Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: performing a Line Dance motif requires us to perform actions in a set order with changes in direction.
  2. Move: performing actions at the same time, in unison, requires careful timing and control.
  3. Think: creating a motif requires thinking about a range of ideas before selecting the best ones to perform.
  4. Feel: remembering actions in a set order involves resilience to keep trying.
  5. Connect: working in unison with others requires trust to perform with accurate timings.

Keywords

  • Motif - a pattern of movements that can be repeated, changed or developed

  • Direction - where we face or travel

  • Unison - performing the same action at the same time

Common misconception

Line dancing must use the feet.

Whilst it is typically performed with an emphasis on footwork, this can easily be adapted to use the arms or any other body part. The emphasis is on the use of a repeating pattern, with a change of direction through 90'.
