Hi everyone, I'm Ms. Boyd, your music teacher.

And today we're going to learn about how we can use both our voices and objects around our house to make high-pitched and low-pitched sounds.

In today's lesson, we will create different voice percussion pitches, we'll practise following the pitch of a piece of music, and we'll see if we can identify different objects that make different pitches.

In this lesson, you'll need three things.

Your singing voice, your bodies, and your thinking brain.

But before we get started, shall we sing a song to say hello? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Hello hello, it's good to see you ♪ ♪ Hello hello, it's good to see you ♪ ♪ I must say, you've made my day ♪ ♪ Hello, hello, hello ♪ For our first learning activity today, we're going to explore how our voices can not only sing high and low pitches, but they can create percussive high and low pitches.

♪ I can sing ♪ Your turn.

♪ I can sing ♪ ♪ I can sing, I can sing ♪ Easy, right? Let's sing it four times.

♪ Off we go, I can sing ♪ ♪ I can sing, I can sing ♪ ♪ I can sing ♪ Now let's switch the song around so that we're using voice percussion.

Do you know what that is? Percussion is anything that you can bang to make a noise.

Like a drum, but this time we're going to create voice percussion.

Copy me to see what I mean.

♪ Off we go, boom boom ding ♪ ♪ Boom boom ding, boom boom ding ♪ ♪ Boom boom ding ♪ Do you see what we did there? We changed our voices so that instead of using words, we used percussive sounds.

Our boom boom, sounded like the bass, low-pitched-ness of a drum.

And the ding, instead of the word sing, Sounded like a nice high-pitched crashing cymbal.

♪ Ding ♪ Why don't you have a go playing around with your percussive voice? Try and make some high sounds and some low sounds.

Now, did you know that you can probably turn anything, any object into a musical instrument? Which objects around your home do you think might make a high-pitched sound? And which objects do you think around your home could make a low-pitch sound? I'll tell you what, why don't you pause the video and I'd like you to go and ask an adult to help you find two different objects, one that makes a low pitched sound and one that makes a high pitched sound.

I'm going to have a look around my home too.

See you in a minute! Welcome back.

What did you find? So cool.

Shall I show you what I found? For a bass-y sound, I found this cushion.

I thought it made quite a low sound.

And for my high pitched sound, I found these.

Okay.

I have a challenge for us.

With your high and your low objects, shall we try and follow the high and low pitches of a piece of music? It's going to be pretty tricky, but let's have a go.

First of all, let's sing through this song and have a think about which notes are high and which notes are slightly lower.

♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Cobbler cobbler mend my shoe ♪ ♪ Get it done by half past two ♪ ♪ Half past two is much too late ♪ ♪ Get it done by half past eight ♪ Well done.

Now we're going to try and sing that again, but this time we're going to use our high and low objects to represent the high and low pitches of the song.

Shall we give it a go? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Cobbler cobbler mend my shoe ♪ ♪ Get it done by half past two ♪ ♪ Half past two is much too late ♪ ♪ Get it done by half past eight ♪ Well done.

Okay, let's try another song.

We'll sing through this once first and as we sing through, have a listen out for the notes that are high and the notes that are slightly lower.

Are you ready? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Rain rain go away ♪ ♪ Come again another day ♪ Good job.

Okay, let's use our high and low-pitched objects now.

♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Rain rain go away ♪ ♪ Come again another day ♪ Great job.

Shall we try again for fun? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Rain rain go away ♪ ♪ Come again another day ♪ Now you've had a chance to sing with high and low-pitched sounds and use objects from around your home, I'd like you to pause this video, go and find other people and see if they'd like to hear you perform a high and low-pitched piece of music.

It can be a song that we've learned, some of the sounds that we made, or some of the sounds you made yourself.

Go on, go and show them how well you've done.

That's the end of our lesson today.

Great work today, everyone.

You did a fantastic job at using your voice percussion and finding objects that had high and low-pitched sounds.

And of course, you followed the pitch of a piece of music really well.

Before we go, let's close with our goodbye song.

Are you ready? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Goodbye goodbye ♪ ♪ It's time to go now ♪ ♪ Goodbye goodbye ♪ ♪ It's time to go now ♪ ♪ I must say, you've made my day ♪ ♪ Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye ♪.
