Key learning points
- The Lake District is a region of mountains and lakes in the north west of England and most of it is a National Park.
- The Park has all the land in England above 910 metres including the highest mountain in England, Scafell Pike.
- Wast Water, the deepest lake in England, and Windermere, the longest lake in England, are found here.

Common misconception
Children may think the Lake District has the highest mountains and longest/deepest lakes in the UK.
Point out that although Scafell Pike is the tallest mountain in England, it is not as tall as Ben Nevis (tallest in the UK). Similarly, although Windermere is over 10 miles long it is not longer than many Scottish lochs.
