Hello, and welcome to this lesson where we will be counting to and from 20.

By the end of the lesson, you will have counted up to 20 and backwards from 20 back to zero.

In the first part of this lesson, we will be reciting the numbers to 20, forwards and backwards.

When we're counting the numbers up to 20 forwards, we say the numbers in the same order, and when we count quids from 20 back to zero, we say the numbers in the same order too, but this time they're said in reverse.

So let's get started.

So to start off, we're going to count up to 20 together.

Are you ready? Let's go.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20.

Well done.

Let's do the next one.

This time we're gonna be counting up to 20 again, but this time we're gonna be counting really, really slowly.

Are you ready? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.

13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20.

Were you slower than I was? Let's do it again.

This time we're going to count really, really quickly.

Try not to miss any numbers out.

Now, we're gonna use a big, loud, monster voice.

Now, we're going to check if you remember which number comes next.

So, for this little activity, I'd like you to shut your eyes tight and really listen hard.

I'm going to say some numbers and I want you to tell me which number comes next.

Are you ready? 1, 2, 3, 4.

What number comes next? Yes, it's five.

Did you get that? Let's do another one.

Eyes shut, listen carefully.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15.

And which number comes next? Yes, it's 16.

Well done.

Now, we've been practising counting forwards to 20, saying the numbers in the same order.

Now, we're gonna count backwards from 20 all the way back to zero.

Let's start off by doing it together.

Now, let's do it in a different voice.

Let's count really, really slowly.

We've been practising counting backwards from 20 back to zero.

Now, I'm going to check if you know which number comes next when we're counting backwards.

So just like we did before, I want you to shut your eyes and listen really, really carefully.

Are you ready? 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9.

Which number comes next? Yes, it's eight.

Good, let's do another one.

20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15.

Which number comes next? Yes, it's 14, that's correct.

Let's try another one.

20 19, 18, 17.

The next number is 16, well done.

Last one.

20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13.

The last answer here is 12.

Did you get that right? Well done.

Now, I'm gonna give you a chance to practise counting, reciting your numbers to 20 forwards and backwards.

For this, you might wanna work in a small group or with a partner.

Your teacher or another adult could read out the instructions and then you can have a chance to practise and pause the video in between each of the instructions.

I'm gonna read out the first one for you and then you can pause the video.

Ready? Count forwards with a partner or a small group until you reach 20.

Pause the video now.

Okay, the second instruction is counting with your partner or your small group, go backwards until you reach zero.

So pause the video again.

Okay, the third instruction is whisper the numbers up to 6 and then shout up to 20.

Pause the video again.

And finally, shout the numbers from 20 to 16 and then whisper back to zero.

Pause the video.

What did you find easier? Was it easier to count forwards or was it easier to count backwards? Also, when you're counting backwards, make sure you don't miss out any numbers.

Make sure when you're counting backwards, after 16, you're gonna say 15, 14, and 13.

Well done.

So during the first part of our session today, we've been reciting the numbers to 20 forwards and backwards.

Now, we're moving on to the second part of our lesson.

This is where the last number you say, tells us how many are in the set.

So when we're counting objects we say one number name for each of the objects.

So I'm gonna show you some counters on the screen, but you may prefer to put the counters out or some objects out on the table and count the objects as we say.

So let's go together.

Ready? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20.

So I said one number name for each of the objects as I was counting them, and I was really careful, because when I got to the number 17, it's quite a long word, but I only put down one object.

Only click one counter.

So now we're gonna count backwards.

Are you ready? Still say one number name for each of the objects.

Ready? So, 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0.

There are no counters left.

Well done.

Now then, when we are counting out and saying one number name for each object, the last number name we say tells us how many there are in each set.

So let's count these out together.

Are you ready? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20.

So the last number I said was 20.

That means we've got 20 counters in our set.

Now, I'm gonna have a chance for you to check to see if you understand how many there are.

Remember, the last number name will tell us how many chicks you can see on the screen.

So the question is, how many chicks can you see? Remember, that last number name you say, will tell you how many chicks there are.

Pause the video to allow you a chance to count them.

So how did you get on? How many chicks did you see? Should we count them together? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14.

So how many chicks are there? The last number name we said was 14, so there are 14 chicks.

Well done.

How many cars can you see? Pause the video.

Remember, the last number name you say, will tell you how many cars there are.

Did you work it out? Should we count together and see how many there are? Ready? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17.

So the last number we said was 17, so there are 17 cars.

Well done.

Now, look at the ladybirds on the screen.

Can you see how many there are? Remember, the last number you say, tells us how many are in the set.

Okay, shall we count them together? Ready? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16.

So the last number we said was 16.

That means there are 16 ladybirds.

Now, we're going to play a game.

It's a counting game.

And for this game, you're going to need a pot and 20 objects or 20 counters.

What I'd like you to do is to count each of the objects as you put it into the pot until you get to the end, when you've got all 20 counters in the pot and the last number you will have said will be 20.

Then, I want you to take the counters out of the pot, but this time I want you to count backwards, so you'll be counting backwards from 20 until you have no counters left in the pot.

I'll pause the video now to give yourself a chance to play the game.

How did you get on? Did you remember to say only one number name each time you moved an object? Good.

Now, for the next task, you'll need to have a handout in front of you.

Can you see all the rockets on the screen? On your sheet of paper, you'll have the same rockets and you need a pot of counters or a pot of objects.

What I want you to do is place one object over the top of every rocket and count them as you're going.

Remember, the last number name you say, will tell you how many rockets there are in the set.

Pause the video now so that you can do this task.

How did you get on? Did you manage to match the counters or the objects onto the rockets? And you should have used 18 counters because there are 18 rockets.

You match one counter to every rocket.

Well done.

Let's try another one.

This time you can see some cats' faces on the screen and some cats' faces on the sheet in front of you.

Remember, match one object to each cat's face.

Well done.

Did you manage to put one counter or one object on every cat's face? How many did you get? Did you use 20 counters? So the last number you said when you were counting was 20, so that means there are 20 cats' faces.

Let's try one more.

Can you see all those basketballs on the screen? Going to do the same thing and match one counter over every basketball.

How did you do? Did you use 16 counters? Did you put a counter or an object over every basketball? So the last number you said was 16.

That means there's 16 basketballs.

We've been practising lots of counting up to 20 and back from 20.

While we've been counting, we've remembered to say one number name for each object as we count, when we're counting forwards and when we're counting backwards.

And also, we've remembered that when we get to the end of counting a group of objects, the last number name we say, tells us how many are in the set.
