Thinking from different perspectives in 'The Three Little Pigs'

      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can think from a character’s perspective to understand their feelings and actions.

      Key learning points

      1. Using 'I', 'me', 'my', 'we' or 'us' is a way of speaking in the first person.
      2. One way of inferring a character's feelings is looking at their expressions in an illustration.
      3. Another way of inferring a character's feelings is reading about how they move, what they do and what they say.
      4. Discussing the feelings of others helps to generate powerful adjectives to describe an emotion or event.
      5. Considering an event in the story from a character's point of view helps us to understand the plot of the story better.

      Keywords

      • Perspective - a point of view

      • Adjective - adds detail to a noun

      • Emotion - a feeling or mood

      • First person - the 'I/we' perspective

      • Plot - what happens in a story

      Common misconception

Pupils may struggle to generate their own vocabulary or understand the vocabulary given to them.

In LC2, look at the children's expression when they are freeze framing. Then, put the description into a sentence e.g. 'You look terrified.'. The children mirror the facial expression and tone from you and then repeat the sentence.

      Teacher tip

As you are generating the vocabulary, create a class word wall or word bank so that children have access to these words in future learning.
