Completion of pathways sequences and performance
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can practise, evaluate, improve and perform my pathways sequence on apparatus.
Key learning points
- Move: performing a sequence of quality movements and balances requires confidence, control and flow.
- Think: practising and improving our sequences shows decision making and evaluation.
- Connect: empathy enables us to communicate our feedback to others and carefully suggest ways to improve their sequences.
- Feel: believing in ourselves shows courage and will enable us to make improvements to our overall performance.
Keywords
Performance - the way you present your routine in front of an audience; how confident you are and how smooth your movements are
Evaluate - judging the quality of something you have done or seen
Confidence - the belief that you can perform well and succeed
Common misconception
Some pupils will not want to perform to a large audience.
Some pupils practise performing for a small group, and if they still feel they can't perform for a larger audience, they don't have to.
Teacher tip
If you have prepared sequences before this lesson, set the apparatus up exactly the same so pupils can repeat and improve their sequences. Play music throughout the performances. This creates a good atmosphere and ensures anxious pupils don't feel the spotlight is on them because it is too quiet.

We use learning cycles to break down learning into key concepts or ideas linked to the learning outcome. Each learning cycle features explanations with checks for understanding and practice tasks with feedback. All of this is found in our slide decks, ready for you to download and edit. The practice tasks are also available as printable worksheets and some lessons have additional materials with extra material you might need for teaching the lesson.
The assessment exit quiz will test your pupils' understanding of the key learning points.
Our video is a tool for planning, showing how other teachers might teach the lesson, offering helpful tips, modelled explanations and inspiration for your own delivery in the classroom.
