Hello, I'm Mrs. Howley.

This is Cedric my snail helper, and Cedric is very excited because we're going to start writing our own explanations today.

In this lesson, lesson eight of this unit, we're going to write an explanation.

We're going to start with our nursery rhyme.

Then we're going to think about 'because', and have a play with it.

And then we're going to start explaining using a sentence.

In this lesson you will need a pencil and a piece of paper.

Of course, you will need your brilliant brain and you might want to bring along a Teddy talk partner to help.

Pause the video now if you need to collect any of those things, then press play when you're ready.

Let's get started with our nursery rhyme.

So we started with this unit singing "I can sing a rainbow".

Let's practise that one first.

And I want to see your amazing rainbows.

I wonder what colours you can see.

Let's have a go.

♪ Red and yellow, and pink and green ♪ ♪ Purple and orange and blue ♪ ♪ I can sing a rainbow ♪ ♪ Sing a rainbow ♪ ♪ Sing a rainbow too ♪ Fantastic.

And then we recycled the nursery rhyme, all about the amazing things that the king saw.

Now, I wonder if you can remember.

We had a throne that talks, a loaf of bread, a dog, and a chicken too.

Do you want to practise those actions with me? Let's try it.

♪ A thrown that talks and a loaf of bread ♪ ♪ A dog and a chicken too ♪ ♪ It was so amazing, so amazing ♪ ♪ Were you amazed too ♪ Can you join in this time? ♪ A throne that talks and a loaf of bread ♪ ♪ A dog and a chicken too ♪ ♪ It was so amazing, so amazing ♪ ♪ Are you amazed too ♪ Well done.

I loved that some of you showed amazed on your faces.

We need a special word to help us explain.

When doctor Explanation visited at the start of the unit, he used this word to explain.

It's the word.

Because.

Here it is on the screen, because.

Because.

Can you say it for me in a baby's voice? Because.

Can you say it for me in a giant's voice? Because.

Great, we're going to start playing the "because" game now.

Cedric is going to ask me some questions and I'm going to reply using because.

Are you ready, Cedric? Okay.

Why was the farmer scared? Well, I wonder if you can remember.

Why was the farmer scared? Because a dog talked, and dogs don't usually talk.

Only in barks, woof! Ask me another one, Cedric.

Why did the throne talk? Oh, that's a really tricky one.

Why did the throne talk? I'm going to have to use my imagination.

The throne talked because it was tired of being sat on.

Okay, your turn this time, Cedric.

Why did the crown ran away? Remember, Cedric, you've got to use because.

Why did the crown ran away? Good idea, Cedric.

Cedric said, the crown ran away because he wanted to try out a different head.

Great use of because, Cedric.

You might want to try the "because" game with your Teddy talk partner.

We're going to use the word 'because' in our writing today using our box plan.

We're going to start writing the explanation.

'Because' is a tricky word, but we're going to have it on the screen to help you.

There are some other words we're going to need to use today, some high-frequency words.

We're going to have a practise of them now.

The.

Can you after me? The, was, is, it.

As well as our high frequency words, I've also got some star words.

Some tricky words that I think would be useful.

Shocked.

Shocked.

Away, after, and of course, crown.

When it comes to any other words, we're going to have a go at using our phonics.

We're going to say the word, robot the word, and then write the word.

Let's have a look at the first part of our box plan.

The king was shocked, surprised.

Why was he shocked and surprised? Can you remember? Because his crown ran away.

When we're writing our sentence, we're going to think about capital letters, finger spaces, spellings, using our phonics, full stops and we're going to check if it makes sense.

So first, I'm going to think my sentence.

The king was surprised, shocked.

I'm going to go with shocked.

The king was shocked because his crown ran away.

The king was shocked because his crown ran away.

Capital letter.

The king was shocked because his crown ran away, full stop.

I think I can use my phonics for some of those words.

king, can you help me robot that word? King.

K-i-n-g.

King.

Well done.

Another word that we could robot is, ran.

Ran.

R-a-n, ran.

So I'll start with my capital letter.

I've got my high-frequency word.

The.

The, finger space, king.

K k-i k-i-n-g.

That's my diagraph at the end.

The king.

The king, finger space, was.

That's one of our high frequency words.

The king was.

The king was, I have to write my next word on the next line.

The king was shocked.

The king was shocked, that's one of our star words.

The king was shocked, finger space.

And I've got our very special word, because.

The king was shocked because.

I have to go onto the next line.

The king was shocked because his, one of our high frequency words.

His, finger space, crown.

I've given you this as a star word because you might not have learned the /ow/ sound yet.

Because his crown, finger space, ran.

We could robot this word, r-a-n.

R-a, r-a-n, ran.

And our last tricky word, ran away.

Away, full stop.

The king was shocked because his crown ran away.

Now let's have a look at the next part of the box plan.

What did the king do next? The king chased after it or the king ran after it because, oh, because he loved the crown.

Or because it was the best crown.

I'm going to think my sentence first.

The king ran after it because it was the best crown.

The king ran after it because it was the best crown.

Full stop.

So I'll start with my capital T for the, one of our high-frequency words.

The king, the k-i-n-g.

The king, finger space, ran.

You can robot that word.

R-a-n, ran.

The king ran after, one of our star words, the king ran after, finger space, it, the king ran after it.

Then we've got our special word, because.

The king ran after it because it was the best crown.

It, one of our high-frequency words.

It, finger space, was, another one of our high-frequency words.

We can't sound them out, we just have to know it.

Was the best.

Let's robot that word.

B-e-s-t.

B-e, b-e-s, b-e-s-t.

Because it was the best crown.

It was the best crown.

The king ran after it because it was the best crown, full stop.

Okay.

So now it's your turn to have a go at writing the first part of the explanation using a sentence or two.

You've got the box plan there to help you, and I've given you the first part of two sentences.

The king was shocked because the crown ran away, the crown shot off.

The next sentence is, the king ran after it because.

It was the best crown, he loved the crown.

You've got some star words here to help you.

Away, crown, and some of the high-frequency words, the, was, it, and is.

Don't forget to say the word, robot the word, and then write the word.

And don't forget your capital letters and your full stops.

Good luck.

Pause the video and then press play when you're ready.

Wow, wow, wow! I'm really proud of the sentences we wrote today, Cedric.

Why don't you read back your work to your Teddy talk partner or to an adult at home, and then you can feel really proud of what you've achieved.

I think we deserve a superstar cheer.

Are you ready? Super star.

Fantastic! Great use of the word 'because'.

We'll see you in the next lesson of this unit, when we're going to carry on with our writing.

Have a fantastic day.

We'll see you soon.

Bye.
