- Hi everyone, I'm Ms. Boyd, your music teacher.

And in today's lesson, we're going to learn about how we can change the pitch of our singing voice.

In today's lesson, we'll look at how we can change the pitch of a melody.

We'll practise singing in high and low pitches.

And we'll see if we can follow the pitch of a piece of music.

In this lesson, you'll need three things, your singing voice, your bodies and your thinking brain.

But before we get started, should we sing a song to say hello? ♪ Off we go, ♪ ♪ Hello, hello, it's good to see you ♪ ♪ Hello, hello, it's good to see you ♪ ♪ I must say, you've made my day ♪ ♪ Hello, hello, hello ♪ Today we're going to do a lot of singing.

So before we get started, let's warm up our voices.

I want you to imagine that there is a bumblebee at the end of your finger.

I'd like your bumblebee to copy my bumblebee.

Are you ready? Should we get a bit faster? Well done.

Now we've practised those bumblebee sounds, our voices are really warmed up and ready to sing.

Okay, have a look at this piece of music.

What do you notice? Can you see that the dots on the piece of music are going up and down, and up and down, very much like our bumblebee friend earlier, right? What I'd like you to do for this activity and the next few songs that we're going to sing.

What I'd like you to do is really use your eyes and follow the dots on the piece of music.

If the notes go up, the melody, the tune of the song is likely to go up, and if the dots go down, it's very likely that that part of the tune is going to go down.

So as we sing this song together, I'd like you to follow the pitch of this music with your eyes.

Feel free to sing along too.

Are you ready? ♪ Off we go, ♪ ♪ Rain, rain go away.

♪ ♪ Come again another day ♪ How was that? Not that hard was it? This time, if you were looking at me, make sure you look at the music on the page, okay? Okay, I'm still here.

I've switched my camera off so you can focus on just looking at the dots on the piece of music.

Are you ready? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Rain, rain go away ♪ ♪ Come again another day ♪ Well done.

Should we try that again? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Rain, rain go away ♪ ♪ Come again another day.

♪ Okay, I'm back.

How did you find following the music? It's not that hard, is it? Well done.

This time let's try and sing the same song but in our low pitched voice.

Are you ready? ♪ Off we go, ♪ ♪ Rain, rain go away ♪ ♪ Come again another day ♪ How was that? Feel a bit strange? I know, changing the pitch always feels a bit different, but our voices can do it.

Let's try again.

♪ Off we go, ♪ ♪ Rain, rain go away, ♪ ♪ Come again another day.

♪ Fantastic.

Now we're going to try exactly the same thing again, but with a different piece of music.

Firstly, let's sing through this song so that we know the melody really well.

♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Star light, star bright ♪ ♪ First star I see tonight ♪ ♪ Wish I may, wish I might ♪ ♪ Have the wish I wish tonight ♪ Great singing along.

Should we try that again? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Star light, star bright ♪ ♪ First star I see tonight ♪ ♪ Wish I may, wish I might ♪ ♪ Have the wish I wish tonight ♪ Excellent, now I'm going to turn my camera off and we're going to practise just following the dots on the piece of music.

When the dots go up, the melody of the song goes up and when the dots of the music go down the melody of the music also might go a little bit down, that's just the pitch changing.

Feel free to follow with your finger but make sure that your eyes are really switched on to following the music.

Are you ready? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Star light, star bright ♪ ♪ First star I see tonight ♪ ♪ Wish I may, wish I might ♪ ♪ Have the wish I wish tonight ♪ Well done.

Should we try that again? Remember, you're allowed to follow with your finger if it helps, use your eyes to see when the dots of the music go up or down to make sure that your singing voice, the pitch, is also going up or down.

♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Star light, star bright ♪ ♪ First star I see tonight ♪ ♪ Wish I may, wish I might ♪ ♪ Have the wish I wish tonight ♪ Great singing and great following the pitch of the music.

Well done, guys.

Now we're going to change the pitch of the melody of this music.

We're going to sing this song now in our low pitched voices.

Are you ready? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Star light, star bright ♪ ♪ First star I see tonight ♪ ♪ Wish I may, wish I might ♪ ♪ Have the wish I wish tonight ♪ Well done.

How was that? It's strange singing in our low pitch voices sometimes, isn't it? Let's try again one more time.

♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Star light, star bright ♪ ♪ First star I see tonight ♪ ♪ Wish I may, wish I might ♪ ♪ Have the wish I wish tonight ♪ Well done.

What do you think it would sound like if we sang the same song in a high pitched voice? Should we have a go together? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Star light, star bright ♪ ♪ First star I see tonight ♪ ♪ Wish I may, wish I might ♪ ♪ Have the wish I wish tonight ♪ Well done.

Great singing everyone.

Okay, now we're on to our third song.

Reading the pitch of a piece of music should be much easier.

We're going to sing through twice.

The first time we'll sing together.

The second time I'm going to turn my camera off and you're going to follow the pitch of the piece of music.

Okay? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ ♪ One a penny, two a penny ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ ♪ One a penny, two a penny ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ Well done.

Let's sing that again.

Using our eyes and your finger, if you need to, to follow how high or low the pitch of the music goes.

♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ ♪ One a penny, two a penny ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ Great work everyone.

Now for fun, should we sing the same song in a really high pitched voice? Let's have a go.

♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ ♪ One a penny, two a penny ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ Well done.

How about a low pitched voice? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ ♪ One a penny, two a penny ♪ ♪ Hot cross buns ♪ Well done everyone, we worked really hard today.

You changed the pitch of the melody of each of those pieces of music.

You sang at really high pitched voices and low pitched voices.

And you followed the pitch of the piece of music three times, well done.

Before we go, let's close with our goodbye song.

Are you ready? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Goodbye, goodbye ♪ ♪ It's time to go now ♪ ♪ Goodbye, goodbye ♪ ♪ It's time to go now ♪ ♪ I must say, you've made my day ♪ ♪ Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye ♪.
