Hello, my name is Mrs. Holborow and welcome to Computing.
I'm so pleased you've decided to join me for the lesson today.
In today's lesson, we're going to be using your storyboards to create your videos, and we're going to be looking at how we can make improvements to a video.
Welcome to today's lesson from the unit "Video Production." This lesson is called, "Importing and Editing Video." And by the end of today's lesson, you'll be able to identify that a video can be improved through reshooting and editing.
Shall we make a start? We will be exploring these keywords throughout today's lesson.
Import.
Import.
Copying a file or data into a programme from a different programme.
Reshoot.
Reshoot.
Filming a video again.
Trim.
Trim.
Shortening the length of a video.
Slice.
Slice.
Dividing a clip into two or more pieces.
Look out for these keywords throughout today's lesson.
Today's lesson is broken up into two parts.
We'll start by creating a video based on your storyboard, and then we'll move on to explain how to improve video.
Let's make a start by creating a video using your storyboard.
Now that you have completed your storyboard, you will use it to create your videos.
When you create your videos, you'll need to make sure that they match your storyboard.
So, does the filming technique match the storyboard? And does the audio match the script? Think carefully about these two questions whilst you're recording your videos.
Once you have recorded your video clips, you'll need to import them into the video editing software ready to edit or improve them.
To do this, you need to open, OpenShot Video Editor, and you can do this by going to oak.
link/openshot.
Let's watch this video to see how to import your videos into the editing software and save your project.
We click on import files, we go to the video we've recorded, and then it will appear in the file section of the software.
We can then click on Save project and give the project a suitable name.
Time to check your understanding.
We've got a fill in the gaps activity here.
I'm going to read the sentences and then you can pause your video and think about what might go into the gaps.
First, you need to plan your videos using a.
You can use a storyboard to plan the filming techniques you will use and write the.
When you are ready to record your videos, you need to make sure the filming techniques you use and the you record match the storyboard.
Use the words provided to fill in the gaps.
How did you get on? Did you manage to fill in the gaps correctly? Let's have a look at the answers together.
First, you need to plan your videos using a "storyboard." You can use a storyboard to plan the filming techniques you will use and write the "script." When you're ready to record your videos, you'll need to make sure that the filming techniques you use and the "audio" you record match the storyboard.
Did you get all of those correct? Well done.
Let's have a go at another fill in the gaps activity.
Once you have planned your videos, you can record them and them on your device to watch or edit later.
You can your videos into video editing software to edit them.
Remember to your project as an OpenShot project so that you can edit it in the future.
Use the words provided to fill in the gaps.
Pause the video here whilst you have a go.
How did you get on? Did you manage to fill in the gaps correctly? Great work.
Let's have a look at the sample answer together.
Once you have planned your videos, you can record them and "save" them on your device to watch or edit later.
You can "import" your videos into video editing software to edit them.
Remember to "save" your project as an OpenShot project so you can edit it in the future.
Okay, we're moving on to our first lesson task of today's lesson, and it's now time for you to record your videos.
You have 30 minutes to record your video clips.
Use your storyboard to help you.
Here are the steps you need to complete to record your video.
1.
Record a video.
Make sure that the video is saved as you'll need to use it in the future.
2.
Repeat this process until all of your shots are recorded and saved.
You can then import your videos into the photo editing software and save your project.
Once you've done that, I've got some questions for you on the next slide.
But pause the video here first and record your video clips.
How did you get on recording your video clips? Did it all go to plan? Great work.
I've now got some questions for you based on the videos you've recorded.
What did you find easy about making your videos? What did you find difficult about making your videos? And lastly, what was the most valuable lesson that you learned? Pause the video here whilst you answer the questions.
How did you get on with the questions? Let's have a look at a sample answer together.
Jacob says, "I found it easy to record most of my videos.
It was tricky to record some of the shots on my own, so I asked a friend for help.
The most valuable thing that I learned was how to import the videos into the editing software.
As it's free to use, I'll be able to see if my dad can instal it at home.
I love editing videos." That's a great sample answer, Jacob.
Well done.
Okay, you've done a fantastic job so far to record your videos.
We're now going to move on to explain how to improve a video.
Once you have added your videos into the video editing software, you can make improvements where needed.
If you're not happy with some of your videos, you may be able to fix them using editing tools.
If you can't fix your video using the editing tools, you may need to record the video again.
This is called reshooting.
Editing tools.
You can make changes to a video using video editing software.
Most video editing software has the following tools, trim, slice, and reorder.
Or, you could reshoot the video.
Sometimes the changes needed may mean that reshooting a video is actually easier and quicker than editing it.
Let's have a look at trim.
You can trim the start or end of a video clip to delete any unwanted footage.
For example, if it took you a few seconds to get started with your sentence, you may want to trim out the first part of the video, or at the end, if you move towards the camera to turn it off, you might want to trim that off too.
Slice.
You can slice a video to split it into multiple parts.
You can then choose which parts you want to keep or which parts you may want to delete.
Reorder.
You can reorder clips on the timeline to put them in a different order.
So you can see here we've swapped clip three and clip two around.
Reshoot.
Remember, if your video can't be improved using the editing tools or the editing process will take too long, you might want to consider reshooting the video clip altogether.
Time to check your understanding.
Which tool would you use in this scenario? The scenes have been filmed in the wrong order.
Is it A, reshoot, B, reorder, or C, slice? Pause the video whilst you have a think.
Did you select B, reorder? Well done.
The scenes have been filmed in the wrong order, so we can reorder them into the order we want in the final video.
Let's have a look at another scenario.
There's too much background noise.
You can't hear what's being said.
Would we use A, slice, B, trim, or C, reshoot? Pause the video whilst you have a think.
Did you select C? Well done.
Slice or trimming the video is not going to make improvements to the audio, so we're going to have to reshoot the video here.
This time the video is too long.
Would we A, use slice, B, reshoot, or C, trim? Pause the video whilst you have a think.
Did you select C, trim? Well done.
We can trim the video down if it's too long and make it shorter.
This time the scenario is that the lighting is poor.
Would we A, reshoot, B, reorder, or C, trim? Pause the video whilst you have a think.
Did you select A, reshoot? Well done.
Reordering or trimming the video isn't going to improve the lighting.
Final one.
The speaker sneezes in the middle of the sentence, but otherwise the clip is okay.
Could we A, trim the video, B, reshoot the video, or C, slice the video? Pause the video whilst you have a think.
Did you select C, slice? Well done.
We just need to cut out the bit where the speaker sneezes in the middle of the video.
The rest of it's okay.
Okay, we're moving on to our second set of tasks for today's lesson.
I'd like you to watch the video of rain and thunder, and then I'd like you to use these words to suggest how you could improve it.
So the words are trim, slice, reorder, and reshoot.
I'm going to play the video now so watch it carefully and then pause this video whilst you complete the activity.
(rain pattering) (person coughing) (thunder rumbling) (rain pattering) (thunder rumbling) How did you get on? Did you manage to see how you could improve the rain and thunder video? Let's have a look at a sample answer from Jacob.
"This video has a long cough in the middle.
I could try to trim it, but I think that would make the video a little jumpy.
I think overall I would reshoot the video because it's also very dark." Did you have something similar? I'd now like you to watch the video of "My School Day." Again, use these words to suggest how you could improve it, trim, slice, reorder, and reshoot.
I'm going to play the video clip now.
Watch it carefully and then pause the video whilst you have a go at your answer.
(people chattering) (utensils clanging) (engine humming) (students chattering) <v Teacher>Okay, you're all done now.
Thank you.
</v> (objects clattering) (students chattering) How did you get on? Did you manage to see how you would improve the video? Let's have a look at Jacob's sample answer again.
"This video is in the wrong order.
I would reorder it so that it starts with the bus ride, followed by lessons, and then the school dinners.
The bus ride is very long.
I would trim that clip as there's not much to see.
I also think that more videos need adding to the end to show things like more lessons and home time." That's a great sample answer.
Well done, Jacob.
Okay, we've come to the end of today's lesson importing and editing video.
And you've done a great job, so well done.
Let's summarise what we've learned together during today's lesson.
You can import video recordings into video editing software to edit them.
You can use different editing tools to make different changes to your videos.
Sometimes it is quicker and easier to reshoot a video.
I hope you've enjoyed today's lesson, and I hope you join me again soon.
Bye!.
