In this unit, pupils studied the efforts that different groups in American society made to gain equality. In 'Cold War origins: what led to the breakdown of the 'Grand Alliance'?', pupils will study the events that led to the outbreak of the Cold War.

In 'USA Society: how far did American society change after WW2?', pupils considered the impact that WW2 had on the American people, the economy and their relationship with different ideologies. In 'USA Civil Rights: how successful was the American civil rights movement?', pupils will study the efforts that different groups in American society made to gain equality.

In this unit, pupils evaluate the success of the American Civil Rights movement from 1950 to 1973. They learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and direct action, the Black Power movement, feminism in the 1960s and 1970s, and the social legislation of the time.
