Welcome to your next remote learning lesson on target games.

My name's Ms. Hacking, and I'm really looking forward to being your teacher today.

Today's lesson is called Accuracy: can you complete different golf challenges applying accurate rolling?

So for this lesson, you're going to need some equipment.

So you're going to need an object to throw or roll, which could be a ball or a rolled up pair of socks.

You're going to need at least nine items that can be used as obstacles.

So this could be a book, items of clothing, shoes.

And you're going to also need some paper, and a pencil or a pen.

So you might want to pause the video now to go and get the equipment you need ready for today's lesson.

I'm hoping that by the end of today's lesson, we can all use accurate rolling skills to complete the challenges in as few shots as possible.

So today's keywords.

Let's do my turn, your turn.

My turn, rolling.

Your turn.

So rolling means pushing the ball with our hands towards a target.

Our second keyword, and this is very specific to golf.

My turn, tee off.

Your turn.

So tee off is a place where you make your first shot.

This is particularly relevant in golf.

When they do their first hit, it's called a tee off.

Third keyword, my turn, self-motivation.

Your turn.

So self-motivation is the ability to push yourself to take action and keep working toward a goal without needing external help.

Self-motivation.

I wonder how self-motivated you're going to be in today's lesson.

So before we start today's lesson, it's important that we all complete our warmup, so that our body is ready for exercise.

So you're going to show what you know about rolling accurately.

So for this warmup, I'd like you to place different targets in spaces around the room, using cuddly toys, books or cushions as examples of targets.

You can move around these with a ball or rolled up socks in your hand.

You could hold the ball still, or you might want to throw the ball up and down to yourself to make it a little bit harder.

Stop still every 10 seconds, and from wherever you are standing, try and hit one of the targets by rolling the ball accurately towards a target.

Challenge yourself to hit all the targets at least once.

Try to hit the targets that are not close to you, so the ones that are a bit further away.

And could you change which hand you roll the object with?

So I'm right-handed, so I always like to roll with my right hand.

But could you have a go at practicing with your other hand too?

There's a video showing next, showing how to complete the warmup if you're a little bit unsure.

Once you've watched the video, pause this so you can complete the warmup by yourself.

Okay.

Today's lesson is split into two parts.

The first part is going to be rolling golf, and the second part is going to be rolling crazy golf.

This sounds like a fun lesson today.

Let's get started.

So Aisha loves watching golf, and has decided to create her own rolling golf course at home.

She uses an object, for example, a book, to mark where she tees off to start the game.

She then tries to get the ball in the hole using as few shots or rolls as possible.

She says that, "I'm going to roll the ball as I'm playing inside.

I'm going to work on rolling with the correct technique and the right power to create accurate shots.

" That sounds like a good plan, Aisha.

So to accurately roll the ball, get low by bending your knees.

Use a gentle, controlled push.

So we're not trying to roll the ball too hard.

Keep your eyes on the target.

So make sure you're looking at the target as you roll the ball so the ball is going to be more accurate.

And point your hands and body towards the target so the ball rolls straight.

This will help us be more accurate.

Where should you roll the ball from?

Up high, your chest, or low down?

Which answer do you think is correct?

Well done if you said low down.

So when we're rolling, we need to bend our knees and get as low as possible to roll the ball accurately with the correct amount of power.

Well done if you said C, low down.

Aisha uses a book to mark where she will tee off from to start the game.

She uses a plastic cup on its side as the hole where she is aiming for.

She wants to get the ball in the hole in as few shots or rolls as possible.

So in this example, it looks like she did it in one roll.

Jacob's asked, "What else could you use as a hole to aim into?

" And you could use shoes or wellies, a plastic bowl on its side, or a sauce pan, or maybe you can think of something even more interesting to aim your roll into.

In golf, the aim is to hit the ball into the hole using as many shots as possible.

Yes, that's false.

Can you tell me why?

It's false because you want to get the ball in the hole in the least amount of shots when playing golf.

So you're trying to do it in as few shots as possible, not as many shots as possible.

So well done if you said that.

Aisha said, "I'm unsure how I'm going to remember my score.

" But Jacob said, "It can be hard to keep score in golf games, so I'm going to say my shot number after each roll and write down my score when I get the ball in the hole.

" Especially if we're going to be playing with more than one hole, it's important that after each hole, we write down how many rolls it took us to get into that hole.

Okay.

Now it's your turn to have a go at the task.

Today's task is rolling golf.

So you're going to make nine different holes in different places around your home or garden.

You're going to start at the tee off marker, and count how many rolls it takes to get your ball or pair of socks into each hole.

You can use other items, such as a pan or shoe, to act as a hole.

You can only take your next turn when the ball or socks have stopped rolling.

Keep a score of how many rolls you take for each hole.

When playing with someone else, see who scores the least amount.

When playing a game by yourself, repeat the course and see if you can beat your score the second time.

Now, there's a video following showing how to complete this game if you're a little bit unsure, but I think you're going to use really accurate rolls to get the ball into the holes in as few rolls as possible.

So in our rolling golf, we really had to focus and concentrate on how much power and how to accurately get the ball there in as few shots as possible.

And Aisha said that, "I kept going even when I missed a hole, as I really wanted to improve my rolling accuracy.

" Did you?

Did you give up or did you keep going?

Maybe you repeated the course a second time to try and improve your score, which shows a lot of self-motivation.

And Jacob said that, "I wrote my score down after each hole so I didn't forget.

" Yes.

Because if you're doing nine holes, it is hard to keep score of all the holes and remember how many you got on each one.

So I'm hoping that you wrote it down using a paper and a pen, or paper and a pencil, so that you didn't forget your score.

Well done if you did that.

Okay.

We're now moving on to the second part of today's lesson.

We're going to look at rolling crazy golf.

This sounds like fun.

So Jacob enjoyed rolling golf, but found it quite easy.

So how could we make it harder?

What do you think?

And Jacob said that, "We could add obstacles so we have to roll a ball under, around, or over it to get to the hole.

" That sounds a lot of fun.

So Jacob's asked, "What kind of obstacles could you use to roll the ball under?

" Perhaps you could use a chair, two books, or a cushion to roll the ball under to make it a bit of a harder obstacle to get your ball towards the hole.

Now Jacobs asked us, "What kind of obstacles could you use to roll the ball around?

" Hmm, what could we find, at home perhaps or wherever we are, to roll the ball around?

Maybe we could use a toy, a book, or a cushion to act as a marker that we have to roll the ball around.

And Jacobs also asked, "What kind of obstacles could you use to roll the ball over?

" And you might've thought of something like a book ramp to try and roll the ball over to make it a bit harder.

And Aisha said that, "If you're rolling a ball over an obstacle, you may need to add a bit more power so the ball has enough pace to travel over it.

" Yes.

Because if I try to roll the ball up over this obstacle without the power, it's not going to get over.

So we might need a little bit more power if we're going over an obstacle.

Okay.

Let's have a quick go at a check.

What type of obstacle could you roll the ball under?

Would it be A, a toy, B, a chair, or C, one book?

What do you think?

Well, you might be able to, depending on the toy or the book, roll it under.

However, the easiest one would be a chair to roll under.

So maybe if you have any chairs in where you're working, you can use that as an obstacle to roll the ball under.

And another check.

What do you need to think about when rolling over an obstacle?

When rolling over an obstacle, you might need to think about adding more power so that the ball has enough pace to get up and over the obstacle without it just coming back towards you.

Well done if you said something along those lines.

So Jacob creates a crazy golf course with obstacles to go under and around.

He uses a book to mark his tee off spot, and a plastic cup to be the hole.

He tries to roll the ball into the cup using the least number of rolls possible, as he also completes the two obstacles.

So he's got to go under the books and around the toy before he can get the ball into the hole, and he counts how many rolls it takes him to do that.

Aisha said that, "Self-motivation is needed in this game because it is quite difficult.

" And Jacob said, "I want to show self-motivation by trying to improve each time I play so my rolling becomes more accurate.

" And that's a really good attitude to have.

He really wants to improve his self-motivation by making sure he keeps trying and keeps improving.

So well done, Jacob, for noticing that.

Okay, now it's your turn to have a go at the rolling crazy golf task.

You're going to create nine different holes in different locations around your home or garden.

For each hole, place at least one obstacle to make it more difficult.

Starting at the tee off marker, count how many rolls it takes to get your ball or pair of socks into each hole.

Keep a score of how many rolls you use for each hole.

You may want to write down your score after each hole.

That will probably be best, so that you don't forget how many rolls you've taken on previous holes.

When playing someone else, see who scores the least.

And when playing the game by yourself, repeat the course to see if you can beat your score.

Now, you might want to watch the video coming next to show you how to complete this course, and then pause so that you can set up your own rolling crazy golf course wherever you are using obstacles to make those rolls a little bit harder.

" Yes, we definitely need to use problem solving skills now, because we've got obstacles in our way of the hole so we can't just roll straight.

So well done if you used your problem solving skills to get over, around, or under the different obstacles.

And Aisha said that, "I was self-motivated during the challenge as I tried to improve my rolling skills by making the ball travel around the obstacles.

So we're nearly at the end of today's lesson, so we need to perform our cool down before we finish and summarize today's lesson.

For our cool down, I'd like you to create a target in your space.

Collect your ball or socks and hold them as you walk slowly around all the space.

Every five seconds, stop still and perform a roll towards a target.

See how close you can get it to that target.

Reflection.

Whilst you're moving slowly within the space, think about how you were successful when using an accurate roll.

What actions were more controlled?

And commitment.

What could you do between now and the next lesson to practice your skills further?
