Key learning points
- To form the 2-verb future, use part of the verb 'aller' in the present tense plus the infinitive.
- Conjugate the 1-verb future of -er verbs by adding the endings -ai, -as, -a, -ons, -ez, -ont to the infinitive.
- The future stems for ‘aller’, ‘avoir’, ‘être’ and ‘faire’ are: ir-, aur-, ser- and fer-.
- Some verbs require 'à' or 'de' before an infinitive, e.g. 'arriver à', 'éviter de'.

Common misconception
All verbs use their infinitive to form the stem in the future tense.
There are key irregular verb stems to learn for the future tense. Confident use of these verbs will add greatly to overall accuracy and help students to express themselves confidently in the future tense.
