Key learning points
- The prepositions hinter, neben, unter, über, vor, zwischen and in are used with the accusative when there is movement.

- 'Vor' can mean 'before', 'in front of' or 'ago'.
- Use da-compounds for inanimate nouns already mentioned. Use direct or indirect object pronouns for animate nouns.

Common misconception
All prepositions are followed by either the accusative or the dative.
The prepositions ‘hinter’, ‘neben’, ‘unter’, ‘über’, ‘vor’, ‘zwischen’ and ‘in’ are used with the accusative case when there is movement but the dative case when there is no movement.
