Hopping & skipping in games
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can apply my hopping and skipping skills in a variety of games and challenges.
Key learning points
- Move: effective performance in the game requires using the correct technique for hopping and skipping.
- Think: knowing when and how to use the correct technique for both hopping and skipping helps our performance in games.
- Feel: successful game play is supported by showing self belief and trying our hardest throughout.
- Connect: playing by the rules enables the game to flow and our team to be successful.
Keywords
Rules - inform what we are allowed and what we are not allowed to do in a game or challenge
Team - a group of people who work together to achieve a common goal
Challenge - a way of testing our ability or skill
Common misconception
Pupils run instead of hopping or skipping. Pupils get upset if points are being lost in games (beanbags are taken by the Zookeepers).
Remind pupils that running is a rule break and celebrate pupils who are hopping/skipping not running.
Teacher tip
Play the games without hopping or skipping first, so that pupils grasp the concept of the game before applying their hopping and skipping skills.

The practice tasks are also available as printable worksheets and some lessons have additional materials with extra material you might need for teaching the lesson.
The assessment exit quiz will test your pupils' understanding of the key learning points.
