And I'm going to be teaching you math today.

Today we're going to be looking at temperature.

So I thought I'd start with a doctor, doctor joke.

Are you ready? "Doctor, doctor, I need you to help me out." "Certainly.

Which way did you come in?" Let's start today's lesson today.

Today we're going to be reading the temperature in degrees Celsius.

Here's the lesson agenda.

We start with the new learning, where we'll looking at what temperature is and how we measure it.

Then there will be a talk task.

Followed by an independent task, and then finishing off with a post quiz.

You will need a pencil and some paper.

The key word here to begin with is the word temperature.

I know that temperature measures how hot or cold something is.

That could be the temperature outside, or it could be my own body temperature, measuring how hot or cold I am.

We can measure temperature in Fahrenheit.

Or we can measure it in degrees Celsius.

Today we're going to be measuring the temperature in degrees Celsius.

Usually a doctor takes our temperature when we're feeling poorly.

Here, the boy's having his temperature taken by the doctor using a digital thermometer.

A thermometer that is digital could be placed on the forehead to read your temperature.

Or sometimes it's placed inside the ear.

Here there was a different type of thermometer, which is placed inside the mouth.

And the red line indicates how hot or cold somebody is.

Temperature refers to how hot or cold something or someone is.

A thermometer is a tool used for measuring temperature.

Degrees Celsius is a unit of measure for measuring temperature.

Water freezes at zero degrees Celsius.

This thermometer is going up in intervals of 10.

Let's look at the marks and see what they represent.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10.

Each Mark represents one.

The redline indicates how hot the person or thing is.

Here it goes one above 20.

That means the temperature is 21 degrees Celsius.

Let's look at solving problems to do with temperature.

Here we have the average temperatures for May.

In Spain it's 20 degrees Celsius, Greece, 19 degrees Celsius, Italy, 15 degrees Celsius, Iceland, 10 degree Celsius and Germany, 18 degrees Celsius.

The question asks us, what would the temperature in Spain be, if it was three degrees cooler? I need to know what temperature it is in Spain, on average.

And in Spain, it is 20 degrees Celsius.

Here I've got a bar model representing the whole number of 20 degrees Celsius.

If it is three degrees cooler, that's three parts of my bar model.

That I would take away.

This is the amount, that I would count to see if it was three degrees cooler.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17.

If it was three degrees cooler in Spain, it would be 17 degrees Celsius.

What would the temperature in Iceland be, if it became five degrees Celsius warmer? I'm going to pause to give you time to have a think.

Are you ready? The temperature in Iceland is 10 degrees.

Here's my bar model for 10 degrees.

There were 10 parts.

If it became five degrees warmer, the temperature would go up.

It would get hotter.

So I need to add on five degrees.

So here is my five degree Celsius.

My five carts to add to 10.

10 degrees add five degrees Celsius, is 15 degrees Celsius.

So if it became five degrees warmer in Iceland, it would be 15 degrees Celsius.

The first question says, order did these temperatures from coldest to warmest.

So in order it would be, one degree Celsius, 14 degrees Celsius, 17 degrees Celsius, 37 degrees Celsius.

The temperature in London is 22 degrees Celsius on Monday.

It is four degrees Celsius warmer in Rome.

What is the temperature in Rome on Monday? It is four degrees warmer, so the temperature is going to go up by four.

So you might have added four to your bar model.

The temperature in Rome on Monday, would be 26 degrees Celsius.

The temperature in Glasgow is 15 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

It is three degrees Celsius cooler on Sunday.

What is the temperature in Glasgow on Sunday? This time the temperature is getting cooler so it will go down.

The temperature would be three less.

So the temperature on Sunday would be 12 degrees Celsius.

Mia has a temperature of 39 degrees Celsius.

This is two degrees higher than it should be.

What should Mia's is temperature be? So it's too high.

It needs to go down by two degrees.

Two less than 39, 39 takeaway two would be 37 degrees Celsius.
