Hi everyone, I'm Ms. Harris and welcome to today's RE lesson.

Today we are going to be thinking about this question.

What might Christians do at church at Christmas? So maybe you've been to church before.

Maybe you haven't.

We're going to find out.

What happens at Christmas in a church.

So we will be looking at what is a church? What services are provided by churches? What are hymns? What are sermons? And then we've got our end of lesson quiz.

In this lesson, you will need an exercise book, a pencil, a coloured pen or pencil, so that you can tick or fix your answers, and most importantly, you need your ba ba ba, brain, well done.

If you need to get any of these things, now you can pause the video and go and grab them.

Well done.

Let's get started.

So here are our star words.

These are the important words that we're going to be using in this lesson.

So it's going to be my turn, then your turn.

I want you to tell your screen, are you ready? Hymns Singing Church Christian Bible Baby Services Bible, baby, do it faster.

Hymns, church, singing bible, Christians, services baby.

Good job.

Did you do it as fast as that? Well done.

So let's think about this question.

What is a church? Can you picture one in your head? So a church is a building used for Christian worship for what? Christian worship, well done.

Let's see how well you were listening to that.

What is a church? A church is a building used for worship.

Pick up your pencils.

You are going to write the sentence down and fill in the gap.

Pause the video, have a go at that now.

Okay, great.

Now pick up your coloured, pencil or pen.

We are going to tick or fix.

So we're going to check whether the answer is right.

And if it's not right, we're going to fix it.

So a church is a building used for Christian worship.

If you wrote the word, Christian, give yourself a tick.

And give yourself a tick if you put a full stop at the end of your sentence.

Amazing.

Now, if you didn't write Christian, don't worry.

You can pause the video now and correct your answer using your coloured pen.

Well done.

So now we're going to look at different services which are provided at churches, which some Christians may attend.

So first, Christians, some Christians, go to church to pray in God's house.

And when Christians pray, they can be speaking directly to God.

They can thank him for that guidance.

And sometimes they can even ask for help when they have a problem or sometimes ask for forgiveness, if they have made a bad choice.

Let's watch a quick video about Christian prayer and how they might speak to God.

That was really interesting, wasn't it? How different everyone's prayer might be.

Now, something else they might do at church is people sing hymns together to remember Jesus.

Now guess what, we are going to watch another video about singing hymns within a church? Now, another service that is performed at a church is a marriage.

So lots of people might get married at a church if they are Christian.

And we know that weddings are a wonderful, wonderful event to have.

So that's when people are married for life, then sadly, on the opposite side of weddings, we sometimes have funerals at church.

If you're a Christian, sometimes you might have a funeral at a church, where we say goodbye to the person that has died and we celebrate their life.

The wonderful life that they have had.

Another service at a church is a sermon.

This is when someone gives a speech at a church based on a passage from the Bible.

So they're reading a certain part from the Bible and talking about it.

So a sermon is when someone gives a speech at the church about a part from the Bible.

Now, in your books, I would like you to draw a picture.

So draw these pictures, you can see here and label them with each church service.

So you're going to write down underneath what it is.

Is it worship God? Is it hymns? Is it a sermon? Or is it a marriage? Pause the video.

Have a go at that now.

Well done.

So the first one is worship God.

Then we have got a sermon and then we've got hymns and lastly, we've got marriage or a wedding, you could have said that too.

Well done.

Give yourself ticks if you got those right.

Amazing.

Well done.

You've worked really, really hard today, learning about the different services that are at church is provided by churches.

Now, if you would like to share your work with us, you can ask your parent or carer to take a picture of your work and they can share it on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, tagging @OakNational and using the hashtag #LearnwithOak.
