Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Messages can be communicated in different ways.
  2. Using text to communicate a message provides detail but can reduce how quickly the message can be understood.
  3. Using images to communicate a message can improve the speed of understanding but can lose the detail of a message.
  4. Text and images together can communicate a message quickly but can take up space or have too much detail.

Keywords

  • Message - communication provided to someone

  • Text - written words used to pass on a message

  • Images - pictures that pass on a message

Common misconception

It is important that messages have as much information on them as possible.

More information isn’t always better in a message. Too much detail can overwhelm the reader and make the key points unclear. Effective messages are clear, concise and provide only the necessary information for the intended audience.
