Hello everyone, Miss Barron here and welcome to lesson eight in our unit on instructions.

Now, at the beginning of our lessons, we've been talking about how useful we're finding instructions in our everyday lives, how they're coming up all the time.

We've been giving some examples of how we've been using them outside of these lessons, haven't we? So I'd like to show you something I made Are you ready? This is my fairy skirt, and I made it so I can dress up as a fairy.

But in order to do it, I had to follow a set of instructions.

I needed to get a white to to skirt, some different colours and different shaped flowers.

I needed some superglue and some safety pins to stick them on with.

This is what I did.

First, I lay the skirt flat out on the table.

Next, I positioned I put the flowers On top of the skirt where I wanted to stick them on.

After that, I stuck someone with superglue, but the ones that were too big and heavy for the glue I attached with safety pins.

Finally, I put the skirt on and looked like a fairy.

So that's an example of how I've used instructions since we last met.

I wonder how you have.

I wonder if you've given any instructions or followed any.

If you can think of an example, can you tell me to your screen now? Say I used instructions well.

Go on tell me to your screen.

Brilliant, so many different examples of how you're following or giving instructions in your lives.

Well, shall we start today's learning and get on with our set of instructions for how to make either a magic cloak or magic shoes or a different type of magic hats.

So in lesson seven, we started writing a new set of instructions didn't we? Well, today we are going to carry on with that we are going to write there what you need section.

Now let's have a look at today's lesson in more detail.

First a quick spelling activity then we're going to recap our instructions toolkit so we know what we need to include.

We're then going to do some shared writing together, and finally, you're going to have a go at some independent writing on your own.

Now in today's lesson, you will need an exercise book or piece of paper to write on a pen or pencil to write with and two more things.

Listen carefully.

You will need your boxing up grid and the opening the introduction of your new set of instructions that we wrote in lesson seven.

So, if you don't already have those things on you pause the video now and go and get them.

Fantastic job, you are back with everything you need today.

Your boxing up grid your introduction are really going to help you with the writing we do today.

So let's begin with our spelling activity Shall we? Our spelling activity today is to practise more tricky words.

So let's first practise reading our tricky words together.

Now it's going to be my turn your turn.

So watch my hand signal to let you know when it's your turn.

I'm going to hold up some flashcards.

Are you ready? Are you in the zone? Brilliant, first word coming now let's go.

The, My turn, the, your turn, the, the the, the, the, the, the, the Well done.

That magic shoes take me wherever I want to go.

The word is the.

Fantastic, next word, is, My turn, is, your turn, is, is, is is is brilliant is.

Here is the magic cloak.

Next word, There my turn, there, your turn there, there, there there, there, there fantastic.

There are gold stars all over my magic shoes.

The word is there.

Next word, Ready? house, my turn, house, your turn, house, house, house, Fantastic.

I went to the tree Charles house to get his note.

The word is house.

Next word, here, my turn, here, your turn, here, here, here, queens voice, here.

Well done.

Here is the magic hat.

And it's here as in here in this place, not hear the sounds that we hear that h-e-a-r here, h-e--r-e means, here.

Here is the magic hat.

Fantastic, Well done.

And finally, last word where, my turn ,where, your turn, Where, where, where, where, brilliant.

Where is the magic hats? Where is the magic hats? So I put in a question, haven't I? The word is where.

So those are tricky words today.

Now let's have a go at using them in some sentences of your own.

You can see the words that we just read together in the table on your screen.

Now you just heard me put them in my own sentences, I would like you now to put them in your own sentences.

So choose at least three more if you can, and make up your own silly sentences, each one using one of our tricky words today.

So here's my example.

A forest fairy lives in a house of lollipops.

A forest fairy lives in a house of lollipops.

My sentence uses the tricky word house, doesn't it? And you can see a picture of the house on your screen.

Looks delicious, doesn't it? So I would like you to pause the video now and make up your own silly sentences using those words.

Pause the video and do that.

Fantastic job, you're back.

Now I would love to hear your favourite silly sentence that you made up.

Go and tell me to your screen now.

Tell me your sentence.

Some fantastic creative sentences using your tricky words, Well done, brilliant job.

Now then, let's have a go at spelling these words.

Now we've practised reading them, we've practised using them in our own sentences, now we're ready to practise spelling them.

So do you remember our strategy from Lesson six, we are going to use the strategy look, cover, write, check, do that with me.

Look, cover, write, check, brilliant.

So you can see that I have used the word the as an example on your screen.

So let me talk you through how to do it.

First you're going to look at the word so look at it carefully.

Then you're going to cover it up with your hands so you can't see it.

After that, you are going to practise writing it three times just like I've done there on the screen.

So write it three times, and then take your hand away so you can see the word and check it and you're going to check your Spelling's to check they are right.

Now, if you've made some mistakes, that's okay.

Just correct them once you check the word.

And I'd like you to do this for all of our six tricky words today.

This is going to really help you remember them because we can't sound these words out, can we? We just have to remember them, we have to learn them.

So this is really going to help you do that.

Pause the video now and have a go at your look, cover, write, check strategy.

Fantastic job, and let's move on to the main part of today's lesson, writing a new set of instructions.

Now, in order to do this, before we start writing, we need to remind ourselves what to write.

And we're going to use our boxing up grid to help us so make sure you've got yours with you now.

Here's mine with me.

So you can see it here and also on the screen.

But remember, mine is different from yours, isn't it, because mine has got all of my own ideas for how to make a pair of magic shoes.

Yours is going to be full of your own ideas, whether that's about how to make magic shoes, how to make a magic cloak, or how to make a different type of Magic hat.

Now I'm going to use my boxing upgrade to help me tell the sections that we're going to write today.

In today's lesson, we are going to write the what you need section and the start of the what you do section.

So listen to me, tell those sections using my boxing up grid to help me and then it's going to be your turn.

Okay, how to make magic shoes.

You will need the horn of a faun, the tooth of a shark, the song of a fairy, the snot of a tree troll and a Queen's bath tub.

This is what you do.

First, add the horn of the faun and the tooth of the shark to the Queen's bath tub.

Next, mix it all together using the snot of a tree troll.

Finally sing the song of a fairy and then we are going to make up our songs.

We haven't done that yet, have we? So whether you decided you wanted the song of a fairy, the song of a mermaid, the song of a harp or the song of something else, we're also going to do that today.

We're going to make a up a song for our what to do section.

So that is me telling the sections we're going to write today using our boxing up gride I would like you to pause the video now and do the same thing.

Fantastic effort using your boxing up grid to retell the sections that we are going to write today.

That's really going to help remind you what to write.

Now one last thing before we start writing, and that is to remind ourselves of our instructions toolkit.

Our toolkit is what great writers do when they write instructions.

So we need to know what those things are so that we can use them too.

Now first, let's sing our instruction song again, that's going to remind us of our four key sections, and then we'll go through the toolkit on your screen, so ready, sing with me, Let's go.

♪ Instructions instructions ♪ ♪ how shall we do it? instructions instructions ♪ ♪ how shall we do it? Explain what it is for ♪ ♪ explain what you need, explain what to do, ♪ ♪ that's how you're doing it ♪ Brilliant, well done.

So the sections that we are going to write today from our song are that what you need, explain what you need, and then what to do, explain what you do sections.

So we're going to write all of our what you need section and some of our what you do section.

So these are some things that we are going to need to use in our writing today.

Let's have a look at the green box on your screen.

So we're going to need to use words like, first, next, then, finally, to order the key steps in our what to do section.

We're going to need to use some imperative verbs too in that section, mix, add, Pour, for example, to tell people what to do.

We're going to need to use short sentences so that we can be really clear and precise.

Precise means exact, doesn't it? we don't want people getting confused.

And finally, we are going to use numbers and bullet points.

I'm going to show you what bullet points are today to order items and our key steps.

So those are the things that we need to remember.

Let's start writing, shall we? And now we're ready to start writing.

You can see that I have got my boxing up grid with me.

Make sure that you've got yours with you too.

It's going to be really helpful with our writing today.

Now, the first thing that I like to do is read back my work that I wrote in lesson seven.

It's really important that you do this too before you start writing today to remind yourself where you left off so you know how to carry on.

So let's start reading from the title.

Read with me, 'How to make magic shoes' Hello, my name is the shoemaker, I make sparkly shoes and shiny shoes.

I make gold shoes and pink shoes.

The best shoes to make are magic shoes.

When you put them on, they will take you where you want to go.

One day, they might take you to a tropical island.

One day, they might take you to the mountains.

Another day they another day they might take you under the sea.

Now, those were my three sentences that I wrote about where the magic shoes can take you.

Do you remember in lesson seven, I asked you to have a go at writing three sentences of your own to say where the magic shoes might take you in your set of instructions or what you might do, where you might go wearing your magic invisibility cloak or what your magic hat might give you.

I wonder what you wrote in those sentences, I'm really interested to find out, I'm looking forward to reading your set of instructions at the end of this unit.

Now, let's move on to our next section.

So let's use our boxing up grid to remind us what that section is.

We've written our introduction.

Now we are going to write our what you need section.

So this box is going to help us now.

Make sure you can see it.

Okay, so I have already started by writing the heading, what you need, you're going to need to write that too.

So what you need, now let's have a look at my boxing up grid, What do I need? I need the horn of a faun first.

So let me write that, and I've got my keywords here to help me as well.

So there's the word faun I can copy that, the Horn of a faun.

Now remember, in our toolkit, we mentioned bullet points, didn't we? And I said I was going to show you how to use those in our writing.

So this is a bullet point, and bullet points help us to list things, The horn of a faun.

Now I don't need a capital letter or full stop when I'm listing single items like we're going to do now.

So I'll show you how that works.

I'm going to write my first thing that I need, the Horn of a faun.

So starting with the small t, and don't need a capital letter, t-h-e spells the one of our spelling words today, isn't it? The horn sound it up with me.

Orn horn, the horn of a faun, now let me check my boxing up grid.

I can copy the word faun from there.

faun f-a-u-n spells faun and I don't need a full stop at the end that's because these are not complete sentences.

There's no main verb, we just listing our single items that we need.

So let me do the next bullet point to this my next item.

Let me check my boxing up grid there it is.

The tooth of a shark.

Let's say that together, the tooth of a shark.

So, small t, t-h-e spells for the tooth sounds out with me.

T-oo-th tooth, the tooth of a now again I can copy shark from my boxing up grid or I can sound it out.

So sound out with me if you like , sh-a-rk shark, the tooth of a shark.

Now what's the next thing I need, So another bullet point to list my next item.

There it is the song of a fairy.

The song so the song sound out song with me, S-o-ng the song of a fairy and again I might copy fairy from my boxing up grid if I wrote those key words in lesson six or we could sound it out f-ea-i there is that happy i sounds about the -y like on the end of happy.

The song of a fairy.

Next bullet point what's the next thing I need let me check my boxing up grid, I need the snot of a tree troll the snot of a tree troll say that with me one more time, the snot of the tree troll.

So, the snot sound it out with me s-n-o-t snot the snot of a tree sound out tree with me t-r-ee tree troll sound out troll with me t-r-oll and it's two lls an the end of troll, the snot of a tree troll.

And finally, the last thing I need let me check my picture it's the bath tub of a queen.

So my final bullet point.

The starting every item on this list with the lots of practise of our tricky word the today, the bath, the bath tub the bath tub, the bath tub of a queen sound out queen with me qwa-ii-n, queen, the bath tub of a queen.

So those are all the things that I need to make my magic shoes.

You are now going to write your list of what you need to make your magic shoes, your magic cloak or your magic hats.

Now it's your turn to write your list of what you need.

Remember to write the heading 'what you need' and underline it and then write your bullet point list.

Use your boxing up grid to help you.

Pause the video and do that now.

Brilliant effort writing your what you need section.

Now we're ready to move on to our what to do section, which is this box on our boxing up grid.

So I've written a heading, 'What you do' and you can see it's got a capital letter, because it's the start of a heading.

This is the heading for our next section what you do.

Now let's look at my boxing up grid to remind me.

Let's look at my first picture, so my sentence is going to be, first add the horn and the tooth to the Queen's bath tub.

Say that with me first, add the horn and the tooth to the Queen's bath tub.

Okay, so I am going to write the number one to show that this is the first thing you do.

So one first, capital F, First, First at a-dd and it's two Ds on at first add the horn, so the we've written the a lot today we're really good at writing the word the now, first add the horn h-o-rn and, and the tooth t-oo-th tooth first add the horn and the tooth to the Queen sound out with me, qwa-ii-ns queen's bath tub to the queen's bath tub and what do I need at the end of my sentence a full stop.

So now I do need a capital letter at the start of my sentence and a full stop at the end, because this is a complete sentence.

Your turn to write your first sentence in your what to do section.

So remember to write your heading 'what you do' and underline it then you are going to write the number one and start your sentence with first because it's the first thing you do.

So first and then choose one of the imperative verbs from the green box, you might choose add pour, or drop the _ and the _ to the _.

So choose your first two ingredients, your first two things on your list of what you need, and then say what you're going to put them in.

So it might be the Queen's bath tub, it might be a pirate's treasure chest It might be an old lady's handbag, or it might be something else.

I would like you to pause the video now and write your sentence.

Fantastic effort writing your set of instructions today.

I cannot wait to read them at the end of this unit.

Now before we finish, I would just like to give you another quick set of instructions so that you can make a different type of paper hat at home if you would like to.

So ,so far in this unit I've told you how you can make a paper with your name on it like this.

I've told you how you can make a paper crown so that you can look like a king or queen like this, and today, I'm going to tell you how you can make a paper cone hat like this.

So this is mine decorated like the sky with stars and moons and the sun.

So here's how to make a paper coat hat.

And I'm going to show you with this one.

So you will need a big piece of paper, a big plate, a bit like this one, some scissors, some glue or sellotape and some colouring pencils or fail tips to decorate it with.

This is what you do.

First, take your piece of paper and put your plate on top of it like this.

You are going to then draw around your plate on your piece of paper to get your circle shape.

Once you have got your circle shape, I've already got mine, you can cut around it so you have a circle like this.

After that, decorate your circle however you like.

Then fold it in half, like this, then fold it in half again so it looks like this.

After that, open it out and cuts with your scissors along one of those folds to the middle of your circle.

Okay, so just along one of your folds.

Finally, place one of the flaps either side of your cut on top of the other like this, and then stick that flap with a glue or sellotape on top.

And there you have a paper cone hat.

So enjoy making that if you would like to remember, please do this with the help of an adult.

You must have somebody helping you with this or have permission from an adult because you need to use scissors and scissors can be dangerous you have to be very careful.

So please do this with the help of an adult.

That's very important, but if you do decide to do it enjoy making your paper cone hats.

Now then that is the end of today's lesson.

I look forward to seeing you in lesson nine when we are going to finish writing our set of instructions.

See you then.

Bye.
