Hello everybody, I'm Miss Hughes.

I am so excited to have you join today because today we are celebrating.

Can you guess what we're celebrating? We are celebrating birthdays and I'm celebrating my favourite Teddy Toffees birthday.

He's feeling a little bit shy, so I wonder if you can make him feel really welcome by saying, happy birthday Toffee to the screen.

Ready, happy birthday Toffee.

Aw! He's coming to meet you all.

He's excited for you to join our party.

And in this lesson, we're going to learn all about birthdays and understand why we celebrate them.

There are three lessons on birthdays.

One with me, two with Miss Sidenius and three, with Mrs. Garrard.

In this lesson, we will listen to a story, find out what birthdays are, think of ways that we celebrate birthdays and then write an invitation to our Teddy bear party.

You're going to need some paper, a pencil, and an envelope to send your invitation.

Pause the video here, get those things and join when you're ready.

Have you got everything? Great, let's begin.

And our story today is about a little character called Blywd can you all say hello Blywd.

And Blywd is celebrating something very exciting.

Let's listen to his story.

This is called, Blywd's Birthday.

It was Blywd's birthday.

Blywd was turning five and Blywd was going to have a party.

Blywd was super excited for his party.

And on the morning of his birthday, he woke up feeling more excited than ever.

Blywd went shopping to buy some things for his party.

He bought green balloons in his favourite shade.

Can you spot the green balloon? He bought green balloons in his favourite shade.

He bought lots of delicious foods and banners that said happy birthday.

Blywd started to go home thinking he'd forgotten something, but he couldn't remember what.

Then as he passed a bakery, he saw it, I almost forgot a birthday cake, Blywd thought.

Looking at him in the window was the most beautiful cake he'd ever seen.

It was a vanilla sponge filled with jam and cream with Tevye's all over the top.

Blywd bought the cake feeling very excited to eat it.

Blywd was so excited that he run home and even though he was careful, a big gust of wind came and splash, the beautiful cake fell to the ground.

Blywd was devastated.

He felt really upset that he didn't have a cake to share with his friends.

Blywd wanted to cancel the party, but Blywd mom had another idea.

Just as Blywd lay in bed, feeling very upset, there was a knock on the door.

Surprise, cried Blwyd's friends.

Each of his friends stood there each holding, a delicious looking cake.

Wow, what's up dude, how did you know that I needed a cake? Blywd's mum had rung his friends and told them what had happened and they felt really upset for Blywd so they all bought him a cake to eat.

Blwyd had the best party ever sharing his cakes with all of his friends, the end.

I am so glad that Blywd had really kind friends who bought him some cakes for his birthday.

Birthday cakes are a really important way, that we celebrate birthdays.

But, what are birthdays? Wow, birthdays are a special day that come once every year that celebrate his turning, one year older.

On my last birthday, I was 26, how old were you on your last birthday? Tell your screen, some of you were five, some of you were six, some of you were different ages, wow.

Birthdays come once a year and on this date is on the same date every year.

My birthday is in November, but your birthday might be a different month.

Let's sing a song to remind ourselves of the months of the year.

You can join in if you know it.

♪ January February March and April ♪ ♪ May June July and August ♪ ♪September October November December ♪ ♪ These are the months of the year ♪ So, did that help you remember what month your birthday is in? If you're still not sure you can ask your grownup to help you.

What month is your birthday? Ah, okay, so we know the month, what about the date.

My birthday is on the 6th of November.

What date is your birthday on? Tell your screen, my birthday is, wow, we all have different birthdays though sometimes we share a birthday with somebody that we know.

Now, birthday are our special days, and we celebrate them in lots of different ways.

What ways can you think of, that we celebrate birthdays.

Tell your screen.

Lot's of us have parties on our birthdays.

You might've had a party or been to a party where you invite your friends and maybe have some food or do something that you enjoy.

We also give gifts to people on their birthday because it is their special day and it celebrates them turning one year older.

Sometimes we have decorations, like balloons or banners and of course, just like Blywd, we sometimes have a birthday cake that we share with our friends or our family.

Look at the picture on the screen.

What way, is the birthdays being celebrated here.

Tell your screen.

The birthday is being celebrated by, lots of you notice, there is food on the table.

Maybe this person is having a party.

There's a banner, which is a type of decoration and of course there's a cake with a candle on it.

Here are some ways that I celebrate my birthday.

Every year, I have a special birthday breakfast where I open my presents and have food that I really enjoy.

I like to have a party, I don't do that every year, but sometimes on special birthdays, I do.

In this party, I was turning five and I really liked dressing up when I was five, so all of my friends came to my party in fancy dress.

Maybe you've been to a fancy dress party too.

And I like to have a cake on my birthday, here's me on my 10th birthday with 10 candles on my cake.

You can see that I celebrate my birthday in lots of different ways.

I want you to think, how do you celebrate your birthday? Do you have a cake or a party, or maybe the people in your class sing happy birthday to you.

Tell your screen, I celebrate my birthday by, Wow, we celebrate our birthdays in lots of different ways.

Now, we've talked about celebrating birthdays with parties but how does someone know that they want me to come to your party? That's right, you have to invite them and you do that with an invitation.

Here is an invitation from my last party I invited Toffee to my birthday, my thing favourite teddy.

So first, I had to draw some pictures to show Toffee what the party was going to be like.

Then I had to write the invitation and then I had to send the invitation.

Let's look at what I needed to include on the invitation.

First, I had to say who it was to and this invitation was to Toffee.

Then I had to say what was happening and what was happening was a party, so I wrote party.

Then I had to write when it was, so I wrote noon.

Then I had to write where it was and it was at my home so I wrote home.

I then had to write who it was from and it was from me, so I wrote that on my invitation.

Now it's your turn to design your invitation Think really carefully about all of the things that you need to include, then, when you've written it, you might want to put it in an envelope and send it.

You could then have a special party with your Teddy bears.

You could pretend to do that.

If you find writing a little bit challenging or you haven't done much of it yet, you can always draw a picture to represent each part of your invitation or if you have done writing before, have a go of sounding up the words.

If you'd like to, please ask your parents or carer to share your work on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, tagging Oak national and hashtag learn with Oak.

It's been great, celebrating Toffee's birthday with you, and learning about how you celebrate your birthday.

I hope you enjoyed making your invitation and have a great Teddy bears party.

I'll see you soon, bye.
