Hello, there.

I'm Mrs Howley.

And this is lesson nine of our "Explanation Unit." And we've got lots to do.

Where is Cedric? Can you give him a call for me? One, two, three.

Cedric! Here he is.

Come on Cedric.

Lots to do today.

In this lesson, we're going to continue writing our explanations.

We're going to start with the nursery rhyme.

Then we're going to think about, because.

And then we're going to carry on explaining, using sentences.

For this lesson you will need a piece of paper and a pencil.

You'll need your brilliant brain, yes Cedric.

And do you might want to bring along a Teddy talk partner to help.

Pause the video and then press play when you're ready.

It's nursery rhyme time.

In the last couple of lessons, we've been singing, "I Can Sing A Rainbow," and we've been recycling it for amazing things, like the talking throne a talking dog, a talking loaf of bread.

I know that you've got some brilliant ideas of other amazing things that happened to the king.

And I wondered if we could use them in our nursery rhyme.

So Cedric, what other amazing things could have happened to the king? A flying pig.

I love it.

What else? Hhmmm.

What about a singing kangaroo? And of course I've got my crown that runs away.

I'm going to try singing up.

Could you join in with the actions? ♪ A flying pig and a ♪ ♪ Singing kangaroo ♪ ♪ A crown that runs away ♪ ♪ It was so amazing ♪ ♪ So amazing ♪ ♪ Are you amazed too ♪ Cedric's going to and sit over here and listen, while we have another go with those actions.

So we've got a flying pig and a singing kangaroo.

A flying pig and a singing kangaroo, and a crown that runs away.

Let's try it with the actions this time ♪ A flying pig and a ♪ ♪ Singing kangaroo ♪ ♪ A crown that runs away ♪ ♪ It was so amazing ♪ ♪ So amazing ♪ ♪ Are you amazed too ♪ I wonder if you could create your own version of the nursery rhyme with some of your amazing ideas.

Here's our special explaining word again.

Because.

Can you say it for me in a very quiet whisper? Because.

Can you say it for me in a really loud shout? Because.

Dr.

Explanation would be so proud of us Cedric, because we've been using that word to explain.

Remember, we've got a song that helps us remember how important the word because is, when we're explaining.

It goes like this.

♪ How, how, how did it happen ♪ ♪ Why, why, why did it happen ♪ ♪ When we explain we have to use ♪ ♪ Because, because, because ♪ That's right.

And we're explaining why the king was amazed.

I've got some good ideas but I know you've also got some great ideas.

When we're writing today, we're going to need some other high frequency words.

Let's have a practise of them now.

He.

He.

Was.

Your turn? Was.

His.

His.

It.

It.

As well as our high frequency words.

I've got some star words for you that you might want to use.

Could.

Crown.

So.

And don't forget when we're spelling the other words we're going to use our phonics.

And we're going to say the word, robot the word, and then write the word.

Let's have a look at our box plan for the next part of the explanation.

Now, the king could not catch it.

Why couldn't he catch it? The king could not catch it because it ran so fast.

When we're writing our sentence, we're going to think about capital letters, finger spaces, spellings using our phonics, fullstops, and we're going to check it makes sense.

I'm going to think my sentence first.

The king could not catch it because.

Why couldn't he catch it? Maybe it was up to high.

I'm going to say, the king could not catch it because it ran so fast.

Capital letter, the king could not catch it because it ran so fast.

I think there's a few words there we could robot, like, fast.

Special word alert! Because.

The king could not catch it because, my idea was, because finger space, it, it, ran, so finger space, ran, let's robot that.

R a, n.

Ran Because it ran, finger space, so, put the last word, fast, on the next line.

We can robot that one.

F, a, s, t.

A, a, s, a, s, t, full stop.

The king could not catch it because it ran so fast.

Let's have a look at the next part of the box plan, for our next sentence explaining.

The king was sad.

Why was the king sad? That king was sad because his crown was gone.

His crown was lost.

Let's have a think.

I always think my sentence first.

The king was sad because, why is he he's lost something.

In my sentence, the king was sad because he lost his crown.

Capital letter.

The king was sad because he lost his crown, full stop.

Sad.

We can robot that word.

Get your robot arms ready? Sad S, a, d.

Sad.

And lost.

Lost.

Ready? L, o, s, t.

Lost.

The king was sad because he lost his crown.

So, capital T, because it's the start of the sentence.

My high-frequency word the, the, finger space, king.

K, i, ng.

Finger space.

Then I've got another high-frequency word, was, the King was, hmmm, I'm not going to fit sad in there, so I'm going to put it on the next line.

The King was s, a, d.

S, a, d.

Sad.

Finger space, special word because, the King was sad, because finger space, he, one of our high frequency words, because he lost, let's robot that.

L, o, s, t.

Lost, because he lost finger space, his, one of our high frequency words, because he lost his crown.

You might not have learned that ow sound yet.

C, r, ow, n, full stop.

The King was sad because he lost his crown full stop.

And now it's really exciting bit because now you get to write the next part of your explanation.

I put the start of two sentences to help you.

The king could not catch it because, and then you finish that sentence with your ideas.

And the King was sad because, and you can finish that one with your ideas.

I put some star words and some high-frequency words there to help you.

And that's right, Cedric, don't forget with the other words to say the word, robot the word, and then write the word.

Don't forget your capital letters at the start and full stop at the end too.

Pause the video now, have a go and then press play when you're ready.

How did you get on? Your brain must be tired because we've done so much learning in this lesson.

I am so impressed.
