Description

In this unit, pupils begin their study of the USA by learning about the 'boom years' of the 1920s. They examine the economic boom itself, alongside social issues concerning racial tension, the Red Scare, and women's position in society.

This unit uses and builds on pupils' knowledge of other Western democracies that they developed in year 9 units about 19th and 20th century Britain. It also builds on pupils' knowledge and understanding of the way Enlightenment ideas influenced the founding of the USA and of the influence of Russian Communism. This unit prepares pupils for the next unit where they learn about the impact of the Great Depression on America.
