Vocabulary and transcripts for this lessons

      Key learning points

      1. Use 'me' and 'te' as reflexive pronouns in French. Shorten them to m'/t' before a vowel/silent 'h'.
      2. Some verbs can mean different things when they’re used reflexively and can be translated differently in English.

      Keywords

      • Reflexive pronoun - used to indicate doing something to yourself, words like ‘myself’ and ‘yourself’

      Common misconception

Reflexive verbs can always be translated literally into English.

There are sometimes more natural ways to translate reflexive verbs into English. For example, 'Je me prépare' is 'I prepare myself', but 'I get ready' sounds more natural.

      Teacher tip

If pupils are using the worksheet, they can sit back to back for the B2 speaking task. The written task B3 could be less prescriptive and more independent if you want to challenge students by just giving the first instruction and guidance to use a number of reflexive verbs.
