Low movements
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can move and balance in a variety of low ways.
Key learning points
- Move: moving low requires us to move on our tummies, backs, bottoms, and hands and feet silently with control.
- Move: balancing low requires being still, pointing fingers and toes, and staying low in relation to the surface.
- Think: knowing different ways to move and balance in low ways enables us to perform a range of ideas.
- Feel: self-belief enables us to try our ideas for moving and balancing low down.
- Connect: supporting others and sharing ideas shows empathy.
Keywords
Low - moving close to the ground or surface
Movement - the process of moving from one place to another
Balance - maintaining a desired shape in a stationary position
Common misconception
Pupils jump up with their whole body for bunny jumps. Pupils hold on to each other to support them. Pupils do not hold balances for long enough.
Model correct bunny jumps with hands moving first, then feet moving to hands, and repeat. Provide examples of words and advice pupils can use to support each other. Encourage pupils to hold balances for at least 3 seconds.
Teacher tip
When pupils work in pairs, allow some groups of 3, so no one is left out. Allow pupils to work with friends, unless this causes problems. Make a display poster to show the creatures talked about in the lesson.
