Key learning points
- The difference in sound between [a] and [ä].
- In the present tense, the verb ending changes depending on who is doing the action.
- Some present tense verb stems change their vowel in the 'du, er and sie' forms, e.g., 'treffen' becomes 'du triffst'.
- 'Welch-' means which and is commonly used in questions. It agrees with the noun it is linked to like other adjectives.
- 'Gern' means 'gladly' and is used to express liking for different actions, e.g.' 'Ich spiele gern Fußball'.
Keywords

Simple present - describes habitual events in the present: 'I do'
Welch- - question word 'which'
Common misconception

Some verbs need a change to the vowel in the stem in addition to the change to the -en ending, but only for 'du', 'er' and 'sie' (she).
