Why this why now

This unit uses and builds on pupils' understanding of speech writing from the earlier units 'Victorian childhood' and 'Taking a stand'. Pupils are now devloping their presentation abilities by writing them from scratch on their own concept and idea rather than relying on research and models from other lessons. This prepares pupils for later units in the curriculum, such as 'Women's rights across the ages', where they will develop increasing confidence and flair in their spoken language presentations.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils understand that words can share a root
  • Pupils can identify prefixes and suffixes, using them to modify words
  • Pupils can use a dictionary effectively
  • Pupils can use some persuasive techniques verbally or in writing
