Hello everyone, my name is Miss Barron and welcome to lesson six in our unit on instructions.

Now I don't know about you, but I've just been finding that instructions are copping up all the time in my life.

I'm using them all the time.

Just earlier today, I instructed my mom how to use her new phone.

I wonder how you've been using instructions in your lives since we last met.

Now, we've been learning how to give instructions to make a magic hat, haven't we? In today's lesson, we are going to recycle that set of instructions which means that we're going to change it to make a whole new set of instructions, using all of our own ideas to make something else that's magic.

I wonder what that is going to be.

And after we've done that, we're going to box up our recycled set of instructions to help us tell it and to help us write it.

So this is what the lesson today is going to look like in more detail.

First, a quick spelling activity, then we are going to recycle ideas.

So we're going to come up with new ideas for our new set of instructions.

Then we're going to box it up and tell that new recycled version, and after that, there's something at the end that we're going to do but I'm going to keep it a surprise until later.

So, this is what you are going to need in today's lesson.

You will need a piece of paper, or your exercise book to write on, and a pencil or a pen to write with.

So pause the video now and go and get those things if you need to.

Begin with our spending activity.

And today we are going to be practising our tricky words or our sight words.

So I'm going to hold up some flashcards.

Okay, so we're going to practise reading some of our tricky words before we get to spelling them.

It's going to be my turn, your turn, so watch my hands signal to let you know when it's your turn.

Ready for the first word? Go, my turn.

Go, your turn.

Go, go, go, go.

I go to the supermarket.

Go, brilliant.

Next word.

Here.

My turn, here.

Your turn, here.

Here, here, here, here, here, Well done, here.

The postman is here.

And it's here as in here in this place, not hear.

Spelled H-E-A-R.

Here, H-E-R-E, means here.

Well done.

Next word by.

My turn, by.

Your turn, by.

By, by, by.

Brilliant.

I like to sit by the Lake.

Next word there.

There, your turn, there, your turn, there, there, there, Queen's voice.

There.

Your turn.

Well done.

There, there are lots of ice lollies in my freezer.

Next word where.

My turn, where.

Your turn, where.

Where, where, Where.

Brilliant, well done.

And the last word school.

My turn, school.

Your turn, school, school, I go to school every day.

Brilliant.

School, well done.

I forgot to give a sentence for where, didn't I? Where is my bottle of water? Where is my bottle of water? That's a question.

Isn't it? So those are tricky words today.

Now let's get onto spelling them.

So now that we practise reading are tricky words, you are going to have a go at using them to make up some silly sentences of your own.

So here's my silly sentence.

Giraffes go to school on roller skates.

I've used the tricky word go in my sentence, haven't I? So there are your tricky words in the table on your screen.

I would like you to choose at least three and make up your own silly sentences using those words.

Pause the video now and do that.

Brilliant, you're back.

And I would love for you to tell me your favourite sentence that you just made up.

Go on tell me your screen now.

What a creative silly sentences and well done for using your tricky words in them.

Now, we have practised reading are tricky words.

We practise using them in our own sentences.

So now we're ready to have a go at spelling them.

And to do that, we are going to use a strategy called look, cover, write, check.

So remember, we can't sound these words out.

Can we to help us write them? We just have to learn.

We just have to learn how to write them and practise, practise, practise.

So, here's our strategy.

Look, cover, write, check.

Do that with me.

Look, cover, write, check.

So here's how you're going to do it.

You're going to take one word at a time.

So let's take the word go.

You're going to look at it first.

Look at it, then you're going to cover it up.

So put your hand over it so you can't see it anymore.

then you're going to write it down three times.

Three times.

How many times? Three times, well done.

And then, you are going to check it.

So you will uncover the word, so you'll take your hand away so you can see it again and you will check it.

Okay, so I would like you to do that with all of your spelling words today that's on your screen.

practise writing them and keep going until you can do them without making any mistakes.

Until you get them right.

So pause the now and do that.

Fantastic job.

So that is the end of our spellings today.

Now let's get onto the main part of today's lesson.

You've been learning how to give instructions to make a magic hat.

Now today, we are going to change those instructions.

We are going to recycle them to give a new set of instructions for something else that's magic.

Now to do that we need to generate, which means come up with some new ideas.

So let's have a think about what those ideas could be.

Now, you might like to stick with the idea of a magic hat but make a different type of magic hat.

So we'll change all the things that you need to make it, and what you do to make it and also change what the magic hat does for you.

So, you could choose a magic hat.

You might choose magic shoes, so you could come up with a set of instructions for how to make magic shoes.

Or you might like to choose a magic cloak.

You could come up with a set of instructions of how to make a magic cloak.

So I would like you to make your choice and you're a very simple, quick picture of which one of those options you are going to choose for your new set of instructions.

So pause the video now and do that.

Fabulous, you're ready to tell me then what choice you made.

So go on tell me to your screen.

I chose; tell me now.

Fantastic, we are going to have lots of different sets of instructions for different things.

Magic hats, magic shoes, and magic cloaks.

This is very exciting.

Now remember, the first thing that we need to do in our set of instructions, is to tell people why they should make it.

So, if you've chosen the magic hat, the magic hat gives you what you most want.

So it's different now.

Instead of just showing you the new magic hat is going to give you what you most wants.

If you chose magic shoes, then your magic shoes are going to take you where ever you want to go.

That's what's special about those.

And if you chose a magic cloak, then your magic cloak is going to make you invisible.

So those are the reasons we are going to give as to why people should make our magic hats, magic shoes, or magic cloaks.

So now you know what you're going to make and why you're making it.

We now need to think about what you need to make it.

So remember for our magic hat, we needed six key things.

Let's just remind ourselves what those six things were, shall we? We needed the horn of a unicorn, the tooth of dragon, the snot of a giant, the song of the mermaids, a ray of silver moonlight and a gold bucket.

So, we're going to change all of those things now.

So let's have a think about what some of our new ideas could be.

We're going to start with a horn again except this time for our new set of instructions, we are going to have a horn from a different type of creature.

So, here are some ideas to help you.

You might like to choose the horn of a dragon, the horn of a goat or the horn of a faun.

Now a faun is a mythical creature.

And I don't know if you've ever heard of the story "Narnia" the story of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe but there is a faun in that story.

And as you can see from the picture on the screen, a faun is a creature whose body is in two separate parts.

So, the bottom part is the legs and feet of a goat and then the top part of its body is a human body.

But it has horns on its head.

So, you might like to choose the horn of a dragon, the horn of a goat or the horn of a faun or you might already have your own idea.

Now, let me just show you my simpler pictures to help you.

So here they are again.

The horn of a dragon, the horn of a goat or the horn of a faun.

Or like I said, you might have a different idea of your own.

And that's fantastic if you do.

But if you don't, feel free to choose one of mine.

So I would like you to pause the video now and draw a quick simple picture of the horn that you would like for your new set of instructions.

So pause the video now, and do that.

So, you might already have an idea of your own, but you could choose one of mine.

So here are three ideas for you.

You might choose the tooth of a wolf, the tooth of a shark or the tooth of a crocodile.

Have a look at those pictures.

See which one you would like for your set of instructions.

So here are my drawings to help you.

I would like you now to pause the video, enjoy a quick simple picture of the creature you are going to get your tooth from, your set of instructions.

It might be one of those, or you might have your own idea.

Pause the video, enjoy your picture.

Fantastic, so now you've got your horn and your tooth.

Now we need a song, don't we? So where is our song going to come from? It could come from a mermaid.

It could come from a fairy or it could come from a harp.

Now a harp is a musical instrument.

It looks like it does in the picture there, and it creates really beautiful, sweet soft music.

So have a look at those pictures and decide which one of those you are going to get your song from.

Have you got your idea? You might have a different idea.

You might want a song from someone or somewhere else.

So here are my drawings to help you.

Mermaid, fairy, harp.

I would like you to pause the video now, and draw another quick simple picture of where you're going to get your song from.

Do that now.

Brilliant job.

So now you've got your horn or your tooth and your song.

Now we eat some snots, don't we? Snots, where are we going to get our snot from? Instead of a giant, you might like to choose one of these ideas.

A tree troll, a witch or a panda.

Or you might have a different idea of your own.

So have a look at those pictures to help you think now of a creature that you're going to get your snot from.

Which one of those do you like? Here are my drawings to help you with yours.

So, tree troll, witch, panda or you might have a different idea.

Pause the video now and draw a quick simple picture.

Fantastic, so now you've got your horn, your tooth, your song and your snot, Now, the last thing that we are going to choose is something to put it in.

So instead of eight gold buckets, here are some options.

You might like to put everything in the Queen's bath tub.

You might like to put them in a Pirate's treasure chest or you might want to put them in an old lady's handbag.

Or you might have a different idea for something that you could put all the things you needed.

So pause the video now and draw a quick, simple picture to show what you need to put all of your things in for your set of instructions.

Pause the video and do that.

Amazing job.

So, now you have got your list of everything you need to make either your new magic hat your magic shoes, or your magic cloak.

Now we're going to box up those ideas.

I'm going to show you how.

Okay, so let's box up our new recycled set of instructions with our new ideas.

Now, the reason that we box up, is to help us organise our ideas so that we have a clear plan or writing.

If you can download and print your boxing upgrade.

If not, then have a go at drawing one just like mine.

So you will need one, two, three columns across your page, and then one, two, three, four boxes down your page.

And try and use a ruler to keep it neat and clear so you can see what you're doing.

The first thing that we need to do is say what the instructions tell us.

So my set of instructions tells you how to make magic shoes.

Yours might do that too, or your set of new instructions might tell you how to make a different type of magic hat or a magic cloak.

So draw a quick picture at the top to remind you what your set of instructions are for.

So do that quickly now.

Brilliant job.

Now then let's start with our introduction box.

A set of instructions always starts with an introduction, doesn't it? Telling people what they're going to do and what it's for.

So, I've drawn my magic shoes, this set of instructions tells you how to make magic shoes.

And what are they for, Well, they are to take you wherever you want to go.

So, I've drawn a picture of a tropical island here that's hot and sunny.

That's where I'm thinking that I would like to go right now.

So, I would like you to pause the video and draw two pictures in your introduction box to show what your instructions tell you how to make, and what they are for.

So remember the magic shoes take you wherever you want to go and magic cloak makes you invisible.

And the magic hat gives you whatever you want.

Pause the video and draw your pictures now.

Fantastic job, you're back.

Now, we're on to our next box which is what you need.

So there's the buckets with the arrows going in.

That means what you need.

Now, these are the things that I need to make my magic shoes.

I need the horn of a faun.

I also need the tooth of a shark, notice how I'm drawing arrows to organise my ideas in order.

I also need the song of a fairy.

I need the snot of a tree troll.

Here's my tree troll.

Big nose and the snot dripping out of it, there it is.

And, I am going to mix it all together in the Queen's bath.

Now she doesn't have to be in it, but I'm going to draw a picture of her to remind me that it belongs to the Queen.

So, there are all the things that I need to make mine magic shoes.

I would like you to pause the video now and in that box draw quick and simple pictures pointed with arrows to show the things that you need to make your magic shoes, your magic cloak or your magic hat.

Pause the video and do that Fantastic job.

Now we're ready to move on to our next box which is what you do.

So, the first thing that you do to make my magic shoes is to at the horn of the faun and the tooth of the shark into the Queen's bath.

That's the first thing that you need to do for my set of instructions.

The next thing that you need to do, is to mix it all together with the snot of a tree troll.

And finally sing the song of a fairy.

So three things that you need to do to make magic shoes in my set of instructions.

I would like you now to draw your pictures to show what you need to do to make either your magic shoes, your magic hat, or your magic cloak.

You can number them too like I've done if you would like to.

So pause the video now and draw your pictures for that box.

Excellent job.

And we are ready to move on to our final box which is the ending.

So, let me just move this up to show you clearly.

So the ending box is going to be a reminder about what these magic shoes or the magic hats or the magic cloak is for what it can do for you.

Now, the first thing we need to do is say that once we've done all of these things, it's going to appear.

So I'm going to draw my magic shoes to show that once I followed my set of instructions, they will appear on my feet.

There they are.

So I followed all the instructions and today my magic shoes have appeared, and my reminder to tell you why they're so great is that when you put them on, you will look fantastic and you will feel on top of the world.

You will feel like you can do anything and be anything that you want.

There we go.

So, those are my pictures for my last section.

I would like you to pause the video and draw yours.

Remember, yours might be magic shoes, that's a pair, or it might be a magic hat or a magic cloak.

So, join your final pictures for your section, pause the video now and do that.

So now you've boxed up your new set of instructions with pictures.

I would like you to add some key words to remind you what you're going to say in each section of your set of instructions.

So, let's have a look at mine.

Have a look on the screen and look at the notes column where I've written the words.

Now, for the introduction, I have written the words magic shoes to say what this set instructions is for.

I would like you to do the same thing there.

So you're going to write either magic shoes, magic hat or magic cloak.

Now let's look at the next box, what you need.

Now, you will see that I have written the words for my new ideas there, faun, shark, fairy, tree troll, bathtub.

Those are all words for my new ideas.

So I would like you to do the same and write the words for your new ideas in that box.

And then let's look at the third box, what to do.

Now, the words that I have written there are all imperative verbs that I'm going to use.

We did imperative verbs, didn't we? In lesson four.

So I would like you to choose three imperative verbs that you are going to use to tell people what to do to make your magic shoes, magic hat or magic cloak.

So I've used the verbs add, mix, sing.

So let's move on to our final box and I have written four words.

Shoes, feet, look and feel.

So I've said what is going to appear where, on my feet and look because it's going to make me look great and feel, it's going to make me feel great.

To feel like I'm on top of the world.

So, I would like you to pause the video now and to write some key words in each box of your boxing upgrades.

Pause the video and do that.

Fantastic job.

Now, you've got your finished boxing upgrade.

You can use it to help you tell your new set of instructions.

So have a listen now to me tell my new set of instructions using my boxing upgrade on this screen to help me and then it's going to be your turn.

So mine might start something like this.

I'm going to get into role again.

Hello, everyone.

My name is the Shoemaker and I just love making shoes.

I make all sorts of shoes.

Big shoes and small shoes, bright shoes and sparkly shoes, pink shoes and black shoes, all sorts of shoes.

But, the very best shoes to make are magic shoes.

When you put them on your feet, magic shoes take you wherever you want to go.

But I knew a person in the world who knows how to make them so don't tell anyone it's a secret.

But today I'm going to tell you how to make magic shoes.

This is what you need.

You will need the horn of a faun, the tooth of a shark, the song of a fairy, the snot of a tree troll and a Queen's bathtub.

This is what you do.

First, add the horn of the faun, and the tooth of the shark into the Queen's bathtub.

Then, mix it all together with the snot of a tree troll.

Finally, sing the song of a fairy.

Then the magic shoes will appear on your feet.

When you put them on, they will make you look amazing and you will feel on top of the world.

You will feel fantastic because you can go wherever you want in the whole world.

And that is how to make magic shoes.

And that's was me telling my new set of instructions using my boxing upgrade.

So I'd like you now to pause the video and have it go at telling yours.

So I have one final task for you to do today, and hopefully it's one that you're really going to enjoy.

And that is to draw a picture of your magic hat, your magic shoes, or your magic cloak and add some labels to describe them.

So you can have a look at my picture of my magic shoes on the screen to give you an idea.

Pause the video now and do that.

Amazing job, you have just worked so incredibly hard today, on your boxing up of your new recycled set of instructions.

Now, I would absolutely love to see your work.

So if you would like to please ask your parents or carer to share your work on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, tagging @OakNational, @KateEBarron and @LearnwithOak.

I would love to see your new magic hats, your magic shoes or your magic cloak that you have created for your new set of instructions.

So I will see you in lesson seven.

Until then, it's goodbye from me and have a lovely rest of your day.

Bye.
