Hi there everyone.

It's so nice to see you.

How are you doing today? Right I'm glad to hear.

So I hear you're feeling excited for today's lesson.

This is the final lesson of our unit all about space.

That means that you should have access.

You should have watched the lesson videos for lessons One, two, three, four, and five, to be really ready for this final lesson.

Okay let's get started.

So, in today's lesson we are going to answer this key question, what kind of scientists study space? And you are learning with me, Miss Emms. So here is our lesson agenda.

We're going to start off by looking at some star words, so some key important words that we need to understand, to complete today's learning.

Then we're going to have a look at some recap questions.

So questions that make us think hard about the learning we've already done.

And then we're going to move on to today's new learning.

So astronauts and find different jobs related to space.

And at the end of the lesson, you will complete an end of lesson quiz, to see what you've been able to remember from this lesson.

You're going to need three things in this lesson.

First things first, some paper, you can use some plain paper or lined paper, and it can be a loose piece of paper or some paper from an exercise book.

You'll need a pencil and you will need your brain.

Your brain needs to be switched on and ready to go.

Give us a little rub like this.

Amazing you are ready.

Okay pause the video now, if you need to go and get these three things off you go, pause now.

Right let's get started.

Okay time to look at our star words and we have three important star words today.

Are you ready to repeat my, stars? The first star word is a scientist.

Your turn, scientist.

We spent lots of time thinking about what a scientist is.

And today we're going to think about how astronauts, are a kind of scientist, Okay? Astronauts are scientists who study space, who go into space, Okay? So they are a type of scientist that goes into space.

And our last star word is job.

You may have heard of lots of different jobs.

Today we're going to spend some time thinking about jobs that are related, that are to do with space.

So a quick recap question, why was Helen Sharman important? why was Helen Sharman important? Can you remember who she was and why she was important? Can you tell your screen? She was important because, go tell your screen.

She was important because she was the first British astronaut in space.

She was the first British astronaut in space.

And what was the name of the first satellite that was sent into space? Can you remember? It was called, Sputnik.

Amazing well done.

So lets have a think now about astronauts.

It's a very special job to be an astronaut.

And an astronaut is a type of scientist that goes into space to find out more about space.

Astronauts many different men and women from many different countries have become astronauts.

You don't have to be from a certain country, or from a certain part of the world.

You don't have to be a man.

You don't have to be a woman.

Many different men and women from all over the world, have become astronauts.

An astronaut is a scientist who is trained to go into space.

So a quick recap question, can you pause the video to complete this task? I want you to tell your screen, what is an astronaut? An astronaut is, pause and tell your screen.

Did you get it? An astronaut is, a scientists trained to go into space.

Being an astronaut, becoming an astronaut is by no means easy.

As with lots of jobs, it's very difficult and challenging to become an astronaut.

And when you are an astronaut, it is a very fulfilling job, but it's not easy.

And there were lots of things that astronauts need to do before they become an astronaut.

So we are going to have a look at the steps that you would need to take and the steps that astronauts have taken, in order to become astronauts.

The first step is that and this is a really important one.

You've got to really want to become an astronaut.

As it takes many years of studying and work even before you complete your training.

So as with lots of jobs, you really need to have a desire to want to become an astronaut, because it's lots of work.

And it takes a long, long time.

Step two is that you must endeavour to attend a university to study engineering, medicine or one of the sciences.

And many astronauts also learned to be pilots in their country's air force.

You have to go to university to study engineering, medicine or one of the sciences.

And some, if not many astronauts are also in their country's air force.

Astronauts come from many different countries all over the world, and they may share missions with astronauts from the USA, Russia, and Japan.

That means they need to be able to speak two languages.

How many languages? Two, they need to speak English and Russian.

They need to speak English and Russian so that they can all talk to one another.

Step four is you must be healthy, since astronaut training and spaceflights can be very tiring! They can be very? So you have to be fit and healthy, to be able to be an astronaut.

And finally, step five, on a spacecraft, astronauts live and work in very, in a very small space, like here, you can see that this space is not a large space.

It's a very small space.

And this means that you have to be good at getting on with other people who need to be friendly and able to work in a close situation with other people.

Let's recap those steps quickly.

So, step one you need to really want to become an astronaut because it's lots of work.

Step two, you need to go to university to study engineering, medicine or one of the sciences.

And you might also want to join your country's air force.

Step three, you need to speak English and Russian.

So you can talk to other astronauts.

Step four, you need to be healthy and strong and fit because it's a tiring job.

And step five, you need to be good at getting on with people because you need to live and work in a small space when you are an astronaut.

So it's time for a task now, can you remember the five steps that you need to take to become an astronaut? I want you to write them down and you're going to use the images and the key words to help you.

So you've got the keywords here want, and the image, study, languages, healthy and friendly.

But those are just five important words.

They, those don't tell me the full steps that you need to take to become an astronaut.

So using those, can you write down the five steps and you can number them if you want to.

pause the video and have a go at doing that now.

Wait, well done everyone.

let's recap, and you can tick or fix your answers.

So step one was you need to you might've written not all of this, but something like you need to want to become an astronaut because it takes a long time and lots of work.

Step two, you must go to university and you might have written to study engineering medicine or one of the sciences.

And you may have remembered to include the fact about being pilots in their country's air force.

Step three for languages were English and Russian, so that you can communicate with other astronauts, talks of astronauts.

Step four was being the healthy or fit, or strong because training and spaceflights are tiring, or you might've just said, because being an astronaut is a tiring job.

And step five, you need to be able to be friendly and get on with people because you have to work and live in a small environment.

And again, you probably didn't say exactly that, but something that explained that idea.

okay, let's move on.

Now we're going to have a think about some different jobs that there are, that are related to space.

So you may think, you may think that being an astronaut is the only job that you can have that's related to space, but that's not true.

There are a lot of different jobs that people have, that are to do with, and are related to space.

Okay and today we're going to have a think about just three.

There are many more, but I've chosen three ones that I think are really interesting.

The first is a spacesuit designer.

The first is a? A spacesuit designer is a highly trained engineer.

Usually, they think about the mission taking place and they design their suits accordingly.

So they design the spacesuits according to the type of mission that's going to happen.

Most importantly, they've got to make sure the astronauts are kept alive and comfortable.

So it's a very difficult and specific job to design a spacesuit like this.

And it requires a spacesuit designer, highly trained engineer.

The next is an educator astronaut.

Can you imagine your teacher floating around in zero gravity? Goodness me that's a funny thought.

The aim of these unique astronauts is to get children passionate about jobs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

So they teach lessons from space.

So an educator astronaut teaches children lessons from space, how cool is that? And the third job is if you are involved in space medicine.

Doctors and medical researchers work very hard to make sure that astronauts are kept safe and healthy during their long trips into space.

So we had three jobs, spacesuit designer, educator astronaut, and if you're involved in space medicine.

I want from those three, can you remember the names of the three different space jobs that we've looked at? Can you remember the names of the three different space jobs? pause and tell your screen if you can.

Did you get them all? We had the spacesuit designer, the educator astronaut and space medicine.

Well done everybody.

If you could pick a job in space, what would it be and why? So from those three, don't ask the question yet.

I wonder which one you would choose.

I want you to write down.

If I could work in space, I would want to be a, and you're either going to write spacesuit designer, educator astronaut, or space medicine.

So I would be involved in space medicine, or I would work in space medicine.

And then I would like you after you've written that sentence to draw a picture of yourself doing that job.

Think about what you would look like, think about what you would need, and think about how you would draw yourself working in that role.

Pause the video and complete that task now.

Amazing well done.

And after this video, it will be time for you to complete your end of lesson quiz.

You've worked so hard today and you've worked so hard in all of these science lessons in this unit, and you deserve to feel really proud of yourself.

I know that I feel really proud of you.
