Key learning points

  1. Adjectives ending in -ien become -ienne in the feminine form: canadien-canadienne. The 'e' in -ienne sounds like [è/ê].
  2. 'Soutenir' (to support) and 'appartenir à' (to belong to) follow the same verb pattern as 'venir'. Je soutiens ...
  3. The verb 'croire' (to believe) follows the same pattern as 'boire' in its singular form. Je crois, tu crois etc.
  4. Nationality adjectives can become nouns when used with an article: française - la Française.
  5. There is no article 'un/une' after 'être' when using nouns to describe identity. Il est Anglais: He is an Englishman.
