Hello everybody it is me Miss McCartney and today we are going to build on the rest of the lessons, from this unit to do some writing that creates a mood to move our reader.

We are going to be writing about the final scene in our story where Kartikeya approaches Ganesh and requests the truth.

In our lesson today you will need a piece of paper or something to write on a pencil or something to write with and your creative brain ready to write about mood.

You will also need our boxing up plan that we completed in lesson six of unit 10.

It is really important that you have your plan, so you have some ideas to help you with your writing.

If you need to go and get any of those things, pause your video now.

Excellent.

Let's have a look at what we are going to be doing in today's lesson.

We are going to start with a spelling activity.

Then we are going to look at a writers technique called the Power of three.

We are then going to complete a shared write together, and afterwards we are going to edit our writing.

Let's get started with our spelling rule.

Today we are going to be adding the suffix 's' or 'es' to our singular nouns, where there is only one thing to make plurals where there are more than one.

Let's have a look at our first noun.

Our singular noun is box.

And when we change box to plural, we get boxes.

Our second noun is night.

And the plural of night is nights, fantastic.

You can already see a difference between our suffixes there.

Then we have the noun buzz and the plural buzzes.

Our last noun is glass and we have the plural glasses.

I would like you to take a really careful look at those plurals and see if you can notice any patterns.

Okay, so for our rule today, we need to know that if our singular noun ends in 'ch', 'sh', 's', 'x' or 'z' then we need to add the suffix 'es'.

If our singular noun ends in any other letter, for example, 't' in night, then we just need to add that our suffix 's'.

So let's have a look at some examples on the next page.

You need to decide for these words if we need to add the suffix 's' or 'es'.

Here are your words so remember you need to add 'es' if a word ends in 'ch', 'sh' ,'x' or 'z'.

So have a look at all of your words if your singular noun ends in any other letter, then you just need to add the suffix 's'.

Pause your video now to write down these words with their suffix.

Excellent.

Let's have a look at the answers.

So all of our words apart from falls and flips, needed the 'es' suffix.

Stitches ends in 'ch', fuss ends in 's', foxes ends in 'x' and buzz ends in 'z'.

Fantastic I would like you now to pause the video and give yourself a big tick for the ones that you've got correct and fix the ones that you got wrong so that you can learn from your mistake.

Pause your video now.

Brilliant learning everybody.

Okay to put your spelling into practise, I would like you to create three nonsense sentences, three silly sentences using our root words and the suffix 's' or 'es'.

Miss McCartney's example is, when Kartikeya saw the foxes he pretended he had a tail as well.

You have got our story words Ganesh and Kartikeya and the root words box, buzz and buzz, sorry box, fuss and buzz.

So I would like you to write three nonsense sentences and add your suffixes.

Pause the video now to complete your task.

Brilliant.

Let's move on to the main part of our lesson.

We are going to start with our short warm up activity to get our creative juices flowing.

And we are going to look at a writers technique called the Power of three.

When we use the power of three we create longer sentences that are more detailed.

They paint a clear picture in our mind.

My example sentence says, when the music played, people danced, pranced and sang at the top of their voices.

I have used the power of three to add more detail.

I would like you to write a sentence about the music, about actions and what was happening, what were people doing and Buddhi's dress.

So pause the video now and create your sentences, where you are using the power of three.

Wow! I am so impressed with the power of three that I have seen.

Somebody sentence says, "Buddhi's dress was colourful, sparkly and beautiful." Great job everybody.

We are now going to move on to our writing and we are going to look at our boxing up plan first.

We are going to write our event three paragraph about the feast today, and we are going to create moods that move our reader.

Let's remember what I wrote for event three under what happened.

I wrote Ganesh and Buddi marry.

Kartikeya is suspicious about Ganesh's victory, so asks him if he really raced around the world.

And Ganesh revealed that he did not travel around the world, but he read books all about the different countries and therefore that's how he raced around the world.

I would like you to pause the video and look at your sentences to remind you what you thought happened.

Pause your video now.

Excellent everybody.

We have a really exciting mood to recreate in our writing today.

We have Ganesh feeling smug, so he feels really satisfied and pleased with himself but in a really cheeky way about Kartikeya asking the truth.

Then we have Kartikeya feeling very confused and then very furious.

So I am going to stop this video now, because we are going to do our writing so I shall see you in just a second.

Okay, we are going to start creating a mood that moves our reader.

The first thing I would like you to do, is write your toolkit on the side of your paper.

To remind us about the different focuses we are going to use.

So pause your video now to write down your toolkits.

Fantastic everybody.

Okay, so the first thing we're going to do is use the power of three.

My sentence stem is, when Kartikeya, entered, entered, when Kartikeya entered the feast, he saw.

Now I would like you to list three things that Kartikeya saw.

So pause the video now to have a little think.

I'm going to write my ideas down here and you need to as well.

So I heard some people say, dancing, chatting, dancing, chatting, and what should we have for our final one? We've already got two things, so let's see if we can have another thing.

Dancing, chatting and, eating.

Those are Miss McCartney's ideas make sure your ideas are written down too.

If you need to pause your video do that now to write down your ideas so that you can remember later.

When Kartikeya entered the feast, I need a comma here because that is a subordinating clause.

When Kartikeya entered the feast he saw dancing, chatting, and, eating.

Now I am going to think about Kartikeya's feelings.

He, he felt now pause your video now and think about how Kartikeya felt.

Okay, I heard somebody say he felt like he had a, fuzzy, tummy.

I know that feeling when you feel a little bit nervous.

I'm going to say he felt, like, he, had, a, I'm going to say bubbly, bubbly.

tummy.

Okay, so he felt like he had a bubbly tummy, helps us to create some tension because that tells us that he is really nervous.

Okay we are now going to use, for, some time, that is a fronted adverbial to mark time so we need a comma.

For some time, he had, wondered.

Now, what do you think Kartikeya had wondered, pause your video now to have a think.

Oh, I had a really good idea somebody said he wondered if, his brother, really, respected him.

So he is wondering if his brother has been respectful and truthful.

So wondered if, his, brother, really, respect, respected, sounds like it's an 'i' but it's actually an 'e'.

Respected him okay, fantastic.

So we have got, we already had our thoughts and we have already got some action.

Okay.

Now we are going to do our appearances to give us an indication of feeling.

So looking, going to start our sentence with some action.

Looking over at, Ganesh, looking over at Ganesh, Kartikeya.

'K' Oh, before I write my idea you need to think about your idea.

When, Kartikeya looked over at Ganesh what do you think he did with his appearance to show us his feelings? Pause your video now to have a think.

Brilliant I heard somebody say, clenched, his, fists.

So, looking over at Ganesh, Kartikeya clenched, 'c' 'l' 'e' 'n' 'ch' 'e' 'd', clenched his, 'f''i''s''t''s', fists.

And, now I'm going to develop this a little bit more with a bit more detail and, 's'tarted, started, walking, quickly.

He starts walking quickly, which tells me that he is determined and it starts to bring a bit of pace to our writing and make me wonder what is going to happen.

Let's read through our work to check that we have, written a paragraph that makes our mood and that it makes sense.

When Kartikeya entered the feast, he saw dancing, chatting and eating.

He felt like he had a bubbly tummy.

If I was going to write that again, I might improve it.

He felt like, I'm going to say his, tummy, might, erupt.

So I'm comparing his tummy to a volcano.

So I'm really pleased with that sentence, I think it's a bit of a stronger image.

For some time he had wondered if his brother really respected him.

Looking over at Ganesh, Kartikeya clenched his fist and started walking quickly.

Okay, it is now over to you to write your paragraph, to create a mood that moves your reader about the feast.

Now I have stopped when Kartikeya walks over, but you can continue your paragraph until the end of the scene.

I cannot wait to see, your wonderful, wonderful writing everybody.

Okay wonderful writers I would like you to hold up your work to the camera, so that I can see your action and parents thoughts and feelings in your paragraph to create a mood that moves our reader.

Hold it up now.

Wow! Ooh, I like some of the sentence there.

Kartikeya felt so hot and bothered that he couldn't look at his brother anymore.

I love that tension.

Now you need to check your punctuation.

Have you got your capital letters, full stops, question marks, exclamation marks, commas and inverted commas, if you have used speech.

You need to check that first.

Then you need to read through your work and make sure it makes sense.

Have you missed any words? Or have you repeated any words that you don't need? Then I would like you to double check your mood toolkit again to make sure, that you have action, appearance, thoughts and feelings.

Well done superstar learners you are amazing.

I would like you to give yourself some shine to make yourself feel all warm and fuzzy because you have done such a great job.

I would love to see some of your writing.

If you like please ask your parent or carer to share your work on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter tagging @OakNational and @TeachTMcCartney #LearnwithOak.

Great job today, everybody.
