      Completion of sequences and performance

      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can perform, evaluate and improve my sequence on the apparatus.

      Key learning points

      1. Move: performing a quality sequence of movements and balances requires flow, control and pointed fingers and toes.
      2. Think: observing others and making suggestions as to how to improve a sequence demonstrates evaluation and imagination.
      3. Connect: considering the feelings of others when helping them develop and improve their performance shows empathy.
      4. Feel: striving to improve your performance and believing in yourself shows courage and will lead to success.

      Keywords

      • Performance - the way you present your sequence in front of an audience, how confident you are, and how smooth your actions are

      • Evaluate - judging the quality of something you have done or seen

      • Success - when you consistently practise and improve your performance

      Common misconception

Success means performing actions perfectly. Pupils land a jump, and their hands touch the floor.

Success refers to progress relative to a starting point. Any improvements to actions should be viewed as successful. Remind pupils to land with straight backs (not rounded) to help them 'land and stand' when they land a jump.

      Teacher tip

Set the apparatus up the same as the last lesson so pupils can perform the sequences they have already practiced. Remind pupils that they do not jump from wall bars or climbing frames, only flat surfaces.

      Equipment

15+ floor markers, mats, benches, gymnastic tables, climbing frames or wall bars
