Hi, super storytellers and welcome to this English lesson.

My name is Ms Cashin, and this is lesson two of our unit.

If you did lesson one with me, you will know that we are learning some instructions, all about defeating the very, very dangerous fire giants.

Today, we are going to learn those instructions from memory so you'll be able to give instructions about defeating giants to all of your friends and family.

Let's see what we're going to do in this lesson so we can memorise those instructions.

First, we're going to warm up for our lesson by singing a song all about fire.

Then we're going to hear those instructions again.

Then we're going to step the instructions, and then we're going to speak through the instructions.

So when you've done all of that, those instructions will be in your memory.

We don't need an exercise book or a piece of paper for this lesson because all we need is our brilliant, brilliant brain.

However, if you have your story map that we made in lesson one of this unit, you could go and get that now.

So if you need to go and get that, pause the video and go and find your story map.

Fantastic superstars.

You are all ready for today's lesson.

So we're going to start by singing a song.

Here, we've got a bit of a longer version of the song that we sing in our instructions.

Do you remember why we have to sing the song? It's so that the fire giant hears it, comes outside, and says who's singing my favourite song all about fire.

I've spotted these delicious red hot chilli peppers.

I think I'm going to eat one.

So we do it to get him out of the house.

I going to sing it a few times, and you can join in if you think that you can.

Okay.

And I can do my actions as well.

♪ Fire, fire, I love fire ♪ ♪ Fire is light and fire is bright ♪ ♪ Fire is hot but ice is not ♪ ♪ Fire will heat your cooking pot ♪ Let's see if you can join in.

♪ Fire, fire, I love fire ♪ ♪ Fire is light and fire is bright ♪ ♪ Fire is hot but ice is not ♪ ♪ Fire will heat your cooking pot ♪ Oh, fantastic.

Let's do it one more time.

Here we go.

Get your fire ready.

♪ Fire, fire, I love fire ♪ ♪ Fire is light and fire is bright ♪ ♪ Fire is hot but ice is not ♪ ♪ Fire will heat your cooking pot ♪ Oh my goodness.

What fantastic singing! Now that we're all warmed up, we're going to hear those instructions again.

Introduction.

I am an expert at catching and defeating giants, and I'm going to give you some instructions so you can do the same.

I have caught beanstalk giants.

I have caught stone giants, and I've caught frost giants.

But my favourite giant to defeat is the fire giant.

Fire giants glow like the sun.

And they sound like burning twigs, but they can be very dangerous.

If you listen to my instructions, you will be able to defeat the fire giants too.

Equipment.

To catch a fire giant, you will need a strong shovel, a tall ladder, a bag of red hot chilies, a confident singing voice, and a bucket of cold water.

Instructions.

Number one, first walk to the fire giant's house.

Number two, next dig a deep hole outside their house.

If the fire giant hears you, stop and hide behind a bush.

Three, when you have finished the hole, climb out with your ladder.

Four, carefully lay a trail of red hot chilies from the house to the hole.

If you have any chilies left, place them around the edge of the hole.

Five, creep back to the giant's house and sing their favourite song.

♪ Fire, fire, I love fire ♪ ♪ Fire is light and fire is bright ♪ ♪ Fire, fire.

I love fire ♪ ♪ Fire is light and fire is bright ♪ If the giant doesn't come out, sing a bit louder.

♪ Fire, fire, I love fire ♪ ♪ Fire is light and fire is bright ♪ Six, watch the giant eat the delicious chilies and wait until they reach the hole.

Seven, when the giant is by the edge of the hole, sneak up and push them in.

Eight, finally get to your ice bucket and cover the fire giant in ice.

If the fire goes out, you have defeated the fire giants.

Now you're going to watch me step through my instructions.

So super storytellers, I've got my map here from lesson one of this unit, and I'm going to start stepping through it.

I'm going to put an action to each picture, and I'm going to say one word.

I've tried to think about the most important word for me to start memorising my instructions.

So I'm going to put this down on the floor in front of me.

I'm also going to do a big step between each of it.

Hello.

Love.

Equipment.

Walk.

Dig.

Climb.

Lay.

Sing.

Watch.

Push.

Pour.

I've really enjoyed stepping through my instructions.

And now it's your go to step through the instructions.

Remember, you need a clear action or pose for each picture.

You also need a clear step in between, and you need to say one word to help you as you go.

And you can go and practise this as many times as you like.

When you can do it with a clear action and one word, come back to this video and see what we're going to do next.

So you can pause the video now.

Well done, super storytellers.

You are one step closer to knowing these instructions from memory.

Absolutely brilliant.

Now you're going to watch me speak my instructions.

I know that I've already spoken one word, but this time I'm going to do a little bit more.

Right, super storytellers.

Now that I have stepped through, and I've done that a few times with one word, I'm now going to add a phrase.

So more than more word for each picture.

When you go and do this, you might do a short phrase like me, or you might start to retell the instructions like you saw me doing at the beginning of this lesson and in unit three, lesson one.

So you can go back and listen to that again.

And then when you go and step through with your map, see if you can start to retell it as brilliantly as you heard me doing it at the beginning.

Okay, here we go.

Hello.

I'm an expert.

I love catching fire giants.

You need some equipment, a shovel, a ladder, some red hot chilies, your singing voice, and some ice cold water.

Walk to the house.

Dig a deep hole.

Climb with your ladder.

Lay the red hot chilies.

Sing loudly.

♪ Fire, fire, I love fire ♪ ♪ Fire is light and fire is bright ♪ Watch the giant eat.

Push him in the hole.

Pour on cold water.

Now it's time for you to speak through the story.

So remember to have a clear voice, use expression, and use your actions to help you remember what comes next.

So you can pause the video and go and speak through your story.

Well done, super storytellers.

You have been amazing.

I wonder if you have the energy for a challenge.

My challenge is here.

It says, how far can you speak through your story without looking at your map? I wonder how far you could get.

You could start off and maybe if you have two or three boxes, and you could then try again and see if you can get even further.

So pause the video now and have a go at your challenge.

Well done, super storytellers.

You have done so well today.

And I'm sure now that you could tell your friends and family how to defeat the fire giants.

I would love to see some of your stepping and speaking.

You could even take a video of it if you would like to.

Remember, you can always share your work with Oak National.

So if you'd like to, please ask your parent or carer to share your work on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, tagging @OakNational and #LearnwithOak.

In our next lesson, we're going to learn even more about writing instruction.

So I'm very, very excited, and I hope to see you then.

Bye, super storytellers.
