Hello there.

I'm Mrs. Howley.

And this is Cedric, my snail helper.

We've been busy explaining things.

Which word have we been using to explain, Cedric? Because, that's right.

We're going to do some more explaining in this lesson.

In the third lesson of this unit, we're going to step out our explanation and speak the explanation.

We're going to start with the nursery rhyme.

Then we're going to step the explanation.

Then we're going to have a go at speaking it.

For this lesson, you will need your brilliant brain, and you might want to bring along a Teddy talk partner.

If you haven't got one now, pause the video and then press play when you're already.

So far in this unit we've been singing one of my favourite nursery rhymes, "One Potato, Two Potato." But I've recycled it so that we've got a new special version today all about the king feeling so amazed.

It goes like this.

You might want to watch the actions so you can join in next time.

♪ In his great big palace the king deserves a rest ♪ ♪ He's had a busy time if you hadn't guessed ♪ ♪ Every time it happens he really is amazed ♪ ♪ The king cannot believe his eyes ♪ ♪ Can it be explained ♪ ♪ Oh, one surprise, two surprises, ♪ ♪ Three surprises, four ♪ ♪ Five surprises, six surprises, ♪ ♪ Seven surprises, more ♪ ♪ One surprise, two surprises, ♪ ♪ Three surprises, four ♪ ♪ Five surprises, six surprises, ♪ ♪ Seven surprises, more ♪ Have a go now at joining in with the actions.

Okay.

♪ In his great big palace, the king deserves a rest ♪ ♪ He's had a busy time if you hadn't guessed ♪ ♪ Every time it happens he really is amazed ♪ ♪ The king cannot believe his eyes ♪ ♪ Can it be explained ♪ ♪ Oh, one surprise, two surprises, ♪ ♪ Three surprises, four ♪ ♪ Five surprises, six surprises, ♪ ♪ Seven surprises, more ♪ ♪ One surprise, two surprises, ♪ ♪ Three surprises, four ♪ ♪ Five surprises, six surprises, ♪ ♪ Seven surprises, more ♪ He was really surprised.

So many amazing things happen to him.

So in this unit, we're explaining why the king was so amazed.

Can you remember who helped us? Dr.

Explanation, that's right.

Now, what was the special word that Dr.

Explanation used to explain really well.

Because, that's right, Cedric.

Now let's have a go at talking our map using the special word because.

If you've got your map handy, then that's great.

So it started with the farmer was scared.

Why was the farmer scared the first time, Cedric? Because the dog spoke, that's right.

Then the farmer was scared.

Why was he scared a second time, Cedric? Because a chicken spoke.

That was right.

Then he ran away again really fast.

So then the king was confused and stopped him.

But why did the king stop him, Cedric? Because the farmer was running so fast.

You ask me a question now, Cedric.

Why was the king surprised? The king was surprised because a chicken spoke, a loaf of bread, and a dog spoke.

And then finally, why was that king amazed? The king was amazed because the throne spoke.

That's right.

We've heard the explanation, but now we're going to have a go at stepping the explanation.

When we step a text, you might have done this before.

Don't worry if you haven't.

We imagine that we're creating stepping stones across a river, and every step we take takes us to another important part of the text.

Now, in case I forget any important parts of our explanation, I've got my text map handy.

Okay, so I'm going to start with some actions and words to help me, why don't you join in.

So the farmer was scared.

I need an action for because.

I'm going to do a big point, like this.

The farmer was scared because a dog spoke.

The farmer was scared because a chicken spoke.

The king, what did the king do? Oh, yes.

The king stopped him because the farmer ran so fast.

That king was surprised because dog spoke and the chicken spoke.

The king was amazed because the throne spoke.

Brilliant.

Now I'm going to try it without any words and just my actions.

This is really going to help me learn the explanation text.

Right, if I get stuck, I've got my text map.

Let's give it a go.

Fantastic! Now, why don't you have a go at stepping the explanation text.

Pause the video and then press play when you're ready.

So we've heard the explanation text.

We've mapped the explanation text.

We've stepped the explanation text.

What should we do now, Cedric? What are we ready for? Speaking the text, yes.

Now I'm going to try and be like Dr.

Explanation and explain really well using the word because.

Now, Cedric, what if I get stuck? I could use my map.

Great idea.

I've got that handy.

What else could I do? Remember my actions from the stepping.

Fantastic.

Right, I'm going to give it a go.

So it started when the farmer was scared because a dog spoke.

So then he ran away.

Next, look at my map.

Good idea.

Next, the farmer was scared because a chicken spoke.

So he ran away again.

The king, the king stopped him because he was running so fast.

Check my map.

Oh, the king was surprised because a dog spoke and a chicken spoke.

And then finally the king was amazed because the throne spoke, and thrones don't talk.

Now it's your turn to try speaking the explanation.

I wonder if you can use the special word that Dr.

Explanation used to explain the word because, that's right.

Pause the video now to have a go and then press play when you're ready.

Wow, we've learned to retell an explanation from memory.

We deserve a super star cheer.

Are you ready? Super star! Yes, you're right, Cedric.

We used the word because lots of times today.

I wonder if you can use the word because today at home.

Have a fantastic day and we can't wait to see you for the next lesson, our fish unit.

Bye.
