      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can pass a ball accurately towards a target.

      Key learning points

      1. Move: passing the ball using the inside of the foot increases accuracy.
      2. Move: placing our non kicking foot beside the ball whilst passing, will improve the accuracy of the pass.
      3. Think: passing with accuracy requires aiming at the target and concentrating on our technique.
      4. Connect: encouraging others and taking turns in the game promotes fairness.
      5. Feel: trying to score as many points as possible and counting the score accurately shows honesty.

      Keywords

      • Pass - transferring the ball from one player to another

      • Aiming - the ability to use our bodies to direct an object towards a target

      • Accuracy - the ability to control where we kick an object

      Common misconception

Pupils believe that they need to kick the ball as hard as possible to make a good pass, leading to a loss of control.

Emphasise the importance of accuracy over power and that pupils need to be able to kick the ball where they want it to go first.

      Teacher tip

When passing the ball to hit a target, reward pupils for connecting with the target, even if it does not fall over. This should encourage pupils to pass with accuracy and not worry about the power of their pass.
