Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Deepfakes are synthetic media created using artificial intelligence to manipulate or generate visual and audio content.
  2. Deepfakes can be used for both positive and negative purposes.
  3. Deepfake technology can manipulate a person’s face, voice, or actions in a way that looks authentic.

Keywords

  • Misinformation - false or inaccurate information

  • Manipulate - to trick, deceive, or influence people to change their belief about something

  • Deepfake - a fake video, picture, or sound made with AI technology that looks or sounds real, but isn’t

Common misconception

Deepfakes are easy to spot because they always look fake or glitchy

Many deepfakes today are highly realistic and difficult to detect, especially when viewed quickly or shared on social media. As technology improves, deepfakes can mimic real people’s voices and faces with convincing detail.
