Dribbling and sending with hands

Lesson details

Learning outcome

I can dribble the ball and pass to my partner with control

Key learning points

  1. Move: looking up while dribbling the ball, enables us to look for space and avoid defenders.
  2. Move: passing the ball using our hands and pushing the ball towards our teammate, helps keep possession of the ball.
  3. Think: dribbling and passing are both ways of keeping the ball away from a defender, which helps us to keep possession.
  4. Feel: stopping to pass the ball when others tag you in a game shows honesty.
  5. Connect: playing by the rules of the game demonstrates fairness.

Keywords

  • Dribbling - using our hands or feet to move with the ball keeping it under control

  • Pass - giving the ball from one player to another

  • Possession - the team in control of the ball

Common misconception

Pupils throw the ball focusing on throwing it hard and high, instead of passing with accuracy.

Ensure pupils understand that a pass requires control and accuracy.

Teacher tip

Highlight that passing is a two-part action and that receiving the pass is important too. Ensure pupils pupils make eye contact with their teammate when passing and receiving.
