Hi, I'm Mrs. Afshan and welcome to our lesson.

Today we're going to think about some very big important questions.

Are you ready to be a little philosopher? Let's get started.

In our lesson today, we're going to learn about rules.

Not school rules or house rules, but special rules from God that help people live well.

These are called the 10 Commandments.

We're also going to learn about Jesus and what he said was the most important rule of all.

The lesson is called Jesus and good choices.

From the unit, do we need rules to live by? The outcome of today's lesson is, I can explain Jesus' teachings on the 10 Commandments and how they can help Christians make good choices.

Before we start our lesson, let's look at some special words that will help us in our lesson today.

The words are Christians, commandments and love.

Repeat after me.

Christians, your turn.

Christians.

Commandments.

Commandments.

And finally, love.

Love.

That was great.

Let's look at what these words mean.

The word Christians refers to people who follow Jesus and try to live like Him.

Commandments are special rules from God to help people live well.

And love is when you care about someone and want them to be happy.

Our lesson today has two cycles.

First, we are going to look at what did Jesus say about the commandments.

Here we have Sophia who's going to help us understand what philosophy in religious education is all about.

Sophia says, "Philosophers ask big important questions and try to answer them by thinking carefully.

You can use philosophy to share your ideas and understand other people's thoughts too." In this lesson, we will learn what Jesus taught about the 10 Commandments, and how His teachings help Christians make good choices.

Let's get started.

Here we have Sophia and Jacob.

And Sophia and Jacob are talking about love and kindness.

Jacob asks, "What does it mean to love someone?" What do you think? Let's check what Sophia says.

"Love is when you care about someone a lot.

It means you want them to be happy and you help them when they need it.

You might love your family, your friends, or even a pet." Did you think of the same ideas? Well done.

Sophia and Jacob are thinking deeper about love this time.

And they're thinking, is it easy or hard to love everyone and why? Sophia replies and says, "It's easy to love people who are kind to us, but it's hard to love someone who is mean or different.

Many religions say, we should try to love everyone because every person is special or made by God." Let's see if you got that.

What does love mean? Is it being kind and caring to others? Or only thinking about yourself? Or is it ignoring people when they are sad? What do you think? That's correct.

Love means being kind and caring to others.

That's the correct answer.

Great.

Sophia and Jacob wants to know what Jesus said about love.

They're talking now to Grace, who has a Christian worldview.

"Does your religion say to love everyone and why?" Jacob and Sophia asks.

Let's find out what Grace explains.

She says that "Yes, love everyone is what she believes in because Jesus said, we should love everyone.

Even our enemies because God loves everyone." Let's find out what Jesus said about the most important thing God wants us to do.

Jesus went into town one day and many people gathered around to hear Him speak.

Some teachers who knew all about God's rules, came to ask Jesus a question.

They want to see if He really understood the important thing God wanted people to do.

One of them asked, "Teacher, which is the most important commandment in God's law?" Jesus looked at him kindly and said, "The most important commandment is love.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." Then Jesus said, "Here is another commandment that is just as important.

Love your neighbour as yourself." Jesus explained, if you love God with all your heart and love others as you love yourself, then you are following all the commandments.

The teachers were surprised because Jesus made it simple.

He showed that all of God's rules come down to loving God and loving others, which is the foundation for making good choices.

When we choose to love, we choose kindness, respect, honesty, and helping others.

All good choices.

Let's see if you got that.

What did Jesus say is the most important thing to do? Is it always be quiet and listen? Or share your toys with friends? Or is it that love God with all your heart and love others like yourself? What do you think? That's correct.

"Love God with all your heart and love others like yourself," is what Jesus said is the most important thing to do.

You got that right.

Well done.

If Jesus gave a new commandment to love everyone.

Do you think the other commandments are still important too? Is what Jacob is thinking.

Grace replies and says "Yes, the 10 commandments are still very important because they show us how to live in a good way." She continues and explains, Jesus was Jewish and followed the 10 Commandments, but he gave His followers a new commandment too.

Jesus said, "Love one another just as I have loved you." That means being kind, forgiving and caring for others.

When we love people like Jesus did, we are also following God's commandments.

Time for another check.

Because Jesus gave a new commandment, the 10 commandments are no longer important.

True or false? What do you think? (no audio) That's false.

Because the 10 commandments are still important because they are God's special rules to help people live in a good and loving way.

Jesus didn't take them away.

He helped people to understand them better.

Well done if you chose false as you answer.

Great work.

Time for our task.

Jacob is explaining what Jesus said about the commandments.

However, he's not sure and has missed some words in his explanation.

Can you help Jacob complete the sentences? Read it very carefully and find the missing words to complete the sentences.

You can post the video now and come back when you're ready with your sentences.

Let's check your answers.

You might have said, Jesus was brought up in the Jewish faith and followed the 10 commandments.

He gave His followers a new commandment to love one another.

The 10 commandments are God's special rules to help people make good choices.

Well done for completing your sentences by finding the missing words.

Great work.

We now know what Jesus said about the commandments.

Let's go and find out, how do Christians make good choices? Sophia and Jacob are now thinking about how we should treat others.

"How should we treat others?" Questions Jacob.

"It's a great question," replies Sophia.

I think we should always be kind, loving, and respectful to others.

That means helping each other, sharing, forgiving, and being a good friend.

Next, Sophia and Jacob talks to Andrew who has a Christian worldview.

Let's find out what they're talking about.

"What did Jesus teach about treating others?" They question Andrew.

Andrew replies and explains how Jesus taught everyone to love other people the same way He loves us, with kindness, care, and forgiveness.

He continues and explains, "Because of what Jesus taught about love.

Christians like me follow His teachings every day.

When I choose to be kind, share my toys, say sorry if I hurt someone or help a friend, I'm following Jesus' example.

Jesus' words help me to remember how to live and to treat others with love." Time for a check.

Which of these is a way to follow Jesus' example? Is it by being kind to everyone? Or saying mean words to others? Or is it by ignoring someone who needs help? What do you think? That's correct, by being kind to everyone.

Great.

Sophia and Jacob are talking to Reverend Christopher, who has a Christian worldview.

They ask, "How do Christians make good choices?" What do you think? Great thinking.

Let's go and find out what Reverend Christopher says.

He says, "Christians make good choices, by remembering what Jesus taught them." He continues and explains, "Jesus gave us a special commandment to love one another just like He loves us.

This helps Christians make good choices every day.

We try to be kind, share and forgive just like Jesus taught.

When someone hurts our feelings, we can choose to forgive and can be kind again.

Jesus' words show us how to live with love and peace." Time for another check.

How do Christians make good choices? Is it by doing whatever they want? Or by thinking about themselves? Or is it by remembering what Jesus taught them? What do you think? That's correct? By remembering what Jesus taught them helps Christians make good choices.

Well done.

This special commandment appears in the Bible in John 13:34.

"A new command I gave you, love one another as I have loved you, so you must love one another." Let's find out what Christians learn from this commandment.

When Christians follow this new commandment of love and make good choices, their lives become happier and they can live peacefully with family, friends, and their community.

How does making good choices make your life better? Jacob Wonders.

"Making good choices help you feel happier and more peaceful," replies, Sophia.

When you're kind, honest and helpful, people want to be your friend.

You feel good inside and you help others feel good too." Great thinking, Sophia.

Let's see if you can find the missing words to complete the sentence.

Making good choices makes your life mm and? What are the missing words? Is it harder and sad? Or lonely and difficult? Or is it happier and peaceful? What do you think? That's correct.

Making good choices makes your life happier and peaceful.

Well done for choosing that as your missing words.

Time for our next task.

Now we have Jacob here who's thinking about Christians making good choices.

He says, "I know that people make good choices to live well together." He's not sure what helps Christians make good choices.

Give Jacob an example to help him understand.

You can post the video now and come back when you're ready to check your answer with me.

Let's check your answer.

We had to give Jacob an example to help him understand.

Possible answer could be, Christians believe that following Jesus helps them make good choices.

Jesus teaches Christians to be kind, honest and loving to others.

One important commandment Jesus gave is to love others just like He loves everyone.

For example, if you find a friend feeling lonely at school, Jesus would want you to be kind and invite them to play with you.

That's showing love by following His commandment.

Well done if you used that example to explain.

Great.

Let's recap our learning.

Today we've learned that the 10 commandments are special rules from God that guide people to live well.

We also know that Jesus followed these commandments, but also gave a new commandment to love one another as He loves us.

Many Christians make good choices by following Jesus' teachings about love.

And making good choices are based on Jesus' command.

To love, leads to happier, peaceful lives and better relationships with family, friends, and the community.

Well done.

You've done some amazing thinking today.

We now know Christians believe that when they follow Jesus' teaching to love, they can make good choices, like being kind, helping others, saying sorry, and forgiving.

These good choices help make the world a happier and more peaceful place.

That's the end of today's lesson.

I will see you in our next lesson.

Goodbye.
