Hi there.
Welcome to your lesson.
Today's Remote Learning lesson is on an introduction to target games and our title today of our lesson is called Accuracy: Can you kick and roll a ball accurately towards a target?
My name's Miss Hacking and I'm really looking forward to being your teacher today.
So for this lesson, you are going to need some equipment.
You're going to need an object to kick or roll.
This could be maybe a small ball that's soft if you're playing inside the house or if you don't have a ball, maybe you could roll up a pair of socks and use that instead.
You're also going to need five targets per person.
These could be soft toys, shoes, or books for example, or anything that you have lying around.
And you may also need a timer, which you could use maybe a smartphone, a stopwatch, or a clock to time yourself.
By the end of today's lesson, I'm hoping that we can all kick and roll accurately to score points and beat an opponent.
Our keywords today.
Let's do my turn, your turn.
My turn: accuracy.
Your turn.
So accuracy is how close you get to the target when you throw or aim.
Our second keyword today, my turn: kick.
Your turn.
So kick means striking or propelling a ball or another object with your foot.
And our final keyword today is, my turn: roll.
Your turn.
So roll is when a ball moves by turning over and over along the ground.
So you might have rolled a ball before.
Now, before we complete our lesson, we need to make sure our body is ready for exercise.
So we need to warm up our bodies.
For our warmup, you're going to show what you know about rolling and kicking a ball accurately.
So I'd like you to set up two cushions, one as your starting marker and one as a target to aim for.
Roll the ball from behind the starting marker, which is the cushion, and aim to hit the other cushion.
Walk to collect the ball and then gently kick the ball back to the first cushion.
And I'd like you to repeat this 10 times.
Challenge yourself to beat your previous score.
So if you manage to hit it accurately the first time, see if you can do that the second time.
But also if you don't hit it accurately, that's okay.
Try and beat it the next time.
And could you change where the cushions are placed?
So maybe you start off quite close together so it's quite easy, but actually if you're finding it too easy, then maybe you want to spread the cushions out a little bit to make it a bit harder for you.
Now, there is a video showing next if you're a bit unsure of how to complete this warmup.
So watch the video, then pause and have a go yourself.
So today's lesson is split into two parts.
In the first part of today's lesson, you're going to roll the ball to score points.
And in the second part of today's lesson, you're going to kick the ball to score points.
Are you ready?
Let's get started.
So today, Alex is working by himself and Aisha is working with her friend Jun.
They're working on rolling and kicking accurately and will use rolled up socks as their ball.
In today's lesson there is going to be some competition and we'll be trying to score points.
Alex says that "Rolling accurately requires using the correct technique, helping us to score points.
" And he's right.
Whenever we do a skill, we need to try and use the correct technique in order to score more points.
And Aisha said that "self-belief helps us to focus and try our best, even if our opponent is winning.
" So yes, we need the good technique like Alex said, but like Aisha said as well, we also need to have that self-belief that we are able to do this and keep focusing, even if we are finding something quite hard.
So to accurately roll a ball, you need to get low by bending your knees, use a gentle controlled push.
So we don't want to roll the ball too hard, otherwise it might not hit our target.
Keep your eyes on the target.
So whatever you are aiming for as you are rolling, try and keep your eyes on that target.
And point your hand and body towards the target to help the ball roll straight.
Okay, let's have a quick go at a check.
Where should your eyes be looking when you roll a ball towards a target?
Would it be A: at the ball?
Would it be B: at the target?
Or would it be C: at the screen?
Well done if you said B, at the target.
When you're trying to roll accurately, it's really important that your eyes are focused on the target so you are more likely to roll accurately towards that target.
So Jun and Aisha have set up two targets in a gate for their partner to roll the ball through.
Every time someone rolls the ball through a gate, they get a point and that gate can then be moved.
This sounds like a fun game.
Jun said that "Knowing where to aim, in order to beat an opponent, requires concentration.
" And Aisha said that, "Yes, it's important to aim at the target, so make sure your hand finishes pointing towards it.
" So wherever your gate is, make sure your hand finishes pointing towards that gate, just to help your accuracy.
Alex, remember, is playing by himself today.
So he puts down two targets to make a gate.
He sets a timer for five minutes and counts how many points he can score in the five minutes.
Each time he rolls the ball through the gate, he can move the gate.
So he gets a point every time he accurately rolls a ball through his gate and he's seeing how many gates he can collect in five minutes.
Alex then tries to beat his score by playing again for five minutes.
So maybe in the first five minutes, he scored 10 points.
So that means in the second five minutes, he might try and score at least 10 points.
Alex said that, "Following the instructions of a game and playing by the rules shows fairness.
" And that's important even if you're playing by yourself, that you should always follow the rules and not cheat, to make sure that you're playing with fairness.
And Aisha agrees with me.
And she says that, "Yes, this is important when you're playing by yourself or you're playing with someone else.
" Okay, let's have a go at a check.
True or false?
If you are not winning, you should change the rules of the game to make it easier to win.
What do you think?
True or false?
That's false.
Can you tell me why?
So I'm hoping that you said something along the lines of, "It's important to show fairness by following the rules of the game, even if you are not winning.
" So it's important that you keep trying, you show that self-belief and you keep following the rules, even if you are not winning.
We don't change the rules just to suit whether we are winning or not.
So well done if you got that right.
Okay, now it's your turn to have a go at a task.
So if you're working with a partner today, this is going to be your Task A.
Start with one ball each and set up two targets, which could be books or toys or cushions, for example.
Create a small gate for your partner to roll their ball through.
Place a marker to show where you must roll from and take turns rolling your ball to try and get it through your partner's gate.
If you get it through the gate, you score one point and your partner moves the gate to a new place.
Keep going and see how many points you can score in five minutes.
Maybe you'll get more points than your partner.
But if you're working by yourself today, this is the Task A I would like you to complete.
You're going to set up two targets, which could be books, toys, or cushions, for example.
Create a small gate to roll your ball through and place a cone or marker to show where you must roll from.
Roll your ball and try to get it through the gate.
If you get it through, you score one point and you move your gate to a new spot.
See how many points you can score in five minutes.
Repeat the challenge and try to beat your first score.
There is a video showing next of how to complete this task if you're a little bit unsure, but I'm sure your rolling is going to be really accurate through the gates.
Okay, let's reflect on Task A.
Move: rolling accurately requires using the correct technique, helping us to score points.
And Alex said that, "I rolled the ball accurately through the gate which helped me score points.
" And I hope you used the correct technique too, in order to be more accurate.
Think: knowing where to aim in order to beat an opponent requires concentration.
Aisha said, "I concentrated by pointing my arm towards a gap in the gate so I could beat my opponent.
" And did you show concentration today?
You would've needed to if you were being accurate with your rolling.
Feel: self-belief helps us to focus and try our best, even if our opponent is winning.
And Alex said, "I used self-belief to keep going, even when I didn't do as well the second time.
" Did you?
Did you keep going even if you found it hard or you missed your gate?
And connect: following the instructions of a game and playing by the rules shows fairness.
And Aisha said that, "I followed the rules of the game by only counting points when my ball rolled through the gates.
" And I hope you did that too.
Okay, now it's time for the second part of today's lesson, kick the ball to score points.
So another way to move the ball accurately along the floor is by kicking it.
And Alex said that "Kicking using the correct technique requires accuracy and control.
" And he's right.
So to accurately kick the ball or rolled up socks, stand with your non-kicking foot next to the ball.
Look at where you want the ball to go.
Swing your kicking foot to hit the middle of the ball.
Keep your eyes on the ball as you kick, as you might not go straight if you look up before you finish.
And follow through with your leg to help the ball go straight.
So follow through towards the target that you're aiming for so that your ball goes straight.
Okay, let's have a go at a check.
Show me where your kicking leg should finish after kicking the ball.
Well done if you followed through with your leg to help the ball go straight and towards the target.
So I'm hoping that you showed me your leg following through towards the target you're aiming for.
So Jun and Aisha have set up five targets in the shape of a triangle.
They take turns to kick the ball and try to hit the targets in their partner's triangle.
They have both marked a line that they have to stay behind when they kick the ball.
So scoring: If Jun hits the target nearest to him, he would score one point.
If he hits either of the two middle targets, he scores two points, and if he hits the furthest targets, he would score three points, and that would be the same for Aisha on Jun's targets as well.
So this might need a little bit of tactical thinking about which targets they want to go for in order to score the most points.
Aisha said, "To make sure I kick accurately, I'm going to follow through with my foot and point it towards a target.
" And that's what we needed to remember from earlier as well.
So make sure that your foot follows through towards the target you are aiming for.
Alex has set up five targets in the shape of a triangle.
He kicks the ball accurately at the targets, trying to collect as many points as he can in five minutes.
He has to kick the ball from behind the line.
He then has another go so he can try and beat his first score.
And again, his points are as follows.
If he hits the nearest target, he gets one point.
If he hits either of the two middle targets, he gets two points.
And if he hits the furthest targets, he gets three points.
So he's going to count how many points he can score in five minutes.
Alex says, "It's important to keep score accurately and play the rules to show fairness.
And Aisha said, "Yes, this is important when you're playing by yourself or playing with someone else.
" And like we talked about earlier with the rolling game, whether you're playing by yourself, or whether you're playing with someone else, if you are playing a game, you need to follow the rules to make sure that you're playing fairly and not cheating.
Alex says, "It's also important to use the right amount of power to make our kicks accurate.
" And Aisha said, "Yes, this is important to accurately hit the targets and so we don't damage anything in the house if we're playing inside.
" So if we don't use enough power, we might not hit the targets effectively.
But equally, if we use too much power, then we might hit something in the house that could get damaged.
So it's really important that we might practice using the right amount of power so that we are not taking too big a backswing on our kicks or kicking the ball out of control.
We want to show accuracy and control in today's lesson.
So Alex has agreed with us and said, "So our kicks will not require too much power.
" Okay, let's have a go at a check.
How can you show fairness?
Would it be A: keeping score accurately?
Would it be B: taking extra turns?
Or would it be C: lying about your score?
What do you think?
Well done if you said A, keeping score accurately shows fairness.
Okay, now it's your turn to have a go at the second task of today's lesson.
So the second task is if you are working with a partner, both of you need to make a triangle with five targets, which could be books, toys, or cushions.
Take turns kicking the ball towards your partner's targets.
And if you hit the target nearest to you, you get one point.
If you hit either of the middle targets, you get two points, and if you hit the furthest two targets, you get three points.
Play for five minutes and see how many points you can score against your partner.
And if you're working by yourself today, make a triangle with five targets.
Again, you can use books, toys, or cushions.
Try to kick the ball towards your targets.
And again, the scoring is similar, if you hit the nearest target, so on here it would be the purple target, you would get one point.
If you hit either of the two middle targets, which on here is demonstrated by the pink targets, you would get two points.
And if you hit either of the the two furthest away targets which are shown on here as green, you would get three points.
And your aim is to see how many points you can score in five minutes.
And then you might want to try again to see if you can beat your first score a second time when you've practiced a bit more.
Now there is a video showing now of how you complete this task.
So watch the video and then pause and have a go at this task.
I think your kicks are going to be really accurate.
And let's reflect on our Task B then.
So Move: kicking using the correct technique requires accuracy and control.
And Alex said that "I kicked the ball accurately towards the targets and managed to score some points.
" Did you?
Were you accurate with your kicking and you managed to knock over some of the targets?
Well done if you did.
And Think: knowing where to aim in order to beat an opponent requires concentration.
And Aisha said that "I concentrated by focusing on the target I wanted to kick the ball towards.
" Did you?
Did you focus on the target you were aiming for?
Did that help with your accuracy of your kicking?
Feel: self-belief helps us to focus and try our best, even if our opponent is winning.
And Alex said he used self-belief to keep going even when he didn't do as well the second time.
And did you?
Did you find that if you missed a target, you kept going and you showed that self-belief to have another go and try and kick accurately?
And finally, Connect: following the instructions of a game and playing by the rules shows fairness.
And Aisha said that, "I followed the rules of the game by adding up my points accurately.
" And I hope you did too.
I hope you stuck to the rules of the game and only added points when you hit the correct target.
Okay, before we finish today's lesson, I think it's important that we do a cool down together.
So for this cool down, you're going to create a target in your space.
I'd like you to walk slowly around the space.
Every five seconds, stop still and roll or kick the ball or rolled up socks towards the target from wherever you stopped in space.
Whilst you're moving slowly within your space, think about how you were successful when using an accurate roll or kick and which actions were more controlled.
And what could you do between now and the next lesson to practice your skills further?
Okay, that gives us just enough time left to summarize today's lesson.
So Move: kicking using the correct technique requires accuracy and control.
Rolling accurately requires using the correct technique, helping us to score points.
So it's important that we show accuracy and control when kicking and rolling.
Think: knowing where to aim in order to beat an opponent requires concentration.
So we all concentrated really hard today to make sure that we had those accurate kicks and rolls.
Feel: self-belief enables us to focus and try our best, even if our opponent is winning, especially if we are not playing as well as we thought we might, or if we miss a target.
It's really important to show that self-belief and keep going, having another go to make sure that you keep improving.
And finally Connect: following the instructions of a game and playing by the rules shows fairness, so you're playing with someone else or whether you're playing by yourself, it's always important to play by the rules.
Now I've really enjoyed being your teacher today and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another target games lesson.
