in the bag goes clang, clang, clang.

♪ The ladder in the bag goes clang, clang, clang ♪ ♪ clang, clang, clang, clang, clang, clang ♪ ♪ The ladder in the bag goes clang, clang, clang ♪ ♪ He helped the duck get free ♪ what about the river? ♪ The river in the bag goes swish, swish, swash ♪ ♪ swish, swish, swash ♪ a bit like our wipers, you ready for that one? ♪ The river in the bag goes swish, swish, swash, ♪ ♪ swish, swish, swash, swish, swish, swash ♪ ♪ The river in the bag goes swish, swish, swash ♪ ♪ She helped the duck get free ♪ Oh, great singing today, children.

Before stepping the story, we're going to have a quick retell of the story using our story maps.

And we're going to speak the story like we did in last lesson.

Okay, so here is our story map.

And I'm going to model the first few steps and then I want you to pause the video and have a go at speaking the map with your teddy talk partner.

Okay, so, this is the duck and she's a brave determined duck.

And she had some money and the king stole it from her so she went off into the forest and this is the bit where, can you tell it to the screen, children? That's right, where she met the ladder and the ladder came to help her.

And now this is the bit where she met the.

Can you tell your screen where, what bit this is? Fantastic, where she met the river.

Now if you're feeling confident, I'd like you to pause the video here and speak the rest of your map with your teddy talk partner.

Great work if you gave that a go, children.

I know sometimes it can be a little bit tricky remembering the story but you are doing a great job.

And don't worry if you didn't get a chance to because I'm going to go through the rest now.

This is the bit where she met the bees and they decided to come and help.

This is the bit of the story where she gets put into the hole and she can use a ladder to help her get out.

This is the bit where the king puts her in the pot and the river rushed out of the bag to help her.

This is the bit where the bees chased the king away and stung him.

And then finally, end with the duck becoming queen.

Well done, children, if you gave that a go.

How did that go for you, Cedric? Talking the story map.

Cedric says he was only able to do a little bit.

Don't worry, we're going to keep coming back to it.

Now it's time to step our story.

You may have done this before, but if you've not, don't worry because I'm going to show you first.

Usually when we step a story, every time I say a new event, I will take a step forward.

But if you're like me, and you've not got much room, you can stay in the same spot throughout.

Okay, so when we step a story, we've got actions to the main event which help us to remember the key things that happen in the story.

And in our case, for this story, we're thinking about the duck, her problems and how she overcomes them.

So for each section of my story map, I'm going to walk in a step.

I'll do it first or you can join in with me straight away or you can wait at the end.

You might be confident with stepping already and want to put your own actions.

Or you're welcome to join in with me if you'd like to.

Okay, so my character is a duck and that's my first step, so I'm going to do this, duck.

And then comes the king and he steals her money, so I'm going to say, greedy bad king.

Duck, greedy bad king.

After that, the duck goes into the forest and she meets a ladder.

So I'm going to do that for ladder, ladder.

Duck, greedy bad king, ladder.

After the ladder, comes a river, river.

River.

Duck, greedy king, ladder, river.

After the river comes the bees.

Bees.

Duck, greedy king, ladder, river, bees.

Then, what comes next? That's right, she gets put in a hole.

So, I'm going to say, who helps her get out of the hole? Can you tell me, tell the screen who helps her get out of the hole.

That's right, it's the ladder.

So I'm going to say, hole, ladder.

Hole, ladder.

Go from the beginning.

Duck, king, ladder, river, bees, hole, ladder.

Then she gets put in a pot, doesn't she? And who helps her get out of the pot? That's right, the river.

So I'm going to say pot, river, pot, river.

Then next, who helps her next? The bees sting the king.

So I'm going to go, buzz, buzz.

Let's go from the beginning.

Duck, king, ladder, river, bees, hole, ladder, pot, river, bees, and then finally, the duck becomes queen.

Queen.

Okay, if you'd like to, you can pause the video now and have a go with it on your own or join in with me.

From the beginning, are you ready? First section is, Duck, king, ladder, river, bees, hole, ladder, pot, river, bees, queen.

Have a go now at stepping your story with your teddy talk partner to help.

And if you want to, you might change the actions to something that helps you remember them.

How did you find today's lesson, children? Did you enjoy stepping the story? I absolutely loved stepping the story.

And it's really clear to me now what the ducks problems were and how she overcame them.

Well done if you've had a go with your teddy talk partner at stepping the story.

Before the next lesson, you could go outside or find a bigger space and practise stepping the story with your parent or carer.

You could even think of your own actions, maybe make it into a dance.

Great work today, children, and I'll see you in the next lesson.
