Hello, I'm Adam and this is Panda.

We are on unit five, lesson four, using the story of mouse deer.

Let's see what's on the agenda today.

So for our warm up today we're going to start with a couple of nursery rhymes.

And then it's quickly on to the big challenge of the session which is for you to tell this story to someone with you or to your talk teddy.

So in this session it might well be that you need your talk teddy, but not just yet.

Because Panda and I, we are going to do some things to help you with your storytelling first.

Let's move on to the warm up.

These two nursery rhymes are sung in circles by children holding hands and skipping.

This first one is called In and Out The Dusty Bluebells.

I think the idea is children skip in and out of the children going around the circle.

And they choose who's going to be their partner to dance in the middle.

And while they do that, everybody sings this ♪ In and out the dusty bluebells ♪ ♪ In and out the dusty bluebells ♪ ♪ In and out the dusty bluebells ♪ ♪ Who will be my partner? ♪ ♪ Tippy tippy tap tap ♪ ♪ On your shoulder ♪ ♪ Tippy tippy tap tap ♪ ♪ On your shoulder ♪ ♪ Tippy tippy tap tap ♪ ♪ On your shoulder ♪ ♪ You will be my partner ♪ ♪ In and out the dusty bluebells ♪ ♪ In and out the dusty bluebells ♪ ♪ In and out the dusty bluebells ♪ ♪ Who will be my partner? ♪ ♪ Tippy tippy tap tap on your shoulder ♪ ♪ Tippy tippy tap tap on your shoulder ♪ ♪ Tippy tippy tap tap on your shoulder ♪ ♪ You will be my partner ♪ ♪ Ring a ring of roses ♪ ♪ A pocket full of posies ♪ ♪ A tissue a tissue ♪ ♪ We all fall down ♪ ♪ Ring a ring of roses ♪ ♪ A pocket full of posies ♪ ♪ Milk and sugar in a cup ♪ ♪ We all jump out ♪ That was fun, nursery rhymes done.

So before you tell the story by yourself to your talk teddies, we're going to take you through all the important things.

So let's start by practising the setting of the story.

Okay? We can do this together now.

So let's turn on the rain.

Show me with your fingers, and joining with me.

Through the pitter patter pitter patter of your rain tiger hunted.

Through the chitter chatter chitter chatter of the monkeys tiger prowled.

Through the drip drop drip drop of the raindrops tiger hunted.

Through the squelch squirch squelch squirch tiger prowled.

Through the pitter patter pitter patter of the raindrops tiger hunted.

Through the chitter chatter chitter chatter of the monkeys tiger prowled.

Through the drip drop drip drop of the raindrops tiger hunted.

Through the squelch squirch squelch squirch of his paws tiger prowled.

If we can remember that little poem, it will really help with the way we describe the setting at the beginning of the story.

Right, let's have a quick little remind ourselves of the story map.

So when it comes to the challenge of the lesson when it's your turn to tell the story to your talk teddies, it's okay if you want to use your story map.

And you can always come back and pause this one too if that helps.

But let's go through it now before I tell the story, one last time.

So the story starts here with tiger, and we've just practised how to describe the forest.

Through the pitter patter pitter patter of the raindrops.

Now, Tiger hears a song ♪ I'm quick and I'm sharp, ♪ ♪ And I have no fear ♪ ♪ Who am I? ♪ ♪ I'm the little mouse deer ♪ And tiger pounces with a roar says "I'm going to eat you".

But the mouse deer says, "no, sorry, I'm guarding the king's pudding." Now, can you remember what she says? She says "this chocolate is ooey and gooey and sweet! It's scrummy and yummy to eat." So of course the tiger tastes it, and what does he say? He says "Yuck!" People like that bit.

Later, he finds mouse deer and he hears a song by a tree.

Now, she has to persuade him to hit the drum.

And we learnt a way of doing that, didn't we? Do you remember? "This drum is amazing, you'll all want to dance.

It booms and vibrates, hit it hard, take a chance." Of course tiger hits it.

The tree vibrates and the wasps come out and they sting him.

Oh ah ah ah! I sounded a bit like a monkey there, didn't I? Finally, he finds mouse deer by the snake.

But mouse deer says that's not a snake, she says "that's the king's belt." do you remember what she says? "this belt is amazing and shines very bright.

It razzles and dazzles and twinkles at night." Of course the tiger puts it on, and then the snake wakes up and coils.

This picture here reminds me of the word coils.

The snake coils around the tiger, and the last sound the tiger hears is the mouse deer singing her song.

♪ I'm quick and I'm sharp ♪ ♪ and I have no fear ♪ ♪ who am I? ♪ ♪ I'm the little mouse deer ♪ Well before you tell this story, don't worry I'm going to tell it one more time with you joining in before you do it on your own and with your talk teddies.

So I think its time now for me to tell the story.

Do you remember this? Earlier in the unit when we were practising high frequency words.

The big tiger and mouse deer.

I think we're ready for the story.

It's story time it's story time look, listen, learn.

Once there was a forest and in the forest there lived a tiger.

And he was a hungry tiger.

Through the pitter patter pitter patter of the rain the tiger hunted.

Through the chitter chatter chitter chatter of the monkeys the tiger prowled.

Through the drip drop drip drop of the raindrops tiger hunted.

Through the squelch squirch of his paws tiger prowled.

One day as he prowled, tiger heard a song.

♪ I'm quick and I'm sharp ♪ ♪ And I have no fear ♪ ♪ Who am I ♪ ♪ I'm a little mouse deer ♪ And he looked and he saw a small creature with whiskers.

A mouse deer.

And he pounced and he roared "mouse deer, I'm going to eat you for breakfast!" "Sorry I can't be your breakfast" said mouse deer.

"You see, I'm guarding the king's pudding." "Ooo" said tiger.

"What's the king's pudding?" "Well" she pointed to a puddle.

This chocolate is gooey and ooey and sweet and so very yummy and scrummy to eat.

"Ooo" says tiger "could I try some?" "Yes, but I would have to skedaddle." Mouse deer ran away and the tiger got a paw and he tasted some.

"Yuck!" Said the tiger.

"That's not chocolate, it's mud." And he was angry then.

Through the pitter patter pitter patter of the rain tiger hunted.

Through the chitter chatter chitter chatter of the monkeys tiger prowled.

Through the drip drop drip drop of the rain box raindrops tiger hunted.

Through the squelch squirch squelch squirch of the ground tiger prowled.

♪ I'm quick and I'm sharp ♪ ♪ And I have no fear ♪ ♪ Who am I ♪ ♪ I'm a little mouse deer ♪ He saw the mouse deer by a tree and he pounced with a roar.

You ready? "Mouse deer I'm going to eat you for my lunch." "Sorry, can't be your lunch I'm too busy guarding the king's drum." "the king's drum?" She pointed to a wasps nest on a tree.

"This drum is such fun it makes everyone dance.

It booms and vibrates.

Hit it hard, take a chance." The tiger pulled back his paw and he thwacked it.

The wasps came out "Ah! Ah! Ah! Oh! Ah Ah Ah!" Went the poor tiger as the wasps stung him.

And now he was really angry.

Through the pitter patter pitter patter of the rain tiger hunted.

Through the chitter chatter chitter chatter of the monkeys tiger prowled.

Through the drip drop drip drop of the raindrops tiger hunted.

Through the squelch squirch of his paws that tiger prowled.

♪ I'm quick and I'm sharp ♪ ♪ And I have no fear ♪ ♪ Who am I ♪ ♪ I'm a little mouse deer ♪ He found her.

And when he saw her he pounced with a roar.

"Mouse deer, I am going to eat you for my evening dinner." "Sorry, no can do, too busy." "Busy?" "I'm guarding the king's belt." "The king's belt?" She pointed to the snake.

"This belt is amazing and shines very bright it razzles and dazzles and it twinkles at night." "Could I try it on?" Said the tiger.

Mouse deer skedaddled.

But when the tiger put it on the snake woke up and coiled.

She coiled herself around the tiger until the tiger could not move.

And the last thing that tiger heard was mouse deer singing her song.

♪ I'm quick and I'm sharp ♪ ♪ And I have no fear ♪ ♪ Who am I ♪ ♪ I'm a little mouse deer ♪ And that was the end of the story.

Did you notice, did I tell it exactly the same as I told it when you first heard it? No.

Did I make some mistakes? Yes I did.

It wasn't perfect, but I'm practising like you are.

And we make mistakes and it takes a mistake to make the learning great.

So it's your turn now.

You can use your story maps.

You can act out the story with all the actions that we've learnt together.

And you can tell it to a friend or you can tell it to your carer or tell it to your talk teddy.

And when you've finished, come back, and we'll talk a little bit more about the work to come.

Okay, your turn to work.

Good luck.

So how was that? The trickiest story we've worked on so far.

Amazing that you're telling the story like mouse deer and tiger.

And we at Oak Academy would love to see your work.

So if your teachers and carers are happy to share maybe they filmed your storytelling, please send it in to us.

I'd be really really really excited to see it.

So what have we done today? We did some nursery rhymes that were ring games a long time ago, and even today.

We did the poem about the tiger prowling through the forest.

We looked at the story map, and you listened to me telling the story for the last time before you did it.

And now you have told that story too.

That story's very happy now, because that story has been told.

Well, coming up next.

In the next session in this unit, we're going to take the story of mouse deer decide what we really liked about it, and change the story, recycle it to create a new one.

A story that we could be really excited about working on together.

So, Panda and I, we really look forward to seeing you in the next lesson soon.

Until then, please tell your story to someone else and pass it on.

Until then, bye-bye!.
