This unit uses and builds on learning from the Year 5 grammar unit 'Key grammar terminology, including determiners and fronted adverbials', where all four determiners were taught and fronted adverbial single words, phrases and clauses were reviewed in detail. New learning in this unit includes learning that adverbs can describe verbs, denote time frames and describe adjectives. This unit prepares pupils for writing for a range of purposes, including across a range of fiction genres and in analytical writing, because it broadens pupils' skills for writing cohesively for any writing purpose.
