Key learning points
- The SSC [s] sounds like 'z' in English. It is a 'hard' sound when it is between two vowels, including in a liaison.
- It is 'soft' when at the beginning of a word/syllable, before/after a consonant and where there is a double [ss].
- We use 'mon' to mean 'my' for masculine nouns and 'ma' for feminine nouns: 'mon chien' (my dog), 'ma sœur' (my sister).
- We also use 'mon' (my) or 'ton' (your) for nouns beginning with a vowel or a silent 'h': 'mon amie' (my female friend).
- For plural nouns, use 'mes' for 'my' and 'tes' for 'your': 'mes parents' (my parents) 'tes amis' (your friends).

Mes - possessive pronoun 'my' for plural nouns
Tes - possessive pronoun 'your' for plural nouns
