Hi everyone, I'm Miss Harris, and welcome to today's RE lesson.

We are going to be looking at this question, why did the three wise men share gifts with baby Jesus? Let's have a look at what we're going to be doing as well, so we are first going to look at what is incarnation, what does it mean? We're going to look at who were the three wise men, look at where their gifts came from, and the importance of each gift, and then we've got our end of lesson quiz.

Now you will need an exercise book, a pencil, a coloured pencil, and most importantly, your brain.

If you don't have any of these things, now's the time to pause the video and go and get them now, especially your brain, if you've forgotten it and left it in the other room.

Okay, let's begin.

So let's practise our star words.

These are the important words that we are going to be using this lesson, so it's important that we practise saying them.

Are you ready? Incarnation, Christian, gifts, gold, myrrh, church, frankincense.

Great job.

Now think about this question, what is incarnation? Have you heard of that word before? That's okay if you haven't, we're going to learn about it now.

So incarnation is linked to the birth of Jesus.

The birth of who? Jesus.

Incarnation is when a god takes a human form.

That means that they are a person standing in front of you, able to stand in front of you.

In Christianity, this is believed to have happened to God when he came to Earth as Jesus.

Jesus is believed to be the son of God.

And Jesus is part of God.

He is both God and human.

Now how did this happen? Angel Gabriel, the angel of the Lord, appeared in Joseph's dream, and told him that Mary will be pregnant with the son of God.

He will be called Jesus.

What is incarnation again? It's when a God takes a human form.

What type of form? A human form.

That means remember, that they can stand in front of us, they are a person.

Now in your books, I would like you to pick up your pencil, and I would like you to write this sentence down.

Incarnation is when God takes a form.

Pause the video and write that sentence, filling in the gap.

Well done, now pick up your coloured pencil, because we're going to tick or fix.

That means we are going to give ourselves a tick if we wrote the correct word in the gap, or if we didn't get it right, we're going to fix it.

So let's see.

Incarnation is when a god takes human form.

Give yourself a tick if you got that right, and if you didn't, don't worry, you can pause the video and write the word human.

Lovely.

Now there are three wise men.

How many? Their names are Caspar, can you say that word, that name? Caspar, say it one more time.

Then we've got Melchior.

Can you say that word? Good.

And the last one, Balthazar.

Can you say that? Great, now there were three wise men who brought gifts to baby Jesus when he was laying in the manger.

I would like you to write the names of three wise men.

You can also draw a picture of the three wise men if you want to, and write their names underneath.

Pause the video, have a go at that now.

Great job.

Now we've got a pause point.

A pause point is when I'm going to ask you a question, and I'd like you to think about what the answer is going to be.

You can pause the video, and you can think about the question, and then play the video again, if you want time to think.

Otherwise, let's think.

What is incarnation? It's when God take a form.

It's when God takes a human form, well done.

Now we're going to take a look at what gifts did they give Jesus? So can you remember what three gifts there were? There was gold, f f f frankincense, and m myrrh, well done.

The first one is frankincense.

Frankincense comes from a tree.

It's a type of perfume from trees, and it's used to worship the king.

It's used for worshipping in churches.

It's used for worshipping , good.

And it came from a t t t tree, great job.

Then we've got myrrh.

Myrrh is a type of oil from trees, as well.

And it's often used when someone dies, to help them smell nice.

So it's a type of oil, good, and it comes from a t t t tree, and it's used to help someone smell nice, well done.

Then we've got gold, the last gift.

Gold is a precious metal, which can be mined from the ground, and it is a sign of royalty and wealth.

If someone has lots of gold, you might think they're really wealthy, really rich.

Or they might be really royal.

So our royal family, you might often see them wearing gold, because it's a sign of royalty.

Now using your finger, can you remember where each gift came from? So look at the picture, and draw a line, an imaginary line with your finger, to where it came from.

Pause the video, have a go at that now.

Great job.

Let's take a look at the answers now.

So gold is mined from the ground.

Frankincense is from a tree, and myrrh is a special oil from the tree.

So what do some Christians use frankincense for? Frankincense is used for.

So down here, there are some words.

We've got royalty, nice, and worshipping.

Can you choose a word that fits in the sentence above? So frankincense is used for.

Is it used for royalty? Is it used for nice? Does that make sense? Is it used for worshipping ? Pause the video and write that sentence down now, filling in the gap, choosing one of these words.

Pick up your coloured pencil now, and let's check whether we got the right answer.

So frankincense is used for worshipping.

Did you get that right? You did, well done, give yourself a tick.

If you didn't, don't worry.

You can pause the video now, and put a nice neat line through the word that you chose, and write the word worshipping.

Frankincense is used for worshipping.

Let's have a look at the next one.

So what do some Christians use myrrh for? So myrrh can be used to help dead bodies to smell.

So remember, choose a word from down here, and write it in the gap in this sentence.

Myrrh can be used to help dead bodies to smell.

Pause the video, have a go at writing that sentence now, filling in the blank.

Well done, let's check whether we got the answer right.

So myrrh can be used to help dead bodies to smell nice.

Give yourself a tick if you got that right, if you didn't, don't worry, put a nice neat line through it, and write the word nice above it.

Pause the video and fix your sentence now.

Great work.

Now this is the last one.

What do some Christians use gold for? Gold is a sign of.

Choose one of these words, copy the sentence, and fill in the gap.

Pause the video, have a go at that now.

Now it's time to take a fix.

Pick up your coloured pencil or pen.

Gold is a sign of royalty.

Did you get that right? If you did, give yourself a tick.

If you didn't, don't worry, you can pause the video and make your corrections now.

Great, so gold is a sign of royalty.

You have worked so hard today, well done.

Should we do something called a rainbow chair? Have you ever heard of that before? You haven't? Well you need to put your hands out like this.

We're going to make a rainbow with our hands, and we're going to make this sound, we're going to go ah.

Ready? So hands like this, ready.

Ah, and you've made a rainbow.

Shall we do it one more time? Ready, ah.

Great job.

Now if you would like to share your work with us, you can ask your parent or carer to share a picture of it on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, tagging Oak National and using the hashtag LearnwithOak.

You have worked really hard today, and I am looking forward to seeing you next time.

Have a great rest of your day.

Bye.
