Hello, I'm Adam, and this is Panda, and this is Unit Two, Lesson Five, on "Bat Learns to Dance." Here's the agenda.

So for our warm up today, we're going to start with a new nursery rhyme, and the main activity, the big challenge of today's lesson, to tell the story of "Bat Learns to Dance" independently.

For this session, you might need only your talk teddy.

So our warm up today is learning a new nursery rhyme, and it's one of my favourites.

I remember it from being a child, and it's got some words in it I really like.

Knickknack, do you want to say that after me? Knickknack, knickknack.

We've been listening into this unit for words that rhyme, sound a little bit alike, knickknack.

And a knickknack is a lovely, they're lovely rhyming words.

Knickknacks are little things like this that you find on shelves around the house.

Here's one we have at home.

This is a little knickknack our daughter, Anna, made, and it's a little rabbit that she made when she was in reception.

So that's what a knickknack is.

And in this story, there's an old man.

So for an action, we might do this for the old man.

And I've changed the nursery rhyme a little bit.

I played with it myself.

So let's learn the actions.

So we'd go, ♪ This old man ♪ ♪ He played one ♪ So show your thumb.

♪ He played knickknack on my thumb ♪ So do something like that.

Together? ♪ This old man ♪ ♪ He played one ♪ I forgot to do the beard, didn't I? So do it again.

♪ This old man ♪ ♪ He played one ♪ ♪ He played knickknack on my thumb ♪ ♪ With a knickknack flapper-jack ♪ ♪ Give a dog a bone ♪ ♪ This old man came rolling home ♪ So I do that for rolling.

So one and thumb.

The next verse is two and shoe.

So the way we play knickknack on our shoe is just we tap our shoe.

Can you try that? So we'd go: ♪ This old man ♪ ♪ He played two ♪ ♪ He played knickknack on my shoe ♪ ♪ With a knickknack flapper-jack ♪ ♪ Give a dog a bone ♪ ♪ This old man came rolling home ♪ Next is number three, and what rhymes with three? Knee, we play knickknack on our knee like that.

♪ So this old man ♪ ♪ He played three ♪ ♪ He played knickknack on my knee ♪ ♪ With a knickknack flapper-jack ♪ ♪ Give a dog a bone ♪ ♪ This old man came rolling home ♪ And four rhymes with door.

So we'd go: ♪ This old man ♪ ♪ He played four ♪ ♪ He played knickknack on my door ♪ ♪ With a knickknack flapper-jack ♪ ♪ Give a dog a bone ♪ ♪ This old man came rolling home ♪ Well done.

Now you've got to be very clever 'cause I'm going to play the guitar to sing the song together.

So can you do the actions? So old man, rolling home, and we're knocking on the door for four, we're knickknacking on our knee for three, we're knickknacking on our shoe for two, and we're knickknacking with our thumbs on one.

Here we go.

♪ This soul man ♪ ♪ He played one ♪ ♪ He played knickknack on my thumb ♪ ♪ With a knickknack flapper-jack ♪ ♪ Give a dog a bone ♪ ♪ This old man came rolling home ♪ ♪ This old man ♪ ♪ He played two ♪ ♪ He played knickknack on my shoe ♪ ♪ With a knickknack flapper-jack ♪ ♪ Give a dog a bone ♪ ♪ This old man came rolling home ♪ Knee.

♪ This old man ♪ ♪ He played three ♪ ♪ He played knickknack on my knee ♪ ♪ With a knickknack flapper-jack ♪ ♪ Give a dog a bone ♪ ♪ This old man came rolling home ♪ ♪ This old man ♪ ♪ He played four ♪ ♪ He played knickknack on my door ♪ ♪ With any knickknack flapper-jack ♪ ♪ Gave a dog a bone ♪ ♪ This old man came rolling home ♪ That was fun.

Nursery rhyme, done.

And so to the big challenge of today's lesson and the whole unit so far, you going to have a go at telling the story of "Bat Learns to Dance" all by yourself.

So, you may have done some of these things or all of these things, but we started with me telling the story, then we sang the story, then we drew a story map, and you might have your story map there.

After that, we stepped through the story, and then we told the story in mime with you thinking the words in your head.

Remember every word quietly said, in your head, it still heard.

That is still storytelling.

So, shall we one more time do it together? So if I do the actions, you might try to say the words with me.

Here we go.

Once upon a time in a deep, dark cave, good, a cold little bat, a shiver she made.

She dropped from her sleeping place high in the cave and she dropped to the ground, hardly making a sound.

"I'm so c-c-cold," said the bat.

"I wonder who could help me get warm." She shivered and she shook.

Then she stepped outside to take a look.

Crunch went her feet on the cold frosty ground.

On bat went till a friend she found.

"Lady bird, lady bird," called the bat.

"I'm feeling c-c-cold.

Can you help with that?" "Well," says the lady bird, "when I feel cold, I flap my wings like this." And she went: ♪ Flap, flap, flap, ♪ ♪ Flappity flap ♪ ♪ Flappity flap ♪ ♪ Flappity flap ♪ ♪ Flap, flap, flap ♪ ♪ Flappity flap ♪ ♪ I flap my wings like this ♪ "Oh, I like this," said bat.

She was starting to get warm.

Ready? Crunch went her feet on the cold frosty ground.

On bat went till a friend she found.

"Rabbit, rabbit," called the bat.

"I'm feeling c-c-cold.

Can you help with that?" "Well," says the rabbit, "when I feel cold, I hop around like this." ♪ Hop, hop, hop ♪ ♪ Hoppity hop ♪ ♪ Hoppity hop ♪ ♪ Hoppity hop ♪ ♪ Hop, hop, hop ♪ ♪ Hoppity hop ♪ ♪ I hop around like this ♪ "Ooh," says the bat, "can I try that?" ♪ Hop, hop, hop ♪ ♪ Hoppity hop ♪ ♪ Hoppity hop ♪ ♪ Hoppity hop ♪ She started to feel much warmer.

Crunch went her feet on the cold frosty ground.

On bat went till a friend she found.

"Worm, worm," called the bat.

"I'm feeling c-cold.

Can you help with that?" "Well," says the worm.

"when I feel cold, I wiggle around like this." ♪ Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle ♪ ♪ Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle ♪ ♪ Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle ♪ ♪ Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle ♪ ♪ Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle ♪ ♪ Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle ♪ ♪ I wiggle around like this ♪ "Ooh," says bat, "can I try that?" And she went: ♪ Wiggle wiggle, wiggle ♪ ♪ Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle ♪ ♪ Wiggle around like this ♪ Crunch went her feet on the cold frosty ground.

On bat went till her mom she found.

"Mom," said bat, "I was feeling so c-c-cold, but now I know three ways to get warm." And she showed her mom the dance.

♪ Flap, flap flap ♪ ♪ Flappity flap ♪ ♪ Flappity flap ♪ ♪ Flappity flap ♪ ♪ Flap, flap, flap ♪ ♪ Flappity flap ♪ ♪ I flap around like this ♪ ♪ Hop, hop, hop ♪ ♪ Hoppity hop ♪ ♪ Hoppity hop ♪ ♪ Hoppity hop ♪ ♪ Hop, hop, hop ♪ ♪ Hoppity hop ♪ ♪ I hop around like this ♪ ♪ Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle ♪ ♪ Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle ♪ ♪ Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle ♪ ♪ Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle ♪ ♪ Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle ♪ ♪ Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle ♪ ♪ I wiggle around like this ♪ Bat was feeling warm.

And she got into bed and she fell fast sleep.

I'm going to pause the video, pause the lesson now.

And I would like you to try be brave.

Tell that story in some way.

You can use your story map.

You can use words.

Some of it can even be in mime.

But have a go at showing somebody, your talk teddy even.

Tell that story.

Enjoy.

So how was that? Did you manage to tell your story? Even if you didn't say the words out loud and you acted some of it out, you were still being a storyteller.

Well, remember you can always share your lovely work with us here at the Oak Academy, ask your carers and teachers, and they'll show you how to do it, or they will do it, of course, on your behalf.

I think there's only one way to finish this session, and that is by singing the "Bat Learns to Dance" song.

And next time in the next lesson, we are going to be looking at taking this story of "Bat Learns to Dance," recycling it, and making it into another one.

So are you ready to dance? If you want to and you're able to, feel free to stand up and dance around.

I'm putting the headphones on so I can hear the backing track.

Here we go.

You know what's coming.
