Lesson details

Learning outcome

I can gather and analyse user feedback to inform design developments.

Key learning points

  1. Designers share ideas with sketches.
  2. Designers share ideas to gather feedback which influence design developments and decisions.
  3. Designers use user feedback to inform and support design iteration.

Keywords

  • User feedback - information provided by users about their opinions and insights into design ideas

  • Iterative - refining and improving

  • Design development - the process of refining and evolving design ideas through feedback testing, and iteration

Common misconception

User feedback is just opinions, it’s not useful when developing designs.

Feedback is largely based on opinions. However, it provides real world insight into how people interact see, understand and would use a design.

Teacher tip

Having the pupils generate questions for user feedback and know how they will record it during lesson time and then setting the task of gathering the feedback for homework can work well. Pupils can appoach family and friends for feedback.

Equipment

Sketching and ideas resources, sticky notes, recording device, feedback information for development tasks.
