The question we're going to be exploring in today's lesson is where do Christians worship? In today's lesson, the structure is going to look like this.

We're going to first look at the star words.

Then we're going to understand what worship means for Christians.

We're going to think about what is happening inside a church.

We're going to look across at different famous churches in England.

And finally, we're going to finish off by looking at the features of a church.

You will need a piece of paper, a pen, and your brain, because you're going to be doing a lot of new learning in today's lesson.

On the screen, you can see the star words for today's lesson.

I will be explaining these star words in more detail throughout the lesson.

Let's start by saying them out loud using, my turn, your turn.

Worship.

Church.

Sabbath.

Hymns.

Summon.

Cathedral.

Nave.

Pulpit.

Font.

And lectern.

Wow, good job.

Some of those words I know are quite tricky, so well done for doing my turn, your turn with me.

Like in all other religions, worship is very important in the Christian way of life.

Worship means you are showing God that you adore God and that you believe that God is the greatest.

Now Christians can worship anywhere.

Where can they worship? Good, they can worship anywhere.

But a lot of Christians do come together publicly in a place called a church where they pray together.

Pause the video now to have a go at the task on the screen.

Remember that Christians can worship anywhere, but they also do do it together in a church, okay? So it's really important to remember that you can worship anywhere, whether that's at home, when you're outside, sitting on a tube, or even at the church.

They can worship anywhere.

Now people go to the church at any time, but Christians also gather on a Sunday in particular.

And this is because it is the Sabbath day.

My turn, your turn.

Sabbath day.

This is also known as the holy day, is also known as the holy day.

Good.

And on this day, Christians believe that they need to either rest or worship.

Pause the video now to complete the task on the screen.

How did you do this time? Did you get them all correct? Well done if you did.

I know you've got your thinking cap on and you're trying really hard to remember all the key facts.

Well done.

At the church, Christians will do a number of activities.

We are now going to go through each of these activities together.

Firstly, at the church, Christians will pray together.

Now we can use the symbol to help us remember this activity.

Christians will pray together.

Do the actions with me as we go along.

They will also sing hymns, okay? They will also sing hymns.

Good job.

Now they will also listen to sermons.

Sermons are teachings from the priest.

Sermons are, good job, teachings from the priest.

Christians will also hear readings from the Bible, okay? So they will also hear readings from the Bible.

And finally, they will also eat a small wafer of bread and drink a sip of wine.

We're now going to go through the actions one last time to help you remember all the activities that Christians might do at the church.

Number one, Christians will pray together.

Number two, they will sing hymns.

Number three, they will listen to sermons from the priest.

Number four, they will hear readings from the Bible.

Good job.

And finally, they will eat a wafer of bread and drink a sip of wine.

Good job team.

Now, what I would like you to do is fill in the missing blanks.

So some of the words are missing and you can use key words on the left-hand side to help you fill in the missing gaps.

Remember, you can also use your actions to help you remember the key words.

Pause the video now and complete this task on the screen.

How well did you do on finding the missing words? I bet you got the majority of the keywords correct? So really well done.

Now we're going to move on to the Eucharist.

My turn, your turn, that's quite a tricky word.

Eucharist.

Good job.

Now Eucharist is taking breads or wine at the church.

This is known as the, Eucharist.

Good job.

Is also known as the Lord's supper or taking communion.

So there are sometimes other key words used to describe taking the bread and wine at the church.

Now Christians do this because it helps Christians remember that Jesus died for their sins.

What does it help them remember? Good, that Jesus died for their sins.

Now, if you remember, this is from the Last Supper when Jesus gave bread and said it was his body and then gave wine and said it was his blood.

So this is the Last Supper before Jesus was crucified.

So this links to our previous lesson.

Some Christians believe that the bread and wine literally turns into the body and blood of Christ.

They believe that by eating it, they are showing faith in Christ and they are accepting him into their body.

Pause the video now to have a go at the task on the screen.

Remember to use the three key words at the bottom of the screen to help you.

You have Jesus, Eucharist, and wine as the three key words.

Now that you've completed your answer, can you share your answer out loud to me? So can you read the sentence from the beginning to the end? I'm listening.

Sounds great.

Now let's have a look at the answer.

So you might want to pause if you need a few seconds to tick or correct your answer.

Now we're going to move on to look at churches.

Churches come in all shapes and different sizes.

They come up in all? Good, all different shapes and sizes.

So some are very, very large, like the one on the left hand side of the screen, and these very large churches are called cathedrals.

My turn, your turn.

Cathedrals.

Good job.

On the left-hand side, you can see the Notre-Dame.

Do you know which city or what country you will find the Notre-Dame in? If you said France and Paris, you are correct, and you have incredible general knowledge.

The Notre-Dame can be found in Paris, which is a city in France.

Good job.

So very large churches are called cathedrals, but churches can also be smaller, like you can see on the right hand side.

They can be very, very old or they can be very, very modern and new.

I wonder if you've ever been inside a church or seen a church before? Pause the video now and complete the task on the screen.

Well done if you've got that question right.

Here are two famous churches in England.

Do you recognise them? Do you know where they are? Good.

Both of these churches are in London.

They are in London.

Good job.

On the left, you have Westminster Abbey.

This you might recognise from the time that Kate Middleton and Prince William got married.

Did you watch the ceremony? I know I definitely did, and I remember the church being so beautiful inside.

Another interesting fact about Westminster Abbey is that at Westminster Abbey monarchs are also coroneted here since William the Conqueror in 1066.

Do you know what coronation is? A coronation is a ceremony where a new king or queen are crowned, that is coronation.

Now on the right hand side, you can see St.

Paul's Cathedral.

My turn, your turn.

St.

Paul's Cathedral.

Good job.

An interesting fact about St.

Paul's Cathedral is that in 1666, the cathedral was damaged in the Great Fire of London.

Maybe you already know about the Great Fire of London.

The same pose that we see today was actually designed by famous architect called Sir Christopher Wren.

Who was it designed by? Sir Christopher Wren.

Good job, okay.

Now let's have a look at the design of churches.

On the screen, you can see a floor plan of a church.

Churches are often built so that they look like crosses when looked at from the sky.

Pause the video now to complete the task on the screen.

How did you do this time? Good effort.

I know you probably use your hands to remind yourself that they look like crosses when you look at them from above the sky.

We are now going to start looking at the features inside the churches.

You might be able to recognise some of these if you have been inside the church before.

Now, there are lots of common features of churches, which help the activities of the church.

The large area in the middle is called the nave.

It is called the, nave, good job.

So the key word is nave, and it is the middle.

It is the middle, good job.

Where people sit in the church is called the, nave.

Good job.

On the screen you can see there is a sentence with a missing key word.

Pause the video to fill in the missing word.

Try your best to get the spelling of the key word correct.

Well done if you've got the answer right, and double thumbs up if you've got the spelling correct as well.

Another feature inside a church is called a pulpit.

My turn, your turn.

Pulpit.

Good.

This is a raised booth, which means it's not on the ground, it is raised, where sermons, so remember we said, sermons are teachings.

Sermons are, teachings, good, from the priest.

These are where they are delivered from.

So the priests will stand there and deliver teachings to everyone who is at the church.

So let's remind ourselves the raised booth where summons or teachings from the priests are delivered is called a, pulpit.

Good job.

I would now like you to fill in the missing gap with the key word.

Please try your best to remember the spelling as well.

You should have written pulpit for the key word for this answer.

Another feature inside the church is a font.

My turn, your turn.

Font.

Good.

Fonts is a special bowl, which is filled with holy water for baptisms. It is filled with, good, holy water.

Now I remember this one because font for me reminds me of fountain and a fountain gives water.

So I use the word fountain to help me remember a font is where the holy water is kept.

So you can use that trick to help you remember this key word.

Fill in the missing gap in the sentence on the screen.

Did you use my trick to remember? Well done if you got this correct.

Another feature of a church is called a lectern.

My turn, your turn.

Lectern.

A lectern holds the Bible for people to read from it aloud.

So what does it hold? Good job.

It holds the Bible so that people can read aloud from it.

Fill in the missing gap in the sentence on the screen.

Make sure you pause the video to do that.

Okay, and your answer should have been lectern.

It is now time for you to complete a task.

Match the key words to the correct picture.

Pause the video now to complete this activity.

Here are the answers.

Did you match them correctly? I hope you enjoyed today's lesson as much as I did.

It is now time for you to complete the end of lesson quiz.

Bye everyone.
