A net is a 2D representation of the faces of a 3D shape, that can be folded up into the 3D object.

In the prior unit pupils compared the size of angles with a clear visual difference and use the terms acute obtuse and reflex when describing the size of angles or amount of rotation with relation to right angles using a unit called degrees In this unit pupils will use knowledge of shape properties to draw, sketch and identify shapes

It is possible for a 3D shape to have more than one net.

Net a would form a triangular prism but net b would not. 

Net b would form a triangular prism but net a would not.

Both nets would form a triangular prism. 

Which of these are nets for a triangular prism? 

Look carefully at the net of the cube. Match the letters so that opposite faces of the cube are together. 

This is a net for a dice. Which face would have 2 spots?

Match the shape to the correct number of sides.

Which of these could be the net of a cube?

Which 2D shapes would be required to form the net of a cylinder? 

This is a pentagonal prism. It would need two pentagons in its net. How many rectangles would it need?

Nothing. It is already the net of a triangular prism. 

What needs to happen to this net to make it the net of a triangular prism?
