Keywords
Equality - the right of everyone to receive the same treatment
Equal opportunities - allowing all people access to the same opportunities, regardless of their disability, religion, age, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation
Discrimination - treating people unfairly or differently because of things like their race, gender, or where they come from, instead of treating everyone equally
Common misconception
Equality means treating everyone the same, so that’s the fairest thing to do.
Treating everyone the same is not always fair. Equality gives the same to all, but equity gives people what they need to have the same chance and opportunities. Equality is about meeting different needs, not pretending everyone is the same.
